Below cruiserweight fighter who could compete as a heavyweight.

Post by Winter king »

A lot of people have opinions like size doesnt matter that much or we keep hearing that weight classes exist for a reason and these statements all have elements of truth but who do you guys think could actaully compete with heavyweights below 200lbs?

A bit of an obvious answer: Briedis. He knocked ranked heavyweight Charr spark out.

Remember not that long ago charles Martin held a hw belt

Is this a topic that is typically brought up weekly here orbis just because of covid lag? Like for christ sake make a subsection where this can be argued to death by 5 people

I'd assume he meant fighters who are lhws are below

There have been some who moved up to hw with various degrees of success, not sure anyone atm particularly stands out in terms of being a guy who could make the transition well

It brings to mind a previous discussion here or another forum about how floyd would do at hw, i think there were some picks from good, serious posters that he'd outbox/speed big but not so fast guys like Helenius

It's easier to imagine slicksters like Ward doing more or less better at the HW. Canelo has become quite slick too, but will his footwork be good enough? How it and his speed will change with bulking up? Anyway, I can imagine some 6'5'' and 250 lbs Martin trying to overpower Canelo inside and eating a liver shot.

Beterbiev could probably hang with non-overly-gigantic heavys.

Beterbiev sounds as a good pick indeed. 6'0, strong, hard-hitting. Probably Kovalev could too, but not today, as now he already has troubles competing as a LHW.

I know I create a lot of threads, but you're saying that to me as if this was my thread, and I moved the goal posts.

Any CW can complete above 200.

Like Bellew said, Cruiserweights are basically HW's that HAVE TO make weight.

Buatsi in the future... Maybe... Possibly (not sure how successful he'd be). 6'2" decently athletic, but very much a work in progress, and he'd be a very small Heavyweight. Not sure he'd beat a legit top 20 guy though

What about Bivol?

He lacks power, but he has good ring generalship and would be too mobile for many heavies. Of course if they catch him it could easily be over, but if he could use his relative youth and mobility....

He could also put on a few lbs for the fight and not lose any mobility over 12.

Tristan Kalkreuth.

He's only 18 and stands 6'4" and can punch.

Light-heavy to Cruiserweight is quite a jump these days never mind heavyweight. Moore was a light-heavy who moved up to heavyweight but he fought Marciano who was around 185 lbs. Today's top heavyweights are more like 250 which is an enormous challenge for any man who can make 175.

If Canelo was to fight a huge but modestly talented heavyweight, would he not be better served by not trying to bulk up because he would still be at a massive weight disadvantage, but potentially burdened in terms of speed and stamina, if he did?
