The ref in Madrimov fight

Post by armageto »

He might have been one of the worst refs I've ever seen. Missing that knockout, not even knockdown, a knockout. Unsure what the rounds were. Not knowing if the round was over or not when the fight restarted. Just terrible, and fox boxing, that says a lot.

Even if he didn't see the punch, surely he heard it?

He said he shouldered him down.
.
Other than the ref this was a great fight.
A lot of talk about the Madrimov footwork. His footwork is slick but didn't stop him from getting hit clean and a lot by an opponent who just isn't very good. Before that punch Madrimov was getting increasingly reckless was clearly gassed, dazed and appeared to be on the verge of quitting, either in the middle of a round or on his stool. After clinches, he turned his back, walking away from his opponent and looked to his corner several times.
He finally landed a wild shot that flattened Walker, the ref botched the call but Madrimov was rejuvenated by it and the five minute break.

wow. i was interested to see Madrimov right, but didnt catch it. checked the result and was a little suprised it went the distance, not vry seeing as its a bit of a step up, but geezes thats definatly a knockout. terrible reffing, almost worth changing the official result. thankkkk fornicate i didnt put the madrimov by knockout bet i was thinking off.

F@cking terrible reffing, it was clearly a punch and Madrimov stumbled into his chest not his chin. Very dangerous call, basically a dude was KTFO, then let out and pounded on and dropped and wobbly for another 3 rounds.

Walker was a good step up opponent and a capable boxer for sure, though it's obvious in multiple fghts now that Madi is KO hunting and loading up on single shots too much. He clearly has serious power but that will only get him so far. At this rate he will be a level or 2 above Khytrov but this is defo no next GGG or anything like that

There's talent there but Madrimov needs to be developed. They need to reconsider their rush to a title.

Chris Mannix:

“Brutal referee call. Walker is basically out cold. Referee says it wasn’t a knockdown."

“Eric Walker was brave, took an enormous amount of punishment. But he should have been knocked out in the ninth round and then the referee and his corner let him take an absolute beating over the last three. That’s how guys get hurt."

“I can’t get past what I saw in Walker-Madrimov. Boxing was rocked by several in-ring deaths in 2019. A referee let a fight continue after a fighter, Eric Walker, was knocked out. Walker’s corner let it continue. Then he took a brutal beating. We learn nothing. Nothing.”

If I'm correct, he was looking right at it. I'm lost how this fuckery continues to happen. Over, and over, and over, and.......

I wonder if initially he thought Walker went down because Madrimov stumbled into him, but then saw that Walker obviously got laid out, and so then instead of admitting he was wrong, which a lotta people find embarassing and wont do, he just switched his story to something else that would explain why Walker was out

The shoulder wasnt even near the chin, it was in the chest, I can't fathom how he really coulda thought it was a shoulder ko

He was on the wrong side to see the head move back, he also saw Madrimov's glove touch down. It was a bad call but more surprising, as you said, that he refused to acknowledge the knockout even when it was blindingly obvious that he'd made a mistake.

It was piss poor refereeing, no doubt about that.

The ref calling time out to give Walker a chance to recover when he clearly needed medical attention was ludicrous.
Allowing him to continue to fight afterwards was borderline criminal.

On a less important note, it also robbed Madrimov of a hugely impressive highlight reel KO.
