Press Release

Undefeated sensation Paddy Donovan will have a big step up in competition as he takes on former Southern Area champion Jumanne Camero on next month’s huge #MTKFightNight event.

Undefeated sensation Paddy Donovan will have a big step up in competition as he takes on former Southern Area champion Jumanne Camero on next month’s huge #MTKFightNight event.

Limerick hero Donovan had looked superb in his career so far, racking up three knockouts in four wins, with the most recent of those coming in August when he needed just 91 seconds to earn a first-round knockout victory over Des Newton.

He now turns his attention to Camero, who won the Southern Area lightweight title back in 2017, and Donovan is pleased about the step up.

Donovan said: “I’m really excited to be back in the ring, and especially on an MTK Global show. They always put on world-class events with world-class fighters, and that’s where I want to be fighting.

“Jumanne Camero seems to be a decent fighter with 10 wins from 16 fights, and he will be my toughest challenge to date. My training is going really well, and I’m feeling perfect. I’m sure his style of fighting will bring the best out of me, and I’ll put on one hell of a show come November 11th.”

Promoter Lee Eaton added: “We’re delighted to be working with our friends at Top Rank to get Paddy Donovan on our huge show next month. He’s had a perfect start to his career, and now faces a big test against Jumanne Camero.

“Donovan looks destined for big things in the sport and has a great trainer in his corner in Andy Lee. Camero is a former Southern Area champion, though, so it’s set to be an inspiring fight.”

It’s part of a huge bill on Wednesday, 11 November, which features Lee McGregor challenging Karim Guerfi for the EBU bantamweight title, plus Kazakh star Tursynbay Kulakhmet having his first fight in the UK.

Elsewhere on the card, Sultan Zaurbek takes on Jeff Ofori, Hassan Azim makes his professional debut, Inder Bassi faces Jack Martin, and Sahir Iqbal returns.

Paddy Donovan Aims To Win World Title Within Three Years

Irish sensation Paddy Donovan has set himself the target of becoming world champion within three years – ahead of his battle with former Southern Area champion Jumanne Camero on next month’s MTK Fight Night event.

Limerick hero Donovan (4-0, 3 KOs) will face Camero (10-6, 3 KOs) at Production Park Studios in Wakefield on Wednesday 11 November, live in the US on ESPN+ in association with Top Rank, and worldwide on IFL TV.

Donovan has looked superb since making his debut in October 2019, and the 21-year-old has some big ambitions in mind prior to the toughest test of his career so far against Camero.

Donovan said: “My aim is to win a world title by the age of 24, which is in 3 years time, so I want to move nice and fast and build my record.

“I don’t want to go up against guys I’m supposed to knock out, I want to do so against good fighters that will bring the very best Paddy Donovan out of me.

“I’m starting to get a lot of people talking about me. Coming up to my last fight there was nobody in Ireland that wanted to to spar me at my weight class, and then I was very pleased with the win I got over Des Newton and the fashion I did it in.”

Elsewhere on next month’s card, British and Commonwealth bantamweight champion Lee McGregor challenges Karim Guerfi for the EBU bantamweight title, Tursynbay Kulakhmet goes up against Macaulay McGowan for the vacant WBC International super-welterweight title, Sultan Zaurbek returns, Hassan Azim makes his professional debut, and Jack Martin faces Inder Bassi

Jack Rafferty vs. Tom Hill on Nov 11th – MTK Fight Night

Tom Hill insists the slight delay in his battle with Jack Rafferty will not prevent him from earning the victory when they meet on Wednesday’s huge #MTKFightNight event.

Former Northern Area title challenger Hill (9-1, 2 KOs) faces unbeaten Rafferty (12-0, 7 KOs) in a welterweight battle at Production Park Studios in Wakefield, live in the US on ESPN+ in association with Top Rank, and worldwide on IFL TV.

The two men were due to meet last month before a positive COVID-19 test for Hill postponed the battle, but he’s once again fighting fit and ready to secure the win.

Hill said: “I was absolutely gutted thinking I might have lost my chance to get my name out there and there was nothing I could do about it, so I’m very happy to get this fight back on.

“I didn’t expect to be out so soon afterwards. I was thinking it would be December or maybe even next year. I had to isolate at home so I was stuck in the house until the 27th which wasn’t ideal, but I picked up where I left off in the gym and I’ll be ready come fight night.

“My mindset never changed. I’ve got tunnel vision on what I’m going to achieve and I’ve got to come through this fight to push onto the next stage of my career.”

The superb battle between Jack Rafferty and Tom Hill has been rescheduled for the upcoming #MTKFightNight event on Wednesday 11 November.

The show takes place at Production Park Studios in Wakefield, and will be broadcast live in the US on ESPN+ in association with Top Rank, and worldwide on IFL TV.

It sees Rafferty (12-0, 7 KOs) and Hill (9-1, 2 KOs) finally square off, after the bout was forced to be postponed earlier this month due to a positive COVID-19 test for Hill.

Promoter Lee Eaton said: “We’re delighted to reschedule this fantastic fight between Jack Rafferty and Tom Hill for our stacked MTK Fight Night event on Wednesday 11 November.

“It was a huge shame when the fight couldn’t take place on our October 18 event, but thankfully we haven’t had to wait long for it to be re-booked, and it’s a testament to both men for their willingness to jump back in so soon after the original date.

“It’s the latest addition to what is already a tremendous bill full of talented stars, and we can’t wait to see it all unfold next month.”

Shaw boxer Jack Rafferty is excited to test his skills against a dangerous opponent when he goes up against Tom Hill on Sunday’s must-see #MTKFightNight event.

It will be the first eight-round fight of Rafferty’s career, and he’s looking forward to challenging himself against an opponent that will be coming to win.

Rafferty said: “I cannot wait to be back in that ring. I can’t thank MTK Global enough for getting me a fight under these circumstances as there are many boxers out there wanting to be in my position.

“This is definitely my hardest fight to date. I think it will bring the best out in me as he is coming to win. In some of the fights I have been in they have just wanted to survive the fight. I know he is a tall boxer with the height and reach and can mix it up, so I know it will be an exciting fight as we will both be on our game.

“My trainer Steve Maylett has gone through this already when Liam Taylor fought at this venue, so he knows the set up and how it runs, so it will make the experience a little smoother.

“When I win this fight I would like to be out again hopefully before the end of the year if possible. I want to keep climbing up the rankings and maybe get a 10 round fight or a title shot if possible.”

Tom Hill: I’m hungry for this opportunity

Tom Hill feels the loss he suffered earlier in his career has helped him become better than ever for his showdown with Jack Rafferty on Sunday’s huge #MTKFightNight event.

After tasting defeat last year, Hill feels rejuvenated, and believes it has been a blessing in disguise ahead of the battle with Rafferty.

Hill said: “I don’t know a great deal about Rafferty. I’ve seen a few fights on YouTube and that’s about it. He looks a decent kid so I’m expecting a good fight.

“I can’t take too much from the fights I’ve seen of him because he’ll be a different fighter when he has someone like me in front of him.

“I’ve got the loss on my record, but I learnt a lot more from that one loss than I’ve learnt in my full professional career and I genuinely believe it will turn out to be the best thing that could’ve happened to me.

“It will be a weird experience fighting in front of no fans, but that could be a good thing as I’ll be able to hear my coach throughout. It won’t be the same without everyone there supporting me though.

“With a win here, I want to be on more big fight cards, get some even bigger fights and win titles. That’s what we’re all in the sport for.”

Elsewhere on Wednesday’s card, Tursynbay Kulakhmet goes up against Macaulay McGowan for the vacant WBC International super-welterweight title, Paddy Donovan meets Jumanne Camero, Hassan Azim makes his professional debut against MJ Hall, Inder Bassi faces Jack Martin, Lewie Edmondson returns, and Danny Murrell enters the paid ranks for the first time.

Paddy put in a performance of the night..

MTK has been decent since lockdown, but this card, not so much.

May have helped to have McGregor-Guefri on the card, but that was called off.
