I always said Dillian Whyte was GARBAGE, he was juicing.
Look at his last fights, he looked shit. Don't make Povetkin victory anything special
Should Povetkin beat Whyte
Re: Should Povetkin beat Whyte
Povetkin had some mistakes during hus rise. He was given a really tough opposition too late. But he's an elite level fighter, championship worthy. His resume is very impressive and probably his win over Whyte became his biggest one. I'd put his top 5 wins this way:Perseus wrote: ↑22 Aug 2020, 21:40 Best since Lewis retired?
Is this a new category?
I look at Povetkin as just another boxer who was very good but fell short when he had a chance at the top.
Boxers who fit that description are perpetually present.
There is no shame in being that guy, not everybody gets to be a hall of famer.
For me his best wins are:
Dillian Whyte KO 5
40 years old, clearly diminished, clearly losing, erases a top contender with one punch. This will likely stand as his most memorable win and may be his best opponent defeated.
Ruslan Chagaev UD 12
Marco Huck MD12
Eddie Chambers UD12
Johann Dahaupas KO 6
Solid, respectable career and he's not done.
1. Whyte - interim WBC belt, Whyte was rated by many as the best after Fury, Joshua, Wilder.
2. Takam - Silver WBC belt, a fight against a truly top contender, it brought tons of experience.
3. Chagaev - Regular WBA belt, his first really big fight against a still credible ex-World champ.
4. Duhaupas - am impressive kayo against a one of the toughest competitors out there.
5. Charr - put Povetkin in the WBC contention.
His perioad after Klitschko loss, when he teamed up with a new coach, Ivan Kirpa, was his prime years really. He had a streak of Charr, Takam, Perez, Wach wins, then he was matched against Wilder and he could really KO Wilder back then. After the fight was off and after he fought Duhaupas instead of Stiverne he began to show some signs of decline.

Mariusz Wach and Christian Hammer were his pretty solid 2nd level opponents too. Before that, Wach fought Wladimir Klitschko and it wasn't so easy for Wlad. Povetkin, however, stopped Mariusz.

Right, those two were solid scalps. However, he could deal better with Hammer and also with Rudenko, but he was a bit declined already, in my opinion.AlexCayWalt wrote: ↑23 Aug 2020, 08:49 Mariusz Wach and Christian Hammer were his pretty solid 2nd level opponents too. Re: Should Povetkin beat Whyte
The stoppage of Wach was a little generous. Wach wasn't going anywhere, but they knew it'd stand out more on his record to have a stoppage win over that human anvil.AlexCayWalt wrote: ↑23 Aug 2020, 08:49 Mariusz Wach and Christian Hammer were his pretty solid 2nd level opponents too. Any KO win over a Top 10 Heavyweight is significant. I don't think it'll be getting Pov into the Hall of Fame or nothing, but it probably puts him back in line for a title shot.

Re: Should Povetkin beat Whyte
Dillian Whyte was coasting, it looked like Povetkin was almost ready to be stopped and then boom.
There didn't seem to be much juice on Povetkin's punches up until the left hook landed, he did place a few fairly well earlier on but it wasn't like the alarm bells were ringing was it ?
There was a moment in between rounds when Whyte's corner were instructing him to pace himself and take his time which I get, however it appeared clear that Whyte had more than enough power to hurt Povetkin and end the fight.
I've not seen any interviews from the boxers yet but I will do and I'm interested in hearing what Dillian Whyte has to say for himself.
Povetkin, what a result for the guy, he get's a guaranteed shot at the title now, hey good for him he proved me completely wrong and snatched a victory from the jaws of defeat, hats off to him.
