Which fights do you think Floyd Mayweather Jr. actually lost?
In my opinion;
- Jose Luis Castillo (2002-04, first fight)
- Oscar De La Hoya (2007-05)
- Marcos Maidana (2014-05, first fight)
- Manny Pacquiao (2015-05)
He lost these fights.

Jose Luis Castillo in the 1st fight was a clear defeat in my opinion.
Marcos Maidana in the 1st fight could've gone either way, and he was a bit lucky to have gotten it.
He beat Oscar De La Hoya and Pacquiao clearly.
Frankly he had closer, more difficult fights than that with Zab Judah and Miguel Cotto.

First Castillo fight I thought he lost something like 8-4, 7-5
Maidana first fight I usually go with the aggressor so probably would have given it to Maidana close but wasn't a robbery that Money won
The others he clearly won, IMO

He lost first Castillo fight definitely.Tevfik1907 wrote: ↑22 Sep 2020, 09:17 In my opinion;

Last time i watched De la Hoya fight was years ago but i thought Mayweather won that one.
First Maidana fight was Floyds most entertaining fight, i had it 115-113 for Mayweather. 114-114 can be also good but i dont think Maidana won that. Mayweather handled that fight like a man.
He won against Manny Pacquiao in a close fight too. Close but clear. Still, i think no version of Mayweather could handle 2008 - 2011 version of Manny.
Re: Which fights do you think Floyd Mayweather Jr. actually lost?
The first Castillo fight was close. I watched it several times with scoring it differently. After the most recent time I scored for Mayweather.
The De La Hoya fight was competetive, but clearly Mayweather's.
The first Maidana fight was even more clearly Mayweather's.
The Pacquiao fight no way was a robbery, not even close.

Only one I thought he lost was Castillo 1.
Maidana 1 reasonably could have went against Floyd........but it didn't.

Seeing them live, I had Mayweather edging Castillo in the first bout and losing, very close to Oscar. Watching the replays, I had Castillo winning-and not just edging Floyd- and The De La Hoya bout a draw.
Re: Which fights do you think Floyd Mayweather Jr. actually lost?
Castillo 1 was the hardest fight I saw him. I don’t think it was a robbery by any means. It was a close fight.
Re: Which fights do you think Floyd Mayweather Jr. actually lost?
I've watched Mayweather vs Castillo 1 about 10 times over the years. I scored it on two separate occasions.DrDuke wrote: ↑22 Sep 2020, 10:40 The first Castillo fight was close. I watched it several times with scoring it differently. After the most recent time I scored for Mayweather.

The scores I came up with were 116-110 Castillo and 115-111 Castillo respectively.
Re: Which fights do you think Floyd Mayweather Jr. actually lost?
How the well would you see the Castillo fight as closer than the De La Hoya fight?
Castillo won clearly and Floyd won clearly against Oscar.
Those 2 fights are world's apart in terms of how competitive they are.

Oscar was a really easy fight to score. 8-4 Floyd at best for Oscar. The second Castillo fight was closer.
Re: Which fights do you think Floyd Mayweather Jr. actually lost?
Looks like I'm the only one, but I scored Mayweather v Judah a draw.

I thought he lost Castillo I (at the time I watched it, at least), the others he won by at least 115-113 (Maidana I and Castillo II). Oscar, Pacquiao and Cotto I scored 116-112. Canelo 118-110. And I was mostly rooting against Floyd (Maidana, Oscar, Pacquaio and Canelo) but you have to give him credit.

Castillo 1, that's it, I know a minority scored it for Floyd but can't see it myself, he was getting hit a lot and roughed up, his defense was well below his par and he shouldve moved more. to me quite the anamolous performance from him. i get the sense people who scored him the fight were biased by his reputation as a master boxer and saw him doing that when he wasnt close to it there
Maidana 1 was the next closest he was to losing and that was still a clear win for Floyd, he won 5 of the last 6 and at least 2 of the first 6. Maidana was red hot the first half and was actually outjabbing Floyd and winning rounds with non stop and surprisingly effective though crude aggression. Floyd did much betteer when he started moving and keeping it center ring, and also Maiadana gassed a bit from the nonstop output in the first half
Castillo 2 was actually somewhat close I thought for scoring, but Floyd coasted after building a big lead so it didnt really seem that competitive, it wasnt like Castillo was 'taking' the rounds as he did the first fight and floyd always felt in control of what was happening
Oscar was more competitive than most but still well beaten, to me it was similar competiveness to the Cotto fight
Floyd beat Manny anywhere from 8-4 to 10-2
Zab had some really good moments where he was genuinely troubling Floyd and was one of the very few to perhaps out speed and flash him in spurts, but floyd adjusted and won comfortably i though
Canelo totally clowned, people focus on the 114-114 card but the 116-112 cards are very very generous too, if it wasnt a shutout it was very close to it. lol i can imagine in 50 years when young cats talk about the close canelo fight, having obviously only ever read the scores on boxrec
floyd hurt the most vs mosely and corly but beat the crap out of them after, you don't wanna make him angry!

As with many other posters, I reckon Mayweather lost to Castillo.
Mayweather probably won 3, or maybe all 4 of the first 4 Rounds, but after that it was all Castillo, with the exception of the Round where he was docked a point (this was levelled up when Mayweather was docked a point).

Re: Which fights do you think Floyd Mayweather Jr. actually lost?
Yeah! But only those two. Either way I don't argue about his 50-0 sheet. That is just greatness.
Re: Which fights do you think Floyd Mayweather Jr. actually lost?
Oscar controlled him completely. Maidana and Castillo bulled him around in their 1st fights. So 3 losses.

Manny ran away because Floyd asked for a test, and remember that Floyd accepted his ludicrous £10 million dollar per pound weight clause despite never failing to make 147! Manny, never mastered Marquez in 4 fights much less the fundamentally far better floyd!
