Woods Johnson is a GO for the States

Two major purse bids were held today at IBF headquarters in East Orange, New Jersey. Sauerland Event won the Arthur Abraham vs. Edison Miranda middleweight title purse bid with a bid of $404,000. Warriors Boxing bid $355,000. That bout will be held in Germany on September 2 at a site to be named.

Warriors Boxing and Sports Network teamed up to win the Clinton Woods vs. Glenn Johnson light heavyweight title purse bid with a bid of $505,000. Fight Academy bid $457,000. No site named for that one yet, but it is expected the fight will be held at the Seminole Hard Rock LIVE Arena in Hollywood, Florida. Under the banner of Warriors Boxing in association with Sports Network, whose chief allegedly is the bitter rival of Woods' promoter Dennis Hobson. A jubilant Warren said today, "I'm happy to have won this fight and to cement my relationship with Warrior Boxing and Glen Johnson. Clinton's promoter may have won if he had the faith in his own fighter that his recent offer of a bet suggested. I'm sure Clinton will be disappointed that he will have to put his title on the line against a guy he has yet to beat on two occasions in his hometown and for 50% of what he was offered to fight Joe Calzaghe here in Britain."

Anybody know what the IBF's rules are? Is it 90 days from the purse bids that the fight must be staged, as per the WBC?

Then we could have a good guestimate as to when the fight will come off.

Has warren just done this to be pissy then? Its odd how his quote wasn't even about the fight just how much he wishes calzaghe would grow a pair and the two of them would fight.

I'd bet my life this will be on same card as Calzaghe v TBA... Warren may have tried for 10months to get back at Hobson for taking Hatton but he's not gonna pay money for Warriors to put on a card on f-ing ESPN or those crappy PPVs which retail for £2.99... nah, Woods v Johnson III plus Calzaghe v TBA on September 9 sounds right to me... HBO would love that bill!

I can see Woods outboxing him this fight & getting a bum decision. I noticed Bell gets away with anything in Florida. Could be the same here. Johnson is perhaps Warrior's biggest name & they'll want to make sure he wins.

It would sorta like be Karmic retribution for what happened to Johnson in the first fight.

I think Johnson deserves the 3rd fight @ home after fighting the 1st 2 in the UK.

the 1st fight was no robbery. tell me if the last round shouldn't have been a two pointer for Woods (normally is when a guy gets staggered and battered to his knees), and tell me if you think johnson was more than a round or two ahead going into the twelfth.

I think 1 thing for ceratain is that this will be a close fight, so the howntown fighter may get the decision if close, it may be a case of Woods having to stop Johnson to get the win which would be a great achievement for Woods.

Don't think I have ever said this for a Glen Johnson fight before, but Woods might need a knockout to get a draw in this one.

CLEARLY Warren wants Woods to lose. He wouldnt have bought this fight if it was just to set up Woods-Calzaghe in September. Johnson is getting up there in years and JC would gain a lot of cred fighting the guy who he backed out on three times now. Plus HBO is involved.

Why else upstage FA, if youre going to risk your #1 fighter against their's anyway?

And as vicious pointed out, hometown advantage will be against Woods as well. This will be a tough fight for Clinton, he's in a very similar situation to Tomasz Adamek right now.

I think there is an eliment of Warren letting other promoters know not to fcuk with him. He has spent too long at the top to loose out to young up starts. Iv been in politics long enough to recognise a brutal fcuker when I see one

He would get some credit, but not a lot. Fighting the winner of Kessler Vs Beyer would get him a lot more credit.

There was no knock down and even a two point round wouldn’t be enough.
Johnson controlled, outworked and out hustled Woods wining 8 of the 1st 10 rounds.

Co promoter Rob Waterman’s own Seconds Out reporter and most people at ringside saw Johnson as a clear winner by at least three rounds.

8 of the 1st 10! That's a bit strong, I was at ringside, and I had Johnson a clear winner, but it was closer than that, I think I had a couple even, and gave Woods 3 0r 4 Rounds. I didn't think that was a legit knockdown either.

I had Johnson clearly winning rds 1 through 6, then 9 & 10.
Wood won 7, 8, 11 & 12. (116-112)

What I felt was that overall it was a pretty clear win for Johnson. the rounds he won, he dominated, whilst Woods shaded a few, and for me some were too close to call. This is why I think boxing scoring needs to be changed to allow judges to reflect this.
