And Bob Arum signed Terence Crawford to a lengthy contract, guaranteeing Bud a lofty $3m guarantee per bout (regardless as to whomever he faces, despite his underwhelming viewing figures). There's not much money left in the pot to pay Bud's opponents.

So the only way Top Rank could stage bouts involving high-profile PBC names, is to potentially stage loss-making events, hence the reason why the Porter and Thurman fights aren’t being made.

Bob Arum keeps mentioning big name fighters when being interviewed, in order to keep Crawford’s name in the media spotlight, but the Top Rank chief never delivers.

And I really can’t help wondering whether Gary Russell Jr. is using the same ploy to promote himself, knowing full-well that Top Rank wouldn’t attempt to take him up on his offer, even if Crawford really did want the fight.

It’s a case of “let’s do some name dropping, even though I don’t really want the fight, because being insincere attracts media headlines and bigger audience figures”.

What I was told was LSC wanted to avenge his Amateur Loss to Russell and Russell was avoiding it, well if like you say. then Russell should sit ringside at the Tank VS LSC fight, and immediately after the fight, get in the Ring and Challenge the winner, So Russell can have a big fight and stop the foolish talk of going up 4 Weight divisions, IF they were the same size Russell VS T. Crawford would be a GREAT fight, as both have great skills, but at some point size matters when both are extremely high skilled.

I think you hit the nail on the head there. It is more of a message statement to show he's not afraid. GR is a good boxer, but needs to stay in his own division, maybe go up one, and be more active against better guys there.

They started arguing on youtube over it all over again which led to Russell stating he wanted to fight Crawford.
