Good breakdown and how WSoB hides experience level. Though, for an aged fighter, it's something of a wonder to see GGG soak up that 10th rnd punishment, still come forward and then take the championship rounds. I think GGG has looked sloppy for a few years, but he's not near shot. It'd probably take a move up to LHW to find anybody that could actually drop him. At that, he could probably take Kovalev's shot better than vice versa.Perseus wrote: ↑07 Oct 2019, 21:50 Before the fight I called an easy win for GGG via wide UD or late stoppage.
After two rounds I was feeling pretty good about that call.........................then the bell rang for round three.
Great fight, not FOTY imo but a great fight. I will be watching that one again in the future.
I had GGG 114-113 and I think it could reasonably have been scored for Derev. Very close, hard fought, great fight.
I'm not going to say GGG should retire because that's his call not mine but for the first time I thought he looked old and he wasn't in there with a significantly younger fighter in his own prime.
Derev will be 34 at the end of this month, had 400+ amateur fights, 24 pro fights in the world series of boxing plus the pro fights that this site counts.
Derev has had 200 professional rounds(107 in WSoB), GGG has 212 rounds.
Would love to see a rematch but I'll be surprised if GGG takes a rematch here.
The last time the IBF tried to force a mandatory on GGG he discarded their belt, this time he will use that same belt to face someone other than Sergiy.

Also, Derevy's style of lateral movement and combos kept GGG guessing along with body punishment. His offensive attack was swarming and pretty complete.

Derev had a great game plan and fought a great fight
Usually when an aging fighter is made to look old it's not a high mileage opponent that's only a few years younger that does it.
If GGG was a shot fighter he either would not have finished this fight or would have decided hearing the final bell was more important than trying to win.
On the downside but not a spent bullet.

Really enjoyed this fight.
I had Dev by a couple, but it was close and could have gone either way.
The cards were close enough that it can't really be called a robbery, and I certainly don't begrudge GGG getting the rub of the green given how his fights with Canelo were scored.
Wouldn't mind seeing a rematch, I would expect GGG to win clearly if they went at it again, but wouldn't risk much money on it.

Do you not use the ‘Remember Me’ option? Or does that not work?

now after all that hard bag work and shadow boxing, you need some good sleep for recovery

Re: Round-by-Round: Gennady Golovkin vs. Sergiy Derevyanchenko - October 5, 2019
