Joshua Buatsi vs. Anthony Yarde - Who wins?

Post by Ruthless-RKO »

Hearn on Yarde-Buatsi: It's a Massive Box Office Fight at The O2

Eddie Hearn says he wants a fight between Joshua Buatsi and Anthony Yarde to take place next year and believes it doesn’t need a world title to be attached to make it a big fight.

A Buatsi vs. Yarde fight was one of the stand-outs of a list sent to Hearn by allegedly of potential match-ups between the camps of the rival promoters.

Hearn has said he plans to meet with Warren, whom he has never met, to discuss possible fights, although he has also played down any thoughts of the two groups teaming up over a prolonged period of time.

Yarde, the former WBO light heavyweight title challenger, has said himself that he sees a Buatsi fight as a long-term option, but Hearn believes it could come soon.

Buatsi is due to have his first fight in more than a year when he faces Marko Calic, of Croatia, on October 4, but Hearn has the Yarde fight n mind.

“I think that’s a natural fight,” Hearn said. “It’s a huge O2 fight for 2021. Sometimes when you get two young British talents you could say ‘one should have a world title and you can go into a world championship fight’. The world we live in today, let’s just get that made next year.

“It’s a massive Box Office fight at the O2, huge fight for both, two great fighters. But first things first, Buatsi has been out for a long time and needs to perform well against Calic.”

Not that Yarde is the only man in Hearn’s plans for Buatsi. Another fight for 2021 could be against Callum Johnson, who has not boxed since March last year, when he stopped Sean Monaghan, his first fight since losing to Artur Beterbiev for the IBF title in 2018, when he had the Russian on the floor before being knocked out in a four round shoot-out.

Johnson is first due to face another Russian, Igor Mikhalkin, the European champion. If Johnson wins, he is likely to defend the title against Buatsi.

Buatsi via late stoppage, much more to his game than Yarde.

Yeah, I pretty much conclude the same.

Yarde boxes well within himself when facing opponents of a certain level. Against Spelman he hardly threw a punch for 2 or 3 rounds. Sense says he should have taken a similar pounding from Kovalev to what Cleverly did but that didn’t happen.

I still see Buatsi as too technically sound tho. He just boxes so smoothly, albeit at the level he’s been facing. Fighting Callum Johnson will tell us a lot. If that can be done in December it will make up for a lot of lost time.

Buatsi stops him. That kid looked great in the Olympics. Yarde is a load of manufactured old snake oil bollocks. Buatsi's the real deal.

A couple of years ago I would have said Buatsi all day long. I’d still favour him, but I am slightly uncomfortable about just how softly he has been matched in his pro career - for an Olympian of his pedigree he’s moved at snails pace and his next opponent is disappointing as well.
Yarde has his faults and I think Buatsi would outbox and outlast him. I’m just a wee bit nervous that there is a reason Buatsi’s career is yet to get going

I think matchroom have let Buatsi down a bit tbh, unless it’s Buatsi’s management .

He has been matched quite softly which isn’t normal matchroom fast Track style.

Looks a classy operator whenever I have seen him fight, so I am kind of surprised at how slow his progress has been .

Granted he is in a stacked division so absolutely no cheap titles available

He's been managed weirdly hasn't he? When he came out of the Olympics I thought this kid has the potential to be a big star- powerful, seems a nice bloke, can actually talk and has a bit of personality... And then he just dropped off my radar. I don't think I've watched more than 1 or 2 of his pro fights. He's never fought anybody with a pulse and doesn't seem to do a lot of press either.

Isn't he promoted or managed by Anthony Joshua or something, rather than Matchroom? We all know AJ doesn't like paying opponents very much. Maybe that's part of it: people want to get paid and the budget to pay to get Buatsi a decent opponent just isn't there? I don't know anything.

All I know is that in the ams he looked like he had a pro-style already and was stopping people.

There's so much bollocks and salesmanship around Yarde: he's an instagram boxer. He's more into how his muscles look than learning the craft. Buatsi should knock him out.

I'm being a kill joy, but I just think what's the point of getting excited about this fight when clearly W@arren's proposition was a just publicity stunt...at least for now.

His own boxer (Yarde) even says it won't happen yet and almost seems to admire the fact Mayweather boxed Pacman when it suited him ! Of course he contradicts himself almost in the same breathe saying he wants the Buatsi fight.

Hearn: I've Made a Very Big Offer To Yarde For Buatsi Fight

Promoter Eddie Hearn has revealed that he's made a “very big offer” to Anthony Yarde for an all-British light heavyweight clash against Joshua Buatsi.

Buatsi was forced to withdraw from a scheduled showdown against Maxim Vlasov in December with a hand injury, but is set to return in April.

The London rivals have been long-been linked with a domestic meeting and Hearn, who promotes Buatsi, says he has offered the fight to Yarde, who is currently the number one contender with the WBO, who is with allegedly, as well as to former world title challenger, Craig Richards.

“Joshua Buatsi, supposed to see him actually on Friday,” Hearn told Pro Boxing Fans.

“Hand is good, he’ll be back in April. I think sometimes when you miss a fight, you decide to roll the dice and go into a big fight. Actually made a very big offer to Anthony Yarde to fight Joshua Buatsi.

“It’s still a fight that I would love to make and also Craig Richards as well, I’ve made him an offer to fight Joshua Buatsi. I just feel that if we can’t make right now Buatsi against [Dmitry] Bivol or if they can’t make Yarde against [Joe] Smith [Jr]. Start making the biggest fights possible. For a long time I’ve wanted to see Buatsi against Yarde. We’ll see what happens about that.

“Hopefully these guys get world title shots but if they don’t, they should be willing to take these kinds of fights and from our side they are.”

Yarde is currently slated to return to the ring in March. Beyond that, his team is going to make a request to the WBO to order a mandatory fight with WBO world champion Joe Smith.

Tunde has already said Buatsi doesn't deserve the Yarde fight, like Yarde is the bigger fish.

We need to see the fight.

I know both are going down different paths,

Buatsi the WBA and Yarde the WBO.

If they both win, make some defences and then have a bigger unification fight, seems good, but Yarde has already lost his '0' anyway..

If they fight this year, they can both still be world champions in the future.. and fight again in the future..

Tunde talks a lot of shit. Whilst Yarde beat Arthur in a good domestic rematch, is Arthur actually any better than Bolotniks? Or Calic even? I don’t think so personally and I think Yarde’s performance in his first with Arthur made Arthur seem a fair bit better than he is.

Yarde is currently mandatory for probably the easiest belt at 175 (not easy though but he is a chance). That itself will be a quality pay day, but if he wins it, the way things are timed canelo will be looking to clean out 175 by then i think making Yarde a very attractive canelo opponent.

Im sure thats why Eddie is keen on making a big offer to Yarde, swoop that exact senario but with buatsi instead.

For Yarde to accept this offer Eddie will have to pay the value for the fight, plus the value for the position yarde is in. which in my opinion is a bigggg old chunk of cash. I personaly doubt eddies offer will be close to that, but i dont know.

I hope not.
But then if they keep teasing it, like Brook and Khan, I'll probably have a guts full and not want to see it anyway, just out of principle, like Brook and Khan.

Probably not or not by much if he is. The Vlasov fight would've been more interesting. Beterbiev, Bivol, Smith Jr, Ramirez, Smith and Browne have to be on his radar after this fight. Sullivan Barrera is also there for the taking.

If he's going to face Yarde, get it over and done with now and then try win a belt. No point building up a domestic/euro level scrap when you have the potential to be world level. If he's not going to face him then get on with it with a better opponent that Richards.

Frank isn’t going to let Yarde fight him. He’s being saved for his world title fight now he’s number 1 with the WBO. I’d expect Yarde to fight poor opponents until that happens.
