Dunno if its me but i cant recall a fighter who took his promoter to court and came out the better for it. Either financially or in the ring

From what I read it seems DAZN and GBP are saying that his guaranteed 35 mln per fight was dependent on an agreed level of opponent which he claims was never part of the contract.

As a bystander it looks very much like they are realising that this sort of money is going to be impossible to cover in the current climate and they are looking for an out. So, it could come down in his favour if that’s the case...

Impossible to cover with the opponents he seeks. Canelo is a wanker.

Of course it is, in fact there isn’t literally any run of opponents they could have put together to cover that contract. It was always a loss leader for their subscription service which, for COVID and other reasons is dying a death

He’s asking for Roy Jones style opponents. If he faced the best consistently he’d get paid what he asks.

I agree with that, but I remember the chat in here when the contract was announced and the prevailing opinion was they would never get close to breaking even. Obviously with lack of crowd they will be even further away. Essentially if there isn’t a specific opponent quality clause in the contract then they could be in trouble. But, yeah, Rocky Fielding as an opponent for this type of contract

I read that Canelo's contract stipulates he has to fight twice a year, at least once against a premium opponent, Dazn didnt consider Kovalev or Jacob's premium, they're happy for him to fight Saunders or Smith but still don't regard either premium

They regard premium as Golovkin, Khabib, some other UFC fighter Jorge something and 47 year old 12 years retired Oscar

I'm not a fan of Canelo the man and I like what Dazn are trying to do but I gotta agree with Alvarez here

The more i read about Canelo the more i dislike him ,, I;ve always been a hater of cherry picked fights , but he really takes the cake , , i liked him has a young up and coming boxer , taking on Mayweather and more so because he done it having to go by the mayweather rules ,, But since then he has took grabbing an advantage to the extreme , suppose you can say well he's the star , but now he btes the hands that fed him ,, I hope they tie him up in court for years and win , or just simply come to an agreement and let him walk out the contract , which really is probably what he wants ,,

Then lets see who is willing to pay him obscene amounts to fight 80-20 fights and gauranteed wins

Whoever signed that deal (and Eddie Hearn's $1bn one) needs taking out back and shooting.

At $40m fight (his purse + $5m) they needed around 2m people to tune in at $20 a pop. The global viewer base for DAZN currently stands at about 8m.

Completely idiotic business.

I get loss leaders, and how they entice people in etc etc, or they act as a marketing tool etc. Completely get it. But they are meant to be manageable losses, affordable losses, losses that open the door to a profit. I also accept there were more in the way of incoming money (advertising, international rights where DAZN aren't currently in action etc, etc), but that was still a completely ridiculous sum of money for a 2-time a year participant in a niche sport, with an aging fan base, on a niche new service.

I can't help but repeatedly think that DAZN though their competition was ESPN/Showtime/Fox ETC, when really it was Netflix/Amazon Prime/Hulu. They marketed as if they were in the sports field, but really their competition was the streaming rivals, and they offer so much more, with flexibility.

Streaming in sport IS the way forward IMO, but it needs to be built up gradually, rather than have money men spunking all over the walls. The big splash of new media rarely pans out well. See Quibi as another example.

Also the same people who thought Canelo, Kovalev and the "millions watching around the world"

Should sit and wait for a ufc to finish before commencing.

Canelo v Yildrim now going to purse bids.

Jesus I bet that’s gonna be a free for all. Despite it being a sh1t fight everyone will be bidding on that surely?

Also it’s just dawned on me if it’s going to purse bids what will the split be? A damn site more than what Yildrim could have hoped for before surely?

Pretty sure it should be 50-50 for a vacant title fight... But it's the WBC so whatever they deem fit...

Will be a fun purse bid though!

Not a donkeys chance in hell Canelo takes a fight where he’s only getting 50% of the purse. Especially against a clown like Yildrim.

And it can’t be negotiated surely it’s a fu caking purse bid for a vacant title this will be a joke if they change the rules to that degree (unless of course we’ve misunderstood something.)

If he's contracted too Dazn and Golden boy , surely him taking a fight against anyone at this moment would be breaking his contract ,,, or perhaps they will allow maybee even encourage him to go to purse bids , then when its a 10 million dollar bid , they can argue , they were correct in Canelo refusing to fight the higher echelon he was supposed too ,, ,,

Dunno , just guesswork and conjecture from me , still whichever way i just hope that Cheatelo comes out with the short end of the stick

This is the prequel to ODH vs Canelo

As ridiculous as it is, it’ll make both of them an absolute fortune.

Dig this up late on because it’s happening.
