Jermell Charlo vs. Jeison Rosario - September 26, 2020
Charlo-Derevyanchenko, Charlo-Rosario On Showtime PPV 9/26
Jermall Charlo and Jermell Charlo will co-headline a Showtime Pay-Per-View broadcast September 26 against two of the toughest opponents in their respective divisions.
Jermall Charlo will defend his WBC middleweight title versus Sergiy Derevyanchenko, the number one contender for his 160-pound crown. His twin brother, Jermell Charlo, will face Jeison Rosario in a 154-pound title unification fight as part of the same six-fight pay-per-view show from Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut.
Showtime announced the Charlo doubleheader Wednesday morning, along with seven other live events it will air either on that premium cable network or on pay-per-view. Each of those cards, starting August 1 and ending December 12, will take place at Mohegan Sun Arena, without fans in attendance due to COVID-19 restrictions.
The Charlo-Derevyanchenko and Charlo-Rosario fights are called the “first main event” and “second main event,” respectively, in Showtime’s official press release. The order of their fights aside, the polarizing Charlo twins will test their boxing abilities against imposing opponents, as well as their drawing power by co-headlining on pay-per-view for the first time.
Charlo-Derevyanchenko and Charlo-Rosario will be packaged with four more fights, most notably an intriguing WBC super bantamweight elimination bout between Daniel Roman (27-3-1, 10 KOs) and Emmanuel Rodriguez (19-1, 12 KOs).
The Charlos’ undercard also will feature Mario Barrios (25-0, 16 KOs), who will defend the WBA world 140-pound championship against Ryan Karl (18-2, 12 KOs), and Brandon Figueroa (20-0-1, 15 KOs), who’ll defend the WBA world super bantamweight championship versus Damien Vazquez (15-1-1, 8 KOs). The September 26 show will include an IBF lightweight elimination match that’ll pit Diego Magdaleno (32-3, 13 KOs) against Isaac Cruz (19-1-1, 14 KOs) as well.
Jermell Charlo, meanwhile, will encounter a hard-hitting opponent who pulled off boxing’s biggest upset of 2020.
Williams was consistently listed as a 30-1 favorite to beat Rosario, but the unknown underdog overwhelmed Williams (27-2-1, 16 KOs, 1 NC). The rugged Rosario hurt and stopped Williams in the fifth round January 18 at Temple University’s Liacouras Center in Philadelphia, Williams’ hometown.
Jermell Charlo regained his WBC 154-pound championship in his last bout by knocking out Tony Harrison (28-3, 21 KOs) in the 11th round of their rematch December 21 at Toyota Arena in Ontario, California. Detroit’s Harrison upset Charlo almost exactly one year earlier by unanimous decision to win that title from Charlo at Barclays Center.

I am disliking Charlo brothers, but Jermell slowly becoming king of light middleweight division. He should handle Rosario too.

Jermell Charlo and Jeison Rosario presser quotes
WBC 154-pound champion Jermell Charlo (pictured) and WBA / IBF 154-pound champion Jeison Rosario previewed their blockbuster unification showdown during a virtual kick-off press conference Tuesday as they near their September 26th pay-per-view battle in an event presented by Premier Boxing Champions. Here is what Charlo, Rosario and their respective trainers had to say on Tuesday:
JERMELL CHARLO:
“I’m stronger and faster than I’ve ever been. Camp has been amazing. I can’t believe I got in shape so fast, but I really never got out of shape. I make investments in myself and I do my homework.
“Congratulations to Rosario for getting the chance to move up to this level. But I know what I possess in the ring when I choose to let it out of me. I’m more ready for this fight than any fight I’ve ever had.
“My legacy is on the line. I feed my family this way. It’s not about what we’re going to say. It’s no secret about how I fight. I’m dangerous and I feel even more dangerous now. I’m excited to go 12 rounds. My capacity and skills are exceeding all of these guys in the division. I’m way hungrier now. The fire has been lit in me.
“A lot of people were surprised Jeison won against Julian Williams, but I actually wasn’t. Williams was dealing with a lot. But I’m a different kind of fighter. My dedication is different than everyone.
“Me and my brother have always been doubted. As I mature, I don’t care about what anyone on the outside says. I don’t care who makes the rankings. My job is to box. That was once my hobby. I’ve been doing this forever and I’ve grown into this. I’m a different animal. Just like Rosario had to come up the levels, I did that as well. I’m maintaining where I’m at because of my hard work and the way I fight. All you have to do is put me out there and I’m going to go get it for you.
“I believe my last two fights and the different styles that Tony Harrison had have helped me. Tony is a great fighter. You look at his record and you know he can punch, but I’m just different. That’s what made me come out on top and made the first fight close. The experience I had in those fights will give me even more of an edge coming into this fight.
“There’s so many things I do that make me believe I’m the best in the division. I can go on and on, but I’m a lion in the cage, let me out and see what happens.
“I’m strong from the first round to the end. If it goes to 12, then it goes that far. I’m smart and know how to set up traps. I’m not going to divulge the game plan, but I’m not playing around in the ring.”
JEISON ROSARIO:
“This is going to be a great war. I’m dedicated and motivated for this fight and I know what it means to face a fighter of Jermell’s quality, so the training has been going great. I’m so ready.
“I am even hungrier now than I was before I won the titles. I’m more motivated. The desire inside of me and the fire inside of me is burning to win this fight against a great fighter in Jermell Charlo. Like the Dominican people say, ‘we have to keep moving forward’ and that’s what I plan to do in this fight.
“Jermell Charlo and Julian Williams are definitely two different types of fighters. I think Williams has a little more quickness but Jermell is definitely stronger and has more power. That’s why I’ve had to prepare a little differently for this fight. In regards to who I feel is the better fighter – I don’t want to take anything away from either guy. Williams was a great fighter and he was considered No. 1 when I fought him, which is now the same position that Jermell Charlo is in. They both have their merits but I wouldn’t say which one is the better fighter. Jermell is considered the best fighter at 154 right now.
“One thing that has changed since my loss to Nathaniel Gallimore in 2017 is my maturity. As the fights get bigger and more important, I definitely stepped up to the occasion and to the challenge. I’m training harder and there is more focus on this fight coming up.
“This fight means a lot to me. It’s definitely the most important fight of my career and I’m very thankful. I’m thankful to my trainer and for this opportunity that’s been given to me to fight the best fighter in the division. This is a great moment and some people think I won’t win. I know it’s going to be electric.
“I consider this to be my time. Empires fall. Presidents fall. Kingdoms fall. It’s all very interesting because under Charlo’s brand, you have the lion and you have the hunter and all that. But during the fight, you’re going to find out who really is the hunter. I’m a warrior and we’re going to see that night who really is the hunter and who is the one that’s going to be hunted.”
DERRICK JAMES, Charlo’s Trainer:
“Training camp has been good. Jermell’s been getting better and better. I’ve been pleased with what I’m seeing and it’s still early in training camp. We’re going to continue to build leading up to the fight. We know we have a very tough guy we’re facing, but I believe everyone we’ve faced is tough. We’re going in there to be at our best.
“I think that the victory would be beautiful, but I’m not thinking about what it would do for me. The best things is what it would mean for Jermell to have three belts. This is about legacy. It’s about a legacy fight for Jermell and myself.
“Rosario is a good fighter. He’s had a gradual progression from when I watched him fight Justin DeLoach and then moving on to fight Williams. He’s getting better. We know what we’re looking at. We know as the champ, he might come in as a different fighter. So we have to be better also. It’s a great challenge but we’re looking forward to it.
“I saw Rosario’s fights before Williams, so I knew he would be tough. I was surprised how it went down because Williams is a strong fighter. But Rosario really showed out and he had the right shots to get him out of there. We expect a great fighter on September 26.”
LUIS “CHIRO” PEREZ, Rosario’s Trainer:
“Training camp has been great. Everything went exactly the way we wanted it to and then some. Even through these times, we were able to do our full training camp the way we wanted it. There have been no obstacles.
“Jeison is stronger and smarter than ever. We’re looking forward to showing that we belong with this competition. We know it’s a tall order against the best 154-pound fighter in the world, but we want his position. He’s the man at this weight class and we want to prove to the world that we belong on that level.
“Jeison had never done a real training camp in his life until recently. He trained any way he could figure out and he would take a lot of last minute fights. That changed for the Williams fight and that’s changed for this fight. Everything he’s overcome, he’s done with desire. He’s doing the proper training camp now and eating the proper way. I think you have to knock Rosario out to beat him. September 26, we’re going to see if I’m right.”

Rosario: Charlo Definitely Stronger Than Williams; Preparing Differently For This Fight
Jeison Rosario refrained from committing to whether he thinks Jermell Charlo is a better fighter than Julian Williams.
The IBF/WBA 154-pound champion considers Charlo and Williams elite-level junior middleweights, each with strengths that make preparing for them complex tasks. Rosario overwhelmed Williams and upset the former champion by fifth-round technical knockout January 18 in Philadelphia, Williams’ hometown.
Williams was a 30-1 favorite to beat Rosario, who was an optional opponent in Williams’ first fight after upsetting previously unbeaten Jarrett Hurd in his prior appearance. Houston’s Charlo (33-1, 17 KOs) is a 4-1 favorite to defeat the Dominican Republic’s Rosario (20-1-1, 14 KOs) in their 154-pound title unification match September 26 at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut.
“They’re different fighters,” Rosario said through a translator Tuesday during a virtual press conference. “In regard to J-Rock, I think he has a little more quickness. But Jermell is definitely stronger, I feel, than J-Rock. But that’s why I had to prepare a little differently this time [for] fighting Jermell Charlo.”
The 30-year-old Williams (27-2-1, 16 KOs, 1 NC) has lost twice inside the distance. Three years before Rosario beat him, Jermall Charlo, Jermell’s twin brother, knocked out Williams in the fifth round of their December 2016 fight for Charlo’s IBF junior middleweight title in Los Angeles.
Jermell Charlo’s lone loss was a closely contested, unanimous-decision defeat to Tony Harrison in their 12-round fight in December 2018 at Barclays Center in Brooklyn. Jermell Charlo won back his WBC super welterweight belt by knocking out Detroit’s Harrison (28-3, 21 KOs) in the 11th round of their rematch last December 21 at Toyota Arena in Ontario, California.
“I don’t wanna take anything away from the fighters,” Rosario said while comparing Jermell Charlo and Williams. “J-Rock was a great fighter. Of course, he was considered number one [at 154 pounds] when I fought him, which is the pedestal that Jermell Charlo’s [on] now, so you know, they both have their merits. I wouldn’t say which one is a better fighter between both of them. But right now, Charlo is considered the best fighter at 154.”
The battle between Charlo, 30, and Rosario, 25, is the second main event of a Showtime Pay-Per-View card September 26. Jermall Charlo (30-0, 22 KOs) will defend his WBC middleweight title versus Ukraine’s Sergiy Derevyanchenko (13-2, 10 KOs) in what’s being billed as the first main event of two three-fight shows that’ll be made available for one price.

I smell a stoppage by Jermell.

Am I the only one rooting for/giving Rosario a chance?

Charlo-Derevyanchenko, Charlo-Rosario: Judges, Refs For Fights
UNCASVILLE, Connecticut – Veteran New Jersey judge Steve Weisfeld will work both title fights involving the Charlo twins in their pay-per-view debuts Saturday night.
Boxing Scene has been informed that Weisfeld, who is widely viewed as one of boxing’s best judges, has been assigned to score the Jermall Charlo-Sergiy Derevyanchenko middleweight title fight, as well as the 154-pound championship unification bout between Jermell Charlo and Jeison Rosario. Nevada’s Tim Cheatham and Oklahoma’s David Sutherland also have been assigned to judge Charlo-Derevyanchenko, a 12-round fight for Charlo’s WBC middleweight title.
Cheatham is generally regarded as a consistently accurate judge as well.
In the biggest fight Sutherland judged recently, he scored Mikey Garcia just a one-point winner over Jessie Vargas (114-113) in their 12-rounder February 29 in Frisco, Texas. The two other judges – Cathy Leonard and Steve Morrow – each scored that fight 116-111 for Garcia.
Sutherland has judged a fight apiece involving Derevyanchenko and Charlo, too.
He had Derevyanchenko ahead, 109-100, before he stopped Tureano Johnson in the 12th round in August 2017. Sutherland later scored Jermall Charlo a 119-109 victor versus Brandon Adams in June 2019.
Both of those scores were in line with how the other judges saw those fights.
New Jersey’s Harvey Dock, who also ranks as one of the sport’s top officials, will be the referee for the Charlo-Derevyanchenko and Charlo-Rosario bouts.
Connecticut’s Glenn Feldman and New York’s John McKaie will join Weisfeld to comprise the judging panel for the Charlo-Rosario fight.
Like McKaie, Feldman is a respected judge, though he did score Rolando Romero a 116-112 winner against Jackson Marinez in their WBA interim lightweight title fight August 15 at Mohegan Sun Arena. Judges Frank Lombardi (118-110) and Don Trella (115-113) also scored that fight for Romero, whose 12-round, unanimous-decision victory caused controversy.
Houston’s Jermall Charlo (30-0, 22 KOs) and Ukraine’s Derevyanchenko (13-2, 10 KOs) will be the main event of Showtime Pay-Per-View’s first three-bout block Saturday night (7 p.m. ET/4 p.m. PT). Houston’s Jermell Charlo (33-1, 17 KOs) and the Dominican Republic’s Rosario (20-1-1, 14 KOs) will fight for Charlo’s WBC and Rosario’s IBF and WBA 154-pound championships in the main event of Showtime’s second three-fight card, which will begin following a 30-minute intermission after the Charlo-Derevyanchenko fight.
The entire six-fight event can be purchased for $74.95.

Harvey Dock ref'ing both fights. I think that's good.
Good judges assigned as well.

Jermell had a really good interview on Pug and Copp this week. Seems like an intelligent and substantive guy. I’m still rooting for Rosario for the upset. Just can’t help myself.

Re: Jermell Charlo vs. Jeison Rosario - September 26, 2020
Top Fighters, Top Trainers Make Their Picks
The highly anticipated pay-per-view doubleheader is the talk of the boxing world and some of the game's finest minds are split on who will emerge victorious. Respondents leaned toward Jermall Charlo to retain his title over Derevyanchenko by a tally of 12 to 8 (with one draw pick) while predictions for Jermell Charlo vs. Jeison Rosario were even tighter, with Charlo edging it out by a total of 15 to 13. Here is what the fighters and trainers had to say:
JERMELL CHARLO VS. JEISON ROSARIO FIGHT PREDICTIONS
Errol Spence Jr., Undefeated Unified Welterweight Champion
Charlo W 12: I like Rosario as a fighter, but I think Jermell is going to beat him. Rosario has been stopped before. He has been hurt before and recently Jermell's been showing knockout power. I feel like if he catches Rosario with a good shot, he could stop him, but I'm going with Charlo by decision.
Shawn Porter, two-time welterweight champion
Charlo late-round TKO: I think that Jermell Charlo is going to win this fight against Jeison Rosario. Rosario is on a winning streak, but Charlo has a mean streak, and that energetic persona works for him.
Knowing that Rosario has been knocked out before, and when you're going up against a heavy-hitter who lands straight punches and a nice jab like Charlo, I have to go with Charlo by late-round stoppage in a firefight.
Anthony Dirrell, former super middleweight champion
Charlo SD 12: Anything can happen, and we know that. Jeison Rosario's mentality in knocking out Julian Williams was unbelievable. But Rosario's not a guy who dances around too much so Jermell's skills and his beast mentality will get him those belts from Rosario. I believe it will be Jermell by a split-decision.
Marcus Browne, former light heavyweight champion
Charlo KO 12: Jermell Charlo is on a roll, but Jeison Rosario is a very tough cookie. Jermell has a lot of momentum coming off of his revenge victory over Tony Harrison, and, for that reason, I believe that he is in a zone. Rosario did stop Julian Williams on a night when he brought his "A-game," and I believe that he can present some issues. But I see a late-round knockout for Jermell.
Herman Caicedo, trainer of heavyweight contender Luis Ortiz and former bantamweight champion Juan Carlos Payano
Rosario W 12: Jeison Rosario is sharper and more powerful with his punches and shows a level of calmness beyond his years. I believe he will defeat Jermell Charlo and maybe even earn a late stoppage.
Chris Colbert, Undefeated interim WBA Super Featherweight Champion
Charlo KO 10: I believe that Jermell Charlo versus Jeison Rosario will be a tough fight for the first three or four rounds, but that Jermell's clean power-punching will be too much and Rosario will get caught with a vicious shot and be knocked out cold.
Nonito Donaire, former four-division world champion
Charlo KO 8: Jermell Charlo is in against one hell of a fighter in Jeison Rosario, who is big and tough and will make it a dogfight. But I think that over the distance, Jermell will start to catch up to him and win by eighth-round knockout.
Luis Ortiz, heavyweight contender
Rosario W 12: I think that Jeison Rosario will win this fight against Jermell Charlo. Rosario is bigger, stronger, has better punch placement and lands with harder shots. I believe that he will win a decision, if not by early knockout or TKO. It's a life-changing event and Rosario won't waste this opportunity.
Tony Harrison, former super welterweight champion
Charlo UD 12: As much as I don't like Jermell Charlo, he gained my respect in our two fights. Charlo's facing a guy in Jeison Rosario who is game and very motivated after knocking out Julian Williams. I think it's going to be a tight fight, and I think each of them can be hurt at one point, but I see Charlo winning by a unanimous decision.
Jorge Cota, super welterweight contender
Rosario KO 10: I know both Jeison Rosario and Jermell Charlo because I fought both of them, losing a split-decision to Rosario and being knocked out in third round by Charlo by a punch that I didn't see coming.
But even though my fight went the distance against Rosario, I felt the power of every single punch he threw, whether it was on the arms, the shoulders, the chest, the stomach or the head.
I never really felt Charlo's power until he caught me with that one punch. So with that in mind, I believe that Rosario will do similar damage to Charlo, wearing him down before finally stopping him in around the 10th round.
Erislandy Lara, WBA Super Welterweight Champion
Charlo KO 11: Jermell Charlo will be too much for Jeison Rosario because he is the better boxer. The fight will be competitive until the later rounds, when Jermell will score a knockout. I don't see this fight going the distance. Jermell by 11th round knockout.
Sebastian Fundora, undefeated super welterweight contender
Rosario late-round KO: I believe that styles make fights, and that their styles are perfect for one of them to be knocked out. But I think that Jeison Rosario has the edge over Jermell Charlo, and that it will be Rosario who delivers the knockout in the later rounds.
Andre Dirrell, Olympic Bronze Medalist and veteran contender
Charlo KO 10: I believe that Jermell Charlo will come out of this with a knockout victory over Jeison Rosario, who will bring it, but Jermell will have all the answers and make the adjustment. I'm looking for Jermell to win by ninth or 10th round-knockout.
Danny Roman, former unified super bantamweight champion
Rosario KO 10: Jermell Charlo versus Jeison Rosario is going to be a war that I don't think will go the full 12 rounds. I believe that Rosario will win by 10th-round knockout.
Stephen Edwards, trainer of former super welterweight champion Julian Williams
Charlo TKO 6: Jermell Charlo versus Jeison "Banana" Rosario is a tough fight to assess. I think Rosario is the better boxer. Jermell looks like the better boxer because he can use his legs and he has a good jab. But Jermell's not hard to hit and he's been out-boxed for long stretches by Tony Harrison, John Jackson and Demetrius Hopkins.
Rosario has some skillful moves - except he just comes forward. But Jermell is clutch and he has an elite chin also. I also believe Rosario loses steam after six rounds. So, look for Jermell to clip him late in a great fight. Jermell by TKO.
Kenny Porter, trainer of two-time welterweight champion Shawn Porter
Charlo KO 10: I think Jermell Charlo will win this fight by stoppage against Jeison Rosario, and I'm thinking that it will be a knockout in the ninth or 10th round.
Javier Fortuna, former two-division world champion
Rosario KO 7: I have no doubt that Jeison "Banana" Rosario will defeat Jermell Charlo and make history for the Dominican Republic. I believe that Rosario will do to Charlo what he did to Julian Williams, but that Charlo will be knocked out cold.
Kevin Cunningham, trainer of super welterweight contender Erickson Lubin
Charlo KO 8: Somebody is getting knocked out in the Jermell Charlo versus Jeison Rosario fight, and I'm picking Charlo to win a shootout. I believe that Charlo's athleticism will give him the edge over Rosario, and I think he'll stop Rosario in the eighth round.
Juan Carlos Payano, former world bantamweight champion
Rosario W 12: I believe that Jeison Rosario is going to win against Jermell Charlo. It's Jeison's time, and he won't waste it. Jeison is bigger and stronger and will walk down Charlo.
Rolando Romero, undefeated interim WBA Lightweight Champion
Charlo KO 9: Jermell Charlo versus Jeison Rosario is going to be a dogfight over the first half of the fight, but I think that as it goes on, Jermell's just going to crack him. I think it will be a late-round knockout, probably in the eighth or the ninth.
Michel Rivera, undefeated lightweight contender
Rosario W 12: Jeison Rosario is my pick against Jermell Charlo. From the heart and from the head, Rosario is better at power punching and very poised in all situations. Rosario by decision or by early knockout.
Jesus Ramos, undefeated welterweight contender
Charlo TKO 10: I see Jermell Charlo boxing a little smarter than Jeison Rosario and taking him into deep waters with his experience. It's a been there done that situation for him.
Amilcar Vidal, undefeated middleweight prospect
Rosario TKO 10: I believe that Jeison Rosario against Jermell Charlo will be a very entertaining fight, but it's also the biggest of Rosario's career. For that reason, I believe that Rosario will be at his best and win by knockout in the later round, perhaps by 10th-round TKO.
Andre Rozier, trainer of middleweight contender Sergiy Derevyanchenko and former middleweight champion Daniel Jacobs
Rosario W 12: This is a very intriguing bout. Jeison Rosario is a big 154-pounder, as is Jermell Charlo. They both have good punching power. But It will come down to a battle of wills, and I'm seeing the hunger of Jeison being a stronger force. Jeison by decision.
Carlos Negron, heavyweight contender
Rosario KO 10: Jermell Charlo is very skilled, but Jeison Rosario is the harder, sharper puncher. As long as Rosario doesn't get surprised with a shot, he will win by knockout in the later rounds.
Charles Mooney, Olympic Silver Medalist and trainer of middleweight contender Matt Korobov
Rosario SD 12: If Jermell Charlo's mind isn't right, he can leave a lot of openings for Jeison Rosario to capitalize on and walk away with the championships. Rosario's a tough guy, so I'm leaning toward him to win a tough, close fight by split-decision.
Caleb Truax, former super middleweight champion
Charlo KO 9: I think that Jeison Rosario may give Jermell Charlo some problems early due to the fact that he's a big 154-pounder with good power, but I think that Jermell's general experience, punching power, accuracy and ability to come on in the later rounds will enable him to stop Rosario in the eighth or ninth round.
Eduardo Ramirez, featherweight contender
Rosario KO 9: Jeison Rosario is a younger, newer champion and more motivated fighter than Jermell Charlo. I have no doubt that he is the stronger more powerful fighter and that he will win by a late-round knockout.

I think Charlo will win by KO. Rosario doesn't have great defensive skills but he is awkward. He will get tagged at some point, but he has enough firepower to push Charlo way out of his comfort zone.
Re: Jermell Charlo vs. Jeison Rosario - September 26, 2020
A good fight, competetive, with plently of action. Rosario pressed the fight and had his moments, but Charlo's power was too much for him, Charlo was landing the biggest shots through the bout. Actually, the first KD was arguable, Charlo hit the temple, while it also looked like Rosario's right foot slipped on the course of moving backwards. The second KD was hard though, Rosario was saved by the bell then. And, of course, the body punch, which ended everything, was impressive.
There are some really good matchups for Charlo now. Lara, Hurd or the unification bout against Teixeira, which gotta be the easiest out of these three. Hopefully he fight someone of them next.

Jeison Rosario Released From Hospital, Returns To The Dominican Republic
Sampson Lewkowicz was worried early Sunday morning about the former champion he promotes.
Jeison Rosario felt dizzy and nauseous after Jermell Charlo stopped him with a jab to the body early in the eighth round of their 154-pound title unification fight at Mohegan Sun Arena. Rosario got the wind knocked out of him and his body convulsed after he fell flat on his back.
He eventually attempted to get up, but he fell into the ropes. That’s when referee Harvey Dock stopped their scheduled 12-round fight 21 seconds into the eighth round.
The former IBF/WBA champion had a difficult time simply standing up after suffering that third knockdown and had to be helped from the ring to his dressing room.
Rosario, 25, was transported by ambulance to a nearby hospital, where he underwent an MRI, EKG and other tests. Doctors didn’t detect anything wrong with him and released Rosario on Sunday morning, which enabled him to fly home to the Dominican Republic.
“He is OK, thank God,” Lewkowicz told Boxing Scene. “The way he went down from that punch, and how he was convulsing on the canvas, it was scary to see that. It was a very tough fight. But he is OK. That is the most important thing.”
Houston’s Charlo (34-1, 18 KOs) knocked down Rosario (20-2-1, 14 KOs) three times, once apiece in the first, sixth and eighth rounds of their Showtime Pay-Per-View main event.
Charlo’s left hand grazed the top of Rosario’s head, which knocked him off balance and down to the canvas less than a minute into the opening round. A left hook by Charlo caught Rosario flush, hurt him badly and sent him down again, this time with a few seconds to go in the sixth round.
Rosario recovered during a seventh round in which he didn’t throw many punches. When Charlo connected with what seemed like a jab to the body to set up another punch early in the eighth round, however, Rosario went down for the third time and was unable to continue.

Re: Jermell Charlo vs. Jeison Rosario - September 26, 2020
Members of the boxing community lept to the defense of Jeison Rosario this week after questions of whether he ‘nodded off’ in the corner of a Pay Per View.
Fans took to social media to claim Rosario ‘took a dive’ due to the nature of his defeat to Jermell Charlo on Showtime PPV.
But looking closer, Charlo landed with pinpoint accuracy. Rosario doubled up in pain.
Promoter Michelle’ Raging Babe’ Rosado then felt compelled to fight Rosario’s corner after the criticism hit the next level.

Re: Jermell Charlo vs. Jeison Rosario - September 26, 2020
Good competitive fight after a torrid start for Rosario, decked from a left hook which glanced the top of his head in the 1st, took his legs rigt away from him, after that it was close stuff, both men happy to trade leather, Rosario forcing the action and Jermell happy to fight on the back foot, some hard punches landed from both guys, Jermell had Rosario down again in the 6th, a left hook wobbled the legs again and a right helped him on his way down
The finish in the 8th was bizarre,, Jermell doubling up the jab to head then body, the shot downstairs took every bit of breath from Rosario's lungs and he looked in distress as he was counted out, must've been a sickener
