Michael Spinks vs Jack Dempsey

Post by zuru »

15 rds Cruiserweight.
Both great fighters.Edge to Spinks in height/reach I'd guess.
Spinks unorthodox style doesn't play to his advantage here I'd guess.Im basing all this on writing account of Dempsey as his available footage is limited.
If Spinks can stay on the move and avoid slugging he wins a decision. If he trades punches,i think Dempsey stops him. Spinks had a great chin himself. But based on what I've read,,a sustained slugfest and Dempsey kos him.

If this is fought back in 1918 Spinks would not have a chance. If fought today, he might have a some what of a chance. Still it's hard to get out of your mind how Tyson with the Dempsey style, destroyed Spinks so easily. I'd have to say Dempsey was just to brutal and Spinks would fall victim to the savage killer Dempsey. Also Jack had more 1st round K.O's than any hwt champ in the history of the game.

Spinks was more advanced than Dempsey. He could do a sort of Tunney stuff with Dempsey. Anyway, even Tunney got decked. Would Spinks be able to come back after similar situation is another question. I also think, people underrate him because of the Tyson loss. Spinks was scared, which is strange because of his level, he wasn't some bum. Tyson was similar to Dempsey in this case. If Spinks sh!tted his pants before Dempsey like he actually did against Tyson, then, of course, he would be KOed fast. But, generally, the Spinks type of boxer should deal with Jack.
