Patrick Teixeira vs. Tim Tszyu - Title Clash Being Explored
There appears to be some discussions taking place to match undefeated junior middleweight contender Tim Tszyu against WBO world champion Patrick Teixeira, potentially at the end of the year in Australia.
On August 26, Tszyu secured his career best win when he dominated and stopped former world champion Jeff Horn before a crowd of 16,000 fans in Townsville.
The victory elevated Tszyu to the number two position in the WBO's junior middleweight rankings.
According to Tszyu's promoter, Matt Rose, Golden Boy Promotions (who have Teixeira) are interested in making that fight happen.
“All parties are very interested in making this fight happen - Teixeira’s promoters (Golden Boy Promotions) want to see him back in the ring defending his belt as soon as possible and the WBO is obviously in the business of keeping their champions active,” says Tszyu’s promoter Matt Rose.
“There’s a few hurdles to get over but it’s looking good and it could all happen very quickly, plus it helps that the world just saw a big crowd at our event in Townsville.”
Teixeira, in active since November 2019, owes a mandatory defense to Brian Castano of Argentina.
The fight was scheduled for a date in April before it canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Between different COVID-19 restrictions, it's unlikely Teixeira will face Castano in 2020.
“Ultimately we have asked the WBO to grant the champion (Teixeira) a ‘voluntary’ defence given that it looks increasingly unlikely he’ll be able to fight his ‘mandatory’ before the end of the year,” said Rose.
“Australia is a very enticing prospect for everybody involved as unlike the US, Brazil or Argentina we can have crowds at boxing events right now and the restrictions on crowd numbers are being eased.”
The WBO is expected to make a decision this Thursday on the request by Team Tszyu for a title fight with Teixeira.

Hope they go with the Tim Tszyu option. They do have the advantage of being able to offer fans in a stadium if it’s in aus. Good to get in early while at least in Australia Tim has good momentum.

Parts of aus. Your Aussie I believe, some states...or one in particular is facing a George Orwell 1984 scenario. But yea I agree...awesome for Aus fans. But some of us can’t cross borders...gregregegg wrote: ↑10 Sep 2020, 01:47 Hope they go with the Tim Tszyu option. They do have the advantage of being able to offer fans in a stadium if it’s in aus. WBO said no to this fight, the Castano fight has been ordered. Golden Boy having financial troubles and no dates so I could see Patrick getting stripped of the WBO.

Is Castano with PBC?
They wouldn’t strip him without going to purse bids. Al can show it as a FOX main event.

The fight was already won by Golden Boy and was going to be on a Kovalev card before the pandemicRuthless-RKO wrote: ↑10 Sep 2020, 03:40Is Castano with PBC?
