I think it was Frank Fletcher who was down to face Kaylor originally. He features on the poster for the fight. Maybe there was more than the one change of opponent for Kaylor though.

You are absolutely right. Frank "The Animal" was the original opponent for Kaylor, then "Hard Rock" Green and finally that man Drayton.
Kaylor was destined for a rough night.

And as proved Drayton was proof of fitness over style, just to tough and wild. I always liked Drayton and glad to see he's doing well for himself after boxing.

He became a police officer. Incidentally, Bobby "Boogaloo" Watts was in Buster's corner when he stopped Kaylor in 1984 - the same Watts stopped by Kaylor a year earlier. If you like a spot of 'afters', check out Watts's reaction when he gets stopped. It's on youtube.

Yeah I don’t think Duff and co realised what a world-class puncher Drayton was - when he coldcocked Jimmy they must’ve just assumed Jimmy’s chin wasn’t that great, or he just got caught cold.
Yeah think Mark would’ve beaten the shop worn Frank the animal Fletcher, who didn’t have a big punch on him.

And having both his main men lose on the same night ( Bruno as well ) caused a crestfallen Terry Lawless to retire for about a week, until Frank talked him out of it

i saw the first Cable v nicky Wilshere(?) fight on the Bruno v Ledoux undercard at wembley.
those were the days when bills were proper value for money
Cable was dropped twice but took the decision in a lovely scrap....the days of nobbins

I drove past that World of leather showroom on the A20 roundabout a thousand times and never knew a boxing outfit was based there ! Suppose it made sense with the Yorkshire Grey being only 2 minutes away to stage boxing shows.

Thank God Jimmy got paid for his European title triumph...eventually. I can only imagine how he must have felt when his cheque bounced after going through hell & high water to win the title in France.

An Officer of Veteran Affairs which is not the same as a Police Officer aka Warranted Official. Its, a Civilian role.

I went to school and was in the same class as Jimmy everyone!! Say's what a gentleman he was a bully because I was British Judo champion Jimmy made it his life to pick on me I never lost to him but I never won!!
So when people say what a lovely bloke he was asking the people who grew up with him.
Rest in peace Jimmy and put them demons to sleep.
