He was entertaining.

His cruiserweight achievements were quite impressive, he's a one of the best cruiserweights ever. I'd say, he is #3, after Holy and Usyk.

However, despite his not fully realized potential at the HW, he had a memorable career there too. I was happy, when he sent a one of the most disgraceful HW champions back to the circus and whooped his rival afterwards, sending him to the retirement as well.

I was rooting for Haye against Klitschko and was upset, after he lost in a one-sided fashion.

His beef with was Chisora fun to watch, as well as the fight itself. It was a one of the best HW fights of the previous decade.

Haye was an excellent boxer with solid skills, great speed and elusiveness. He only was fragile, that's why his career was so short.

Yeah, all of the above. Haye's the same age (ish- I'm younger)as me and was the only fighter I've ever followed like a football team before I became a boxing forum cynic. The latter part of his career was a piss take and a cash grab, but he made a lot of money, and achieved an awful lot through his career as a whole. And he was a fun watch.

Saying that, I met him once briefly, and I didn't like him. Not that that has any bearing on his standing as a fighter, These guys assault each other for a living so I don't think you should be surprised that a professional fighter might not be the nicest person on Earth.

I like Haye.
Sure there have been bumps along the way. His last two fights tarnished his career a bit, but good on him for cashing out well.
A decent cruiser, and a reasonable heavy at the time of Wlad.

It does seem like a lifetime ago. What a sh1t fight that was.

I was a big fan of his early in his career, and my wife and I seen pretty much all his fights up to his loss against Thompson .. we had tickets but last minute couldn't go.
Unfortunately at heavyweight he will ultimately be remembered as a joke because of his big empty promises and excuses.
Further down the line his legacy will be the guy who lost twice to Bellew; how cruel is that for a genuinely good fighter!

I'd have to wonder who has the more impressive bank balance between Haye and Chisora. Chisora's been a very shrewd fighter over the years and has a business brain outside boxing, whereas Haye seems the type to have spunked everything he's ever earned up the wall.

It's a relatively young division, especially at 200. Haye ranks quite highly for me under those terms, where so many historical heavies aren't counted. And I always include the massive proviso that a big part of this view stems from what I feel he could've achieved as a career cruiser, because I always felt that heavy was a mistake for him.

A lot of us were just tired of Wlad at the time, so I think there was an element of hoping for the best with Haye, even if you didn't like him.
