That bout against Moreno was a long sparring session to guarantee Charlie a +1, one of the most forgettable main events I have witnessed on DAZN.

A totally washed-up John Ruiz against David Haye.

It was nice to see Haye hopping around and dismantling Ruiz

Yes! You beat me to it. Total crock of sh1t a paper title fight. Arthur vs Martinez could have been a decent fight if Arthur won though.

Isn't it interesting that literally all of the fights mentioned are from the 1990s or later.

The WBO, and the promoters who favoured the WBO, really devalued world championship boxing.

Yeah I still don’t rate that belt as highly. Mind you they’ve all gone down over the past few years

Steve Robert's v Troy Lowry. I've still got the poster advertising it as world championship boxing.

Dave McAuley had a couple of poor ones, can’t remember their surnames but one was called Pedro and another called Curtis

Mismatches aside, I’d say these were two very poor quality fights:

Bruno v McCall & Rees v M’baye

In both cases the Brit overachiever boxes well during the first half, then when they ran out of gas or ideas, held for dear life vs the visiting world champion.

Welsh wizard Howard Winstone and Japan's Mitsunori Seki met for the vacant WBC featherweight title at the Albert Hall in 1968 but both men had been chewed up by Mexico's Vicente Saldivar in previous world title challenges (Winstone three times; Seki twice) and were shadows of their former selves. Winstone won unconvincingly on cuts in nine rounds and lost the title in his first defence to Jose Legra. Seki never fought again.

He boxed Jimmy Anderson in a 10 rounder and got floored in the process to a points win.

Mind you, Winstone vs Anderson would qualifiy for a WBC super title these days! :yay:

Yes, Jimmy Anderson was a really good fighter and I wonder what he is doing nowadays. He was one of Terry Lawless' first fighters.

Louis Curtis and Pedro Feliciano. To be fair to McAuley, he was tied to Mickey Duff after upsetting Duke McKenzie to win the IBF flyweight title. Duff had options on him and McAuley's first defence came at Wembley against southpaw Filipino Dodie Penalosa, who limped his way to the ring after a childhood bout with polio and proved a massive disappoinment as a former double world champion. It didn't get much better for McAuley, although nobody can take away his knockout win over Baby Jake Matlala, even though Jake was a blown-up light-flyweight.

Is that when Cook’s back was injured and the fight ended pretty much immediately? If it was in the ExCel in London then I think I might’ve been there.

Probably Glenn McCrory vs Patrice Lubumba now I have had a good think about it - Lubumba wasn't really all what he was cracked up to be* and he was something like 9-3, McCrory deserved his title shot but how long would he have hung around with Holyfield if he had kept his IBF title.

Sammy Reeson vs DeLeon - Reeson wasn't prepared and he got belted around in a pretty one sided affair before he collapsed to the canvas in exhaustion - again, he deserved his shot but wasn't prepared, according to an interview with Buncey, he was 17 stone and sipping margaritas two months previously - which would explain it.

Nelson vs DeLeon was a good fight on paper and plenty thought Nelson would win but he just froze. it happens I suppose

* He beat both Jeff Lampkin and Alfonzo Ratliff in America - fornicate knows how based on his showing vs McCrory. He probably deserved his title shot more so than McCrory on those two back to back victories

Nathan Cleverly had some dull WBO light heavy defences (Krasniqi, Karpency, Kuziemski). Wasn't he the only UK champ at some point if I remember correctly? If so this was a bad era for British boxing.

The Nathan Cleverly days were dire. Didn't he first win a 'WBO interim world title'? I'd rather win a fiver on the scratch cards.
