Woodhall was utterly brilliant when he beat Silvio Branco for the European middleweight title. Hardly ever gets mentioned, but it was an absolute masterclass from Woodhall

Very true, if not for the elbow trouble, King keeping him away from K.Holmes for 18 months and Yanks knocking on his hotel room door at 4am among many other dishonest tactics etc he would take some beating at his natural weight (middle) with that height, reach, tight defence, jab, timing, amateur exp, close fighter-trainer r/ship & trust, tactical nouse, and the fact he could actually straighten his right arm.

2 hours into the Richie Woodhall pod and it's another cracker

I can hardly believe it when Richie was saying he had an elbow operation within 2 weeks of the Keith Holmes fight How the 'eff did he still deliver that performance against a really tricky and awkward champion after an elbow operation? I'd expect to be out for months. These world class boxer are just a different breed.

He really opened up about that fight. I don't know if it is Woddhall's accent or the fact it cut him to the quick so much, but I had to laugh at the way poor Richie bemoaned his rotten luck...not in a spiteful way, but when he started muttering about have 'one f#ck1ng meal a day' it just sounds so comical. I remember when Holmes beat him I was absolutely gutted for Richie

Holmes was an effective, world class boxer IMO but I also can't help but wonder what might have happened with Woodhall's chances had he just been able to compete on equal terms. Richie was mightily unlucky and I can only marvel at the effort he put in despite everything going against him

Richie said he's never watched the Holmes fight and never will. He's convinced he would have beaten him without the injury, but also graciously says he was beaten by the better man on the night.

The weight making stories are horrendous, almost hard to believe and I forgot or didn't know about the problems he had with his promoter FW.
