Bob Arum IFL interview

Post by TheGman »

Here he talks about no one in the uk picking up loma vs lopez but they charge us for drub like uszyk vs chisora, saying every bit of a decent fight sky and hearn throw it on ppv, thought it was worth sharing for all who hasnt seen it.
Maybe if we all didnt buy the shyte then hearn and sky wouldnt put it on.

Teo vs. Loma should be end up somewhere..

It's gonna be completely free in the US..

We deserve it at daft o'clock for free as well, no extra cost.

Or well, a subscription service.

I would hate if it ended up on FITE tv

All well and good moaning Sky didn’t pick up an Arum fight when he spends half his time slagging off Matchroom and Sky.

His good friend allegedly and BT haven’t picked it up either.

Hearn did numerous interviews in rebuttal to Arum while in quarantine after testing positive for COVID-19. His strongest response to Arum came while talking to iFL TV.

“Bob says whatever suits Bob at the time,” said Hearn to iFL. “Bob’s sulking because he couldn’t find a customer. That’s basically what happened. On the one hand, Bob says Sky does too many pay-per-views, and blah, blah, blah, and he pitched to Sky, Terence Crawford vs. Kell Brook on pay-per-view. So on one hand, he’s accusing these people of doing too many pay-per-views, but on the other hand, he’s trying to sell them a pay-per-view. I don’t really understand that. So I rejected that fight, and he was pissed off.”

From Hearn’s perspective, Arum is disgruntled that he couldn’t make a deal with Sky Sports on two fights, including Lomachenko vs. Lopez. Hearn also said he made Arum and offer for Lomachenko vs. Lopez to appear on Sky Sports, but Arum “didn’t think it was a very good offer.”

Hearn admitted that Lomachenko vs. Lopez is a great fight, but it’s not that marketable in the U.K. because it would air at 4 a.m. BST. He’s got a point there.

Who’s in the right, Arum or Hearn? It all depends on your perspective, but the theater of drama between Arum and Hearn makes for good promotion and further hypes Lomachenko vs. Lopez, although it doesn’t need it. Lomachenko vs. Lopez is one of the best matchups of 2020.

Interesting that Hearn called out Smith and Macklin on their biased commentary. Wasn't sure if he was trolling or being serious?

wow, it's almost as though Eddeh is admitting that he gets to decide what fights Sky show?

don't they have, like, a Head of Boxing, or some similar figure who could make those decisions? or is he too busy pursuing ancient grudges and vendettas fighting unknown travellers bareknuckle in disused aircraft hangars and empty carparks?

He kind of does to an extent. He’s been given an allocation of money to spend on fights that I would guess would then still need to be approved by Sky (at least main events). Eddie made an offer from his allocation that was rejected and perhaps Sky didn’t think it was worth giving him more money to be able to offer.

Ultimately Sky was the only channel to make an offer and Bob turned it down to go PPV in this country.

Head of Boxing is Adam Smith..

But Hearn has an exclusive contract with Sky doesn't he. Meaning as per contract, wouldn't Sky need his permisison if they were to show any other boxing cards on Sky?

To be honest, I always thought Sky themselves would deal with anything if it was abroad. The exclusive deal was surely only UK based promotions.

He’s probably not used to it. I doubt he’d have watched that back if he was at the show.

Whilst I don’t agree that his fighter deserved to win (or draw) I do agree the some of the Sky commentators seem to have an opinion on a fight and stick to it regardless of what happens.

I left years ago as well and have never missed it. Adam Smith genuinely makes fights unwatchable.

Going by their recent bills I don’t feel I’ve missed much. Chisora v Usyk being PPV is fornicating criminal

Cancelled Sky Sports a while back. May do NowTV sports for a month in Dec for darts. Used to love BocksNation but cancelled that when BT thing happened. Sky even without sports is expensive enough.
