This was an #L for me i still don't rate Herring.

I don't get it. If the headbutt causing the cut was an intentional foul why wasn't a point deducted?

Herring was the better fighter but that isn't saying much. Oquendo hasn't been a serious contender in years.

Should be a TKO loss for Herring shouldn't it? He said he couldn't continue.

He was way up on the cards I’m sure. End result would’ve been same. Herring has a big payday with Frampton coming and he’s got a guy trying to gash his head open with his head. Almost can’t blame him for pulling the rip cord.

Frampton should beat him. Comfortably even.

Had it gone to cards after round 8, there was no catching up for Oquendo, cuz he only won a single round on any card.

Some gave him rounds 6 through 8.

With Herring all the early rounds. With the KD and PD, Herring would have won on points after 12 rounds maybe..

This fight really lacked use of the jab.

Herring won every round, I didn't even really understand how Ward gave the first to Oquendo.

The decision was beyond doubt, all he had to do was survive the last 4 rounds.

Agreed. I had Oquendo winning a single round. Factoring in the point deduction and knockdown the fight was effectively unwinnable for Oquendo barring several knockdowns or a knockout in the last four rounds.

I don’t know which call I liked less. The ruling on the intentional headbutt for what looked like a pretty normal clash of heads in a southpaw-ortho matchup. Or the decision that Herring couldn’t continue despite his eye having cleared up three times during the fight and really not being any worse after the eighth.

Tony Weeks is a great ref, but Saturday was far from his best work. Thought Herring should’ve been deducted for clearly intentional low blows, and there was no warning for the incessant tie ups by either man.

Just a disappointment of a fight. I think Frampton beats down Herring. My guess.

Oquendo is a dirty mofo. Herring was winning the fight, but he looked worse in the final rounds. He did the correct thing with going out of this fight, acknowledging that he had been cut by a foulish move. The referee wasn't penalizing Oquendo enough. He could easily continue to deduct points from dirty mofo on many occasions.
