After losing to Trinidad.I even heard him allude to it in an interview. He was still young and strong, but it messed up his confidence.

Like 28 or 29 I think he was. But he had tough fights from a young age didn’t he.dagosd2000 wrote: ↑05 Oct 2020, 13:05 After losing to Trinidad.I even heard him allude to it in an interview. He was still young and strong, but it messed up his confidence.

I really thought that after he beat Whitaker that Oscar might reach the atmosphere of the all time greats. At that point I had him ahead of Manny and Floyd. I remember when he lost to Trinidad and he's walking back to the dressing room carrying on.
"I out boxed him in the last two rounds. That's all I had to do to win.Didn't they see that?"
And on and on and on. Oscar was trying to convince himself and everyone else, but he was masking his personal trepidations. He knew he blew it because he couldn't dig down deep and seal the deal.He was trying to sell us an excuse but no one was buying.Instead, then going through a plethora of different trainers to give him the answer he should have gone to a shrink.

Around 1999/2000. Probably the Mosley loss was the absolute end of the peak.

He had some good wins after the 1st Mosley loss. I actually thought he won the second fight but that was the last time he looked like an elite fighter. He should not have gotten the Sturm decision, got stopped by Hopkins and the rest is history
