What is the weirdest conspiracy theory you ever heard about?
What is the weirdest conspiracy theory you ever heard about?
My two picks would be CJ Ross's gambling debts and Muhammad Ali's Phantom Punch.
What is the best one you heard / believe in?
Below is a video where I discuss 10 of these instances:

Weirdest is Tim Anderson being drugged in his rematch with marc gastineau. Supposedly he refused to throw the first fight so they drugged him for the rematch
Then Anderson shot and killed the promoter

Ike Ibeabuchi was drugged with psychotics to make him unstable, so his rise to the top would be thwarted, aided by the justice system that gave him 16 years in prison. The top HW boxers of the time (Holyfield, Lewis, Tyson, both Klitschkos) set up the chain of events with international organized crime because they knew they'd never stand a chance of beating him.

A funny one recently was that Andy Ruiz was wearing some sort of body armour during the AJ rematch weigh ins, to fool everyone and make them think he was unprepared when he was actually in career best, slimmed down shape
For some reason it just wasn't believable that a fat guy would come in fat lol

Re: What is the weirdest conspiracy theory you ever heard about?
Conspiracy theories tend to appear when the truth (reality?) is difficult to believe/accept, (especially so in the light of contradictory evidence).
For example, here's a few accepted versions of events which get regularly challenged:
Oswald was the lone gunman
Ruby shot Oswald to protect Jackie Kennedy
LBJ had nothing to do with it
Princess Diana died in a random car accident
The twin towers fell down by the planes alone
Paul McCartney is still alive
The 1969 moon landings were real.
The strangest one in boxing that I heard of was that George Foreman had been drugged before his historic encounter with Muhammad Ali in Zaire.
Foreman was to later write in his memoirs that before the fight his trainer Dick Sadler gave him something to drink that tasted like medicine.
"I almost spit it out ... 'Man, I know this water has medicine in it,'" Foreman wrote. "I climbed into the ring with that medicinal taste still lingering in my mouth."
"After the third round, I was as tired as if I had fought 15 rounds. What's going on here? Did someone slip a drug in my water?" he wrote.
To be fair to George, he also added,
"There was even worse medicine waiting in that ring - Muhammad Ali."

Re: What is the weirdest conspiracy theory you ever heard about?
There's so many great ones of these like the Poisoned Orange (where the folk at Kyoei apparently poisoned oranges with laxatives and gave them to opponents of Gushiken). The court in Japan seemed to state there was "enough" truth to not force the paper reporting it to not force a large civil case.
Note sure if it's a conspiracy but dodgy shit around the Erbito Salavarria v Betulio Gonzalez fight
Jae Doo Yuh was apparently drugged before the second bout with Koichi Wajima (poisoned strawberries)
Harold Johnson vs. Julio Mederos was another dodgy one
Not so much weird conspiracies I guess more...dodgy shit ones

Re: What is the weirdest conspiracy theory you ever heard about?
I don't know about the weirdest ones... But here are some I think might be true.
Wlad was drugged for the Brewster fight.
Browne got spiked in the Chagaev fight.
Wilder used the meldonium as an excuse to get out of the Povetkin fight. My guess is they knew there would be trace amounts of the stuff left from when it was still legal to use. Perfect excuse to get out of fight they didn't want. I think Wilder would have lost that fight so it was excellent plan.
Bradley got a gift decision against Pac for money reasons.
Most of the judges and refs are paid to favour the A side in fights.

Not sure that's a conspiracy theory. It sounded pretty real.Jeff_lacy_ko wrote: ↑27 Aug 2020, 12:00 Weirdest is Tim Anderson being drugged in his rematch with marc gastineau. Supposedly he refused to throw the first fight so they drugged him for the rematch

Actually, I also agree with this meldonium stuff. Team Wilder never tried to investigate anything and flew home immediately, while Povetkin was eventually justified. I was sure, that Povetkin would KO Wilder, if the fight happened, cause Povetkin was in his absolute prime in that period of time.Heretic wrote: ↑29 Aug 2020, 14:51 I don't know about the weirdest ones... And the last thing isn't even a theory, everything is pretty clear, when you watch the fights and compare it with the scores.
Re: What is the weirdest conspiracy theory you ever heard about?
That's not as much of a conspiracy theory as it is something that you know but can't prove. As in scoring is subjective so if you score a fight 10-2 for one guy when most saw it as a very close fight all you can say is in your opinion that was the score. Now, the commission can suspend or put you under investigation but unless any change of hands in money is proven you haven't actually done anything wrong other than have a sh*tty night scoring the fights.
Re: What is the weirdest conspiracy theory you ever heard about?
The Duran pooing himself theories are a little wild and strokes the imagination. But, everybody KNOWS that boxing is corrupt as h*ll, it's just a matter of proving it. And if the guy that can make more money wins a contreversial decision then who cares. Happens in all aspects of life. Like a song I heard the other night. "That's just the way it is."sykessta wrote: ↑30 Aug 2020, 01:49That's not as much of a conspiracy theory as it is something that you know but can't prove. Most of them surround judges, refs dives fakers and shakers are fairly easy to spot.
Re: What is the weirdest conspiracy theory you ever heard about?
Archie Moore impregnated a 12 year old girl and her family was going to press charges. Floyd Patterson's management paid off the girl's family to back off and, in return, Moore threw the Patterson bout.

Of course, then Ruiz waddles into the ring and you see he really was that fat.
Re: What is the weirdest conspiracy theory you ever heard about?
Never heard that one. Doesn't sound like Archie. And in all honesty, someone probably did get rid of Princess Diana.
