The sooner he gets beaten by someone for a belt maybe he will crawl back into his shell and stop acting like he is some global superstar, when in actual fact he should be thanking his lucky stars that his promoter had links to Sky Box Office to earn him millions, far more than his talent deserved.

Dillian, you didnt become a 'box office star' yourself, you were with the right promoter who could tap into the casual market to lap up shite like Whyte v Chisora as a bloody box office fight.

Ridiculous. Roll on either AJ or Fury ironing him out and doing everyone a favour.

Whyte files lawsuit against WBC seeking discovery, depositions for arbitration

Heavyweight boxer Dillian Whyte has filed a lawsuit against the World Boxing Council seeking to force the organization into arbitration as well as request limited discovery.

The lawsuit filed in federal court in Florida requests assistance from the Court in obtaining discovery in preparation for an arbitration to take place in Sweden. The litigation boils down to Whyte wanting a ruling making him the regular champion, putting Fury in recess and/or fight with Tyson Fury and/or Deontay Wilder.

Via court filing

The filing was in Florida as the WBC’s place of business in the district. Whyte wants to pursue arbitration before the Court of Arbitration for Sport in Switzerland to dispute the contract he has with the WBC that he believes the promotion breached.

Whyte currently holds the World Boxing Council’s Interim Heavyweight title. In June 2020, he filed a grievance with the WBC. The reason was the lack of receiving a title fight. He had been the number one ranked heavyweight in the WBC rankings since November 2017 per the filing. He also filed a Declaration in support of the application to the Court. The sides resolved the dispute in a confidential settlement agreement. However, a portion of the Settlement Agreement was included in the filing. A portion of which is below:

The only thing that surprises me about all this is why any of them continue to care who the "governing bodies" say is champion.
There's Fury and there's Joshua. Until they fight they are a top 2, and who cares what the WBC, IBF,WBA or anyone else say. They have, or should have, far more power than any sanctioning body, so any attempts by those to make them do anything they don't want to do will result in them binning the belts and refusing to pay any more sanctioning fees. The WBC need them more than they need it.
If Whyte succeeds in having the belt taken from Fury and fights someone shit for it, what does he think he will have gained?

Plus he was missing either the diamond or silver belt when he beat Povetkin.

When Povetkin beat him, WBC said Whyte was no longer mandatory, and since the Pov win, no mandatory has been confirmed.

Fury said he was going to fight Whyte after Wilder.

I think the winner of Fury Wilder will be obliged to fight Whyte.

Why? They will fight him if it makes sense for them financially. If not, they won't.

The winner of Fury Wilder doesn't need the WBC belt to sell their next fight.

I don't think AJ cares that much abuot having the WBC belt either. Again, he will fight either of those two if the money is right for him, belt or no belts. All three of them have sufficient name recognition (among anyone remotely likely to pay for the fight) that all the belts are immaterial.

Belts are nothing nowadays but a marketing tool for boxers the public haven't heard of.

If fury vacates he has no belts and would be in a weaker negotiating position for the AJ fight.

That's my whole point, I don't think he would. I think Fury and Joshua are well past the point where belts matter.

We are in a world where names sell fights, even if those names are not known for boxing. The belts only matter to fighters who can't sell their names. Mayweather doesn't need to fight for a belt to sell a massive PPV; he doesn't even need to have a legitimate fight - an exhibition against a Youtuber who lots of people have heard of will sell.

I simply don't accept that Fury would, or would have to, accept a lower amount of the take from a Fury Joshua fight because he didn't have the WBC belt. It wouldn't sell one extra PPV package if it was on offer or not.
