Horn v Tszyu socrecards: Phillip Holiday (77-73) and Derek Milham (79-73)

Post by belta53 »

The original boxrec record of last nights fight gave the scorecards as Chris Condon 80-71, Phillip Holiday 77-73, Derek Milham 79-73. This record has subsequently been ammended and the scorecards no longer appear.

The original record is available on the twitter feed of Brendan Bradford @1bbradfo

If the reporting of the scorecards of Phillip Holiday (77-73 Tszyu) and Derek Milham (79-73)is correct then surely there should be an official inquiry into this?

You can also see the judges scores if you click on the scorecard link to the right of the bout record. It only gives the initials of the judges but the scores match up to what was listed on the site previously.

Phillip and Derek both need to each get a Labrador, a white cane and a have a visit to OPSM as Horn lost every round.

Were they nodding off when the two knockdowns happened?

As soon as I saw Hollidays score I felt the same thing. Surely Horn never won a round. I was embarrassed watching the fight and, I am a fan of horn. He was simply awful, No plan and therefore no plan B. I don't think I have seen a more disappointing performance from a main event fighter

First round they were still getting into it and could've easily been scored either way, let's be honest. The beatdown didn't really get going until the 3rd. I wouldn't get too worked up about a judge giving Horn 1 round out of 8. An inquiry over Milham's card would be silly

Admittedly I don't see where Phil got 3 rounds from, when that type of thing happens, at very least the judge should explain their scoring. Judges have so much power over fighters' careers., yet there is often no accountability.

I agree with you that you could give the first round, to Horn (I thought it was a Tszyu round myself), however every other round was very clear to me and then you had the two knockdowns in rounds 3 and 6 meaning those rounds should be 10-8 rounds. For me the fight is scored either 80-70 Tszyu or 79-71 Tszyu. Obviously Holiday's card was much worse than Milham's however both have seemed to disregard the knockdowns and thus I feel both should be looked into further.

In my opinion Australian boxing only does itself harm by having people like Holiday officiating in a paid role.

I think your analysis is a little unkind to Tszyu. Horn's tactics were the same he has used in many of his fights, Tszyu was able to hit him with sharp enough shots that the Horn game-plan went out the window. You could make a strong case that Horn is not the fighter he was when he fought Crawford, but still I think we need to give Tszyu plenty of credit.

Rushton done his job well then , or at least that part of it , his moaning and bitching , and accusations of favoritism worked , seems like he had the judges scared to go to far against Horn , they gave him rnds he did'nt win ..

Interesting!
I met him in person the night he lost to Hector Camacho Sr. I could not go to the fight itself because I had no money for tickets, but I went to the parking lot to collect autographs from the boxers afterwards. Anyways, considering he had just lost, he was a heck of a nice man! very accommodating and chatty! So I hear he is a bad fight judge then??

That card seemed a bit unusual but after looking at Phil’s judging record, most of his cards seem to be about right or at least with the other judges. So I wouldn’t think he’s a bad judge but maybe a bad night.
