Anyone else noticing ads ruining BoxRec?
Over the last few days I've had a weird issue with BoxRec fighter pages, where the page initially looks normal, but once the ads at the top of the page load, the formatting of the entire page gets completely wrecked.
Has anyone else noticed this?

I have seen the formatting go wacky recently too, yes.

Yeh, can they not have the have in between the records?
Why not at the bottom or at the top, before the resume table starts.

while id obviously rather no ads, hard to say no to cash.. I dont mind them inbetween records, But i had an ad the other day covering up a full fight on someones record. I only noticed cause he was like 20ish-2, and when i scrolled through i was thinking, no he is 20ish-1, they fuked this. then clicked x on the ad and a fight he had loss was behind it.

I don't begrudge BoxRec having ads but they might want to vet them a little better. Some must be coded poorly (or maliciously) to be causing this.

Re: Anyone else noticing ads ruining BoxRec?
For years, but we don't have to pay to use it. There is very little money in the vast majority of boxing media, blogging and websites. It can be annoying, but without them it might not be around.
Re: Anyone else noticing ads ruining BoxRec?
Obviously ads are fine but appearing in the middle of a record covering some results is not. This was happening a few weeks back and was fixed but seems to be back...
Re: Anyone else noticing ads ruining BoxRec?
We really don't have any control over the advertisers, they are supplied by agencies who are supplied by agencies etc etc. I tried a membership option where you could pay for no ads but hardly anyone subscribed.
But we certainly could do with a bit more money, tech is getting more and more complex and we need another programmer on board. Do you think people would pay a $3.99 per month for a subscription with no ads and maybe a few additional features ?

I don't actually mind the ads too much but I'd consider paying a small fee for a premium account. Do you have any ideas for the few additional features?John wrote: ↑07 Sep 2020, 12:04 We really don't have any control over the advertisers, they are supplied by agencies who are supplied by agencies etc etc. I tried a membership option where you could pay for no ads but hardly anyone subscribed.

Re: Anyone else noticing ads ruining BoxRec?
I thought of email notifications of sched & results for watched boxers, ideas welcome
Re: Anyone else noticing ads ruining BoxRec?
That's the main thing I would actually be looking for to be honest as it saves me frequently checking the watchlist to look for updates. Even on-site notifications with sched and results would be good. I'll leave any additional ideas to others.

Good idea this..
Re: Anyone else noticing ads ruining BoxRec?
I think it's pretty irresponsible to employ someone if you are depending on donations for their salary. We really ought to have to have a reliable and consistent funding stream.

Another problem we have is that more and more people are using Ad blockers ![[icon_e_sad.gif] :verysad:](./images/smilies/icon_e_sad.gif)

What is it you need help with coding wise? Which languages is the code base in? I'm a developer, and there could be more who frequent here who might be up to contributingJohn wrote: ↑07 Sep 2020, 12:04 We really don't have any control over the advertisers, they are supplied by agencies who are supplied by agencies etc etc. I tried a membership option where you could pay for no ads but hardly anyone subscribed.

Re: Anyone else noticing ads ruining BoxRec?
It’s more a formatting issue, I think. I’m no expert but have run a couple of my own websites in the past and there problems with the size of ads supplied and it can be difficult to get them formatted correctly. Especially as there’s a difference between computer and mobile.John wrote: ↑07 Sep 2020, 12:04 We really don't have any control over the advertisers, they are supplied by agencies who are supplied by agencies etc etc. I tried a membership option where you could pay for no ads but hardly anyone subscribed.

I don’t care if there are ads at the top, middle and bottom of the record so long as I can see the whole record
