Perhaps the two greatest fighters in the history of the game.
This fight takes place at 135 pounds. Both men in their prime.Who wins and why, and please remember,Julio did not lose a fight until he was into his 94th fight. Does the fireman Duran beat the Iceman Chavez. Does FIRE melt ICE, or does ICE put out FIRE???
Duran would win. Both were great fighters, but Duran was better, he was more ingenious as a boxer, his game was more tricky. They would brawl and Duran would find more openings. Roberto would get better of the most of the exchanges.
Duran all the way. He was a total package and at 135 pds he was awesome. Chavez was a total package but on a lesser scale. Duran with his fierceness and superior skills and defense wins this but he would have to be at his very best. Great matchup awesome fight and i believe Duran wins a hard fought well deserved unanimous decision.
Duran for sure. He could take a shot, and go toe to toe with Chavez all day long and hold his own, but he also had more wrinkles to his game, and would definitely have more tricks up his sleeve to land more shots, and avoid more shots.
I think Duran could either win in a war or he could make it easier if he boxed intelligently the whole way. Either way though I think he wins.
I think a lot of guys on here never saw Chavez in person, and I think think the mystique of Duran gives him an edge in many peoples mind. However the way I look at this is, if Dejesus could beat and put down Duran at lgt how is it Chavez who was UNBEATABLE at 130-135 and for most of 140 lbs, could not beat Duran at any game Duran brought to the table. And especially when Chavez ruled the lower weights there was nobody that could with stand his ice cool onslaught. It's also incredible at how intelligent Chavez was in breaking down whatever style he fought while in his prime. I'd say Chavez gets a decision win, styles make fights, Chavez had a style with those body shots that made everyone realize he could not be beaten.
Chavez had plenty of trouble with lockridge and laporte, dejesus was better than both. Chavez can't be ruled out but I'm hard pressed to find an advantage for him here.
Picking them at their best it's pretty hard for me not to go Duran UD, Chavesz is tough as nails and would last and have his moments, but Duran just had those extra special ingredients to give him an edge whether he wants to box or fight it out
chavez could beat duran if duran didnt turn up, as was sometimes the case, but defo more often than not it's berto winning it, and for sure if we take them both at their best
