Round-by-Round: Vasyl Lomachenko vs. Teofimo Lopez - October 17, 2020
Re: Round-by-Round: Vasyl Lomachenko vs. Teofimo Lopez - October 17, 2020
Firstly, wow. Did not expect such a muted performance from Loma. Lopez was extremely composed and to put it bluntly, for the first 6 rounds Loma was fighting scared. Very disappointing. Down the stretch Loma showed moments of brilliance and I thought he also showed he was the better skilled fighter however he had given away too many rounds. I had it 7-5 Lopez whom rightfully deserved the win. At the end of the day it's boxing, you can't win round when you throw nothing.

Lopez is a great counter puncher and equally fast. That shocked loma, I think Lopez won the fight with how close he came on missed shots early and straight up outballing loma in the 12th.lazboy wrote: ↑18 Oct 2020, 02:31 Firstly, wow. I don't mean to dismiss what Lopez did in the ring. Agree that he is great counter puncher and you can clearly see he has a big right, but it kept Loma more than just honest, he was extremely timid in there and wasn't able to throw hands. Very unusual. Seemed to me he was completely unprepared both physically and mentally. Or Lopez is that good. Just Loma doing next to nothing seemed so strange.Onetimeonly wrote: ↑18 Oct 2020, 02:35Lopez is a great counter puncher and equally fast. Combo of both I'd say, I'd think loma would pursue a rematch. I had the right winner but nowhere near what I expected. Teo was tired but really dangerous and then just outgutted him.lazboy wrote: ↑18 Oct 2020, 02:42I don't mean to dismiss what Lopez did in the ring. If loma wants get back he has to go to war and really drown him late like he wanted too tonight. Be in constant danger, but he could do it.

Credit to you and Thatcher for your predictions. You've both been vocal on this pick for a long time now. Well done. I'd be keen to see a rematch...some intrigue for it already in my opinion.

Nice win for Teo but Loma is far from finished if he decides to continue fighting. His 14-month layoff probably contributed to his slow start.

I'm more proud of myself if I'm wrong and predicted how I could be. I damn sure didn't expect Lopez to outbox him. I did expect his speed and timing to fornicate with him. Anyway, I'll take it, thank you. I'd watch a rematch in a second, or Haney or berch/Valdez winner.lazboy wrote: ↑18 Oct 2020, 02:57Completely agree.Onetimeonly wrote: ↑18 Oct 2020, 02:49Combo of both I'd say, I'd think loma would pursue a rematch. Lopez has incredible self belief, you can tell the difference between talking shit and confidence. Obviously you need the talent to go with it, but that might be his most impressive quality.
Re: Round-by-Round: Vasyl Lomachenko vs. Teofimo Lopez - October 17, 2020
Ward's card was the best. Rewatched the fight and now I have only more confidence with an opinion, that it was just a very close bout. Lopez didn't win all early rounds. The 2nd one was Loma's. Since the 7th Loma took over, but lost the 12th.
The 3rd and the 7th were the closest rounds, the most difficult to score.
If Canelo had such fight and fought like Loma, he would have been awarded a win.

Re: Round-by-Round: Vasyl Lomachenko vs. Teofimo Lopez - October 17, 2020
Teddy Atlas - Again what fighters do inside that ring is gallant and Noble. What the judges do outside it is anything but. Tired of saying it, and sick of seeing it. Again I have no problem with fight going to Lopez, he earned it, but Loma did not deserve to hear the scores that wide.
Mike Tyson - Brooklyn was definitely in the house tonight. Lopez is the man to beat. Another Brooklyn champion.
Manny Pacquiao - Congratulations to Teofimo Lopez for an undisputed great performance.
Ryan Garcia - I got my fight against Luke Campbell but I would love to fight Lopez, there is still a lot of unanswered questions in this lightweight division
Eddie Hearn - Just woke up..Lopez wow!!!
Jamel Herring - We’re not going to do this... say what you want about the SCORES, but the RIGHT man won. It was a good fight.
Roman Gonzalez - Congratulations on your great victory, you showed your quality and boxing intelligence. Long live Central America. Blessings
Errol Spence - Thanks Teo congrats!
Enzo Maccarinelli - Lopez was brilliant,I’d like to see it again though. Loma being out for a year at his age especially as his main attributes are supreme distance and timing could’ve played a massive part in his inability to start working before 7rds or Lopez could’ve just have his number
Terence Crawford - I been telling Top Rank for years Teofimo Lopez was ready. Good job young fella we been talking about this day for years
Kell Brook - What a fighter! You did exactly what you told me you were gonna do. Enjoy the moment
Michael Conlan - Just to big and strong!! I thought Loma would be good enough to grind out the win but Teofimo was brilliant tonight. Well deserved champ, youngest four belt champ in history

In vintage fashion, worst comment belongs to Atlas. Two of the judges saw the fight I saw, it was much more competitive in the ring than 11-1, but her card was much better than a loma win or draw.
Re: Round-by-Round: Vasyl Lomachenko vs. Teofimo Lopez - October 17, 2020
I watched it second time and i am just so disapointed by Lomachenko. I understand Lopez physical presence and boxing skill is something to watch out but you just dont give up 6 or 7 rounds like that. Especially when 4 belts are on the line. I was huge Lomachenko fan, especially in his amateur days. But was disapointed by all his 3 last oponents - spending 2 prime years against Pedraza, Crolla and Campbell, just disgusting. And now this. Only way he can convince to be his fan again is defeating Gervonta Davis, or win the rematch with Teo but that fights will not happen IMO. Hopefully i dont sound like a crybaby, i must admit, Lopez is a BEAST

He'd lose to Davis too.

With that performance, no doubt

116-112, Lopez, he was better from 1. to 7. round, and 12., too. Round 10 might be questionable, too.
Honestly, I expected a more entertaining fight.

Had Loma been more active throughout the fight, it would have been different. But the early rounds were disappointing.

He probably would have been flattened.
Re: Round-by-Round: Vasyl Lomachenko vs. Teofimo Lopez - October 17, 2020
Would Lopez catch more active Loma or not is the second question. Being a champion and fighting like a champion is the first one. Whatever could be, Loma suffered from his pragmatism. Just like his countryman Wlad. Lomachenko had no other option, but to sharpen his game.

I hope a rematch happens. It will be interesting to see if Loma can watch the tape and come to the realization that giving the entire first half of the fight away is not a workable strategy. If he fights the same in the 2nd fight, we'll know he's on the downswing. If he can adjust, then maybe he's still got a few years left at the top.
Re: Round-by-Round: Vasyl Lomachenko vs. Teofimo Lopez - October 17, 2020
I'm against the rematch just because there are too much of them recently and they slow the sport down, which is especially bad now, after the lockdown slowed it down.
Give Lopez either Davis-Santa Cruz winner or Haney-Gamboa winner (which means Davis or Haney).
