I haven't seen many GBP fights lately...so I was wondering? Is their money gone? Is that why Oscar is returning?

I am assuming their lack of cards has more to do with the beef between Golden Boy and DAZN than Golden Boy having financial issues.

I feel the situation is due to a combination of:

• The financial implications of COVID-19 (impossible or impractical to stage events, coupled with losing gate receipt revenue)
• DAZN seeking funding (partially due to losing subscribers resulting from a lack sporting content, as well as operating at a loss pre-coronavirus)
• GBP’s recent claims about DAZN failing to fulfil the terms of their contracts.

The situation has also affected DAZN’s main boxing content provider, Matchroom.

The WBN claims that DAZN are paying Matchroom $7m per event. And despite this, Eddie Hearn openly admits that his recent-four event Fight Camp series was a financial disaster.

There are rumours circulating the web about DAZN seeking to reduce Matchroom US’s budget by 40%, with Eddie Hearn recently conceding to iFL TV that he might only stage three events on US shores before the end of the year.

And let’s not forget that Matchroom’s deal with DAZN commits them to stage 40 events per year, 16 on US soil.

GBP’s own deal with DAZN commits them to staging ten events per year.

Most of the fights in DAZN’s current/recent boxing schedule are/were overseas events, where they were mostly funded by Sky Sports.

Basically, the main reason for this situation is due to a general lack of financial incentives to invest in staging boxing events at this point in time
