He was also rocked by Helenuis and Wach. That's why I think, that, if Povetkin KOed him once, he'll definitely be able to catch Whyte again.Autobarn wrote: ↑23 Aug 2020, 07:49Well said. He is way too big for his height. That thick belly does not help him.Onamastus wrote: ↑23 Aug 2020, 06:21 I think Whyte ultimately is just too heavy. 252lbs is a Foreman model 2 weight, suitable for powerhouse types to whom everyone gives ground; not a circling, jabbing, counter-puncher, who surely needs to be light and lean, like Holmes and Holyfield were, in order to be quick and snappy. This is doubly the case if the chin is unreliable.
Bowe and Lewis, bigger men than Whyte, had nightmares when they came in at the 252lb range.
Although Dillian complains and cries a lot, I think he’ll be hard on himself and hopefully this gives him motivation to be in better shape.
As he can’t afford to get slopp and get clipped one more time. The warning signs were always there, throughout Chisora 1, the KDs vs Parker and Rivas. Not forgetting the fight that made him, the KO by Joshua in their minor classic “domestic world title elim”.

I blame the vest for his loss.. looked like it weighed quite a bit too.

How Whyte deals with this will determine the outcome of the rematch (obviously).DrDuke wrote: ↑23 Aug 2020, 08:19He was also rocked by Helenuis and Wach. I’d favour Whyte to win, but if he goes in gun shy and isn’t himself Pov will be all over him.

Easy to say now he’s lost but looks like they missed Tibbs in the corner. Re-watched it and some of the advice after the 4th was basic. Pulling in Dave Coldwell a few days before looked like they were worried.

They announced Dillains new trainer I noticed. Is that usual?
Bet Tibbs had a few celebratory drinks last night.

Dillian Whyte goes down and no count. Fury goes down and he gets the ten count. This is wrong, all fighters at this level should be given the chance to recover. Whyte deserves the immediate rematch,

Still a bit different situation. Whyte went down in a worse way. Eventually he wasn't able to get up without the help. He was literally out. Fury was conscious while down, he was looking at the ref and obviously stood up fully recovered.wildwaylon1 wrote: ↑23 Aug 2020, 10:08 Dillian Whyte goes down and no count. Thought I was hearing things for a second, I'd had a few beers. I'd switched to a Dazn stream for the final fight. Was I fook paying for that.
You'd think they might get a yank in seeing as Dazn isn't available in the UK, but instead we got Darren Barker.
Was chuffed to see Whyte get flattened, can't stand the guy for some reason.

Paraphrasing a bit from memory, but Smith during the fight: “Whyte's come up the hard way, taking these challenges, and he's improved so much since his loss to AJ on that balmy Wembley night. I saw Povetkin earlier this week, and for the first time ever he looked OLLLD”.
And then after:
“Only seven amateur fights...”

Yeah, but Mason was at that level in a strong era. I fancy he'd have won a world title or two in today's.CaptainSpacerod wrote: ↑22 Aug 2020, 20:18I compared him to Gary mason in the pre fight thread, both good solid euro level operators.

Talk of a rematch is good and all, but they will struggle to fit that in this year surely? So we're looking at early 2021, push the mandatory back by 12 months, Whyte will be 34 by the time he gets a WBC shot...
... Gotta wonder if he regrets turning down the other opportunities...

Yep, Mason was top 10 in a talent rich era.Grilling Machine wrote: ↑23 Aug 2020, 11:18 Paraphrasing a bit from memory, but Smith during the fight: “Whyte's come up the hard way, taking these challenges, and he's improved so much since his loss to AJ on that balmy Wembley night. Wembley? AJ-Whyte was at the O2.Grilling Machine wrote: ↑23 Aug 2020, 11:18 Paraphrasing a bit from memory, but Smith during the fight: “Whyte's come up the hard way, taking these challenges, and he's improved so much since his loss to AJ on that balmy Wembley night. What a beautiful left uppercut from Povetkin
We'll be seeing that KO replayed a million times.
He didn't look beaten when he was decked twice in the 4th, but I certainly didn't see such a turnaround coming in the very next round. You have to take your hat off to Povetkin producing such a stunning knockout at 40 over the worlds number one contender.
Hope Whyte rethinks the Tibbs situation.

Re: Round-by-Round: Dillian Whyte vs. Alexander Povetkin - 22 August 2020
Dillian has been interviewed today on Sky, is very happy with his shape (!!), doesn't need to improve anything, he just wants his rematch and this time to look out for that left hook cum uppercut...
So look for Povetkin to faint that punch several times before knocking Whyte out with the right.
