Robert Smith must resign
Sorry i dont like to call people out like this but on his watch thr UK has become the worst country in the world for judging, the same culprits year after year ruining careers without being held accountable, Terry O'Connor and Ian John Lewis are the worst 2 but Michael Alexander hardly blameless last night, Victor Loughlin has plummeted as a judge when he used to be one of the better ones, Steve Gray another one who likes to home cook, its disgusting and has to stop now, Smith isn't cut out for it and going by his IFL interview today he isn't interested in pulling his pals up on it, intact he blames social media and says the judges have best seat in the house etc, sorry to be harsh but I love this sport and the buck stops with Robert Smith
Sorry I dont know how to post links but everyone needs listen to his ifl interview from today, doesn't seem like Smith has any intention of doing anything productive, quit please your to blame

Re: Robert Smith must resign
In many ways Smith is quite powerless, remember when he tried to stop the Haye v Chisora fight.
At the end of the day it's money that controls the sport.
Smith is a good guy.

Re: Robert Smith must resign
Smith is arrogant in the interview almost laughing it off, and also disrespecting fans saying he does not value their opinions, even the fans with very little knowledge know who won that fight! They are all corrupt, sick and tired of hearing the word well you need to rip the belt off them, or it’s his home show! Get a grip you either win or you don’t.
Re: Robert Smith must resign
Yeah that "ripping the belt away " bollox is tiresome .JamieM wrote: ↑18 Oct 2020, 07:58 Smith is arrogant in the interview almost laughing it off, and also disrespecting fans saying he does not value their opinions, even the fans with very little knowledge know who won that fight! Re: Robert Smith must resign
Someone told me Jeff hinds is suspended and taking legal action against the board. Strange he has never been made up to A star compared to O'connor, The board do need a clear out that's for sure.
Re: Robert Smith must resign
Jeff Hinds falls into line too, my brother fought Craig Evans and won comfortably, dropped him with a body shot and hinds gave him about 2 minutes and said it’s low, funnily enough the footage of that fight has never been found! Corruption in boxing has always been about it’s just becoming more and more prevelant. Something has to give!
Re: Robert Smith must resign
Also it's true that they grabbed Smith first thing in the morning after the fight trying to catch him off guard.
Furthermore Smith is quite correct about the armchair fans who are led by commentary, booze and bias.
Many still feel Bellew was dominating Usyk untill he was caught by that lucky punch!

I don't think anyone doubts theres plenty armchair fans but when the criticism against Tel and IJL is almost universal surely the penny's got to drop, I know Smith is a boxing man but his record with officiating is woeful and he seems to be complicit or at least accepting, how many careers have they ruined??Coco wrote: ↑18 Oct 2020, 08:23 Also it's true that they grabbed Smith first thing in the morning after the fight trying to catch him off guard.

Totally agree mate and I’ve felt this way about Smith for many years.handsofstone wrote: ↑18 Oct 2020, 08:45I don't think anyone doubts theres plenty armchair fans but when the criticism against Tel and IJL is almost universal surely the penny's got to drop, I know Smith is a boxing man but his record with officiating is woeful and he seems to be complicit or at least accepting, how many careers have they ruined??Coco wrote: ↑18 Oct 2020, 08:23 Also it's true that they grabbed Smith first thing in the morning after the fight trying to catch him off guard.

He was touted as the saviour of El Cartel (The Board) and he’s been as bad or worse than anyone: I don’t think I’ve heard him admit anything’s wrong once.

Smith is just as clueless/incompetent as the officials

Re: Robert Smith must resign
I’d be interested to know how many “people with knowledge of the sport” scored it for Ritson? Because none of the Sky broadcast team did, and neither did Eddie. So who is Smith talking about here, other than the bent judges?
Re: Robert Smith must resign
Trial by social media.......
Re: Robert Smith must resign
If a judge is caught bang to rites looking at a mobile phone instead of the action in a fight they are being paid to judge how can there be “nothing controversial about it”? That’s breathtaking arrogance at best from Smith.
It will be interesting to see if trade paper Boxing News dare cover this in their next issue. Harry Mullan would not brush it under the carpet. We used to laugh about ‘needing a knockout to secure a draw’ in Italy or Germany back in the day. We are now reaching such levels of farce in this country and it’s disgusting.

They caught Smith first thing in the morning and at the very end of the interview they asked about the mobile, he said he had been made aware of it, didn't know if it was a phone or not but was going to find out.TheGoods wrote: ↑18 Oct 2020, 10:52 If a judge is caught bang to rites looking at a mobile phone instead of the action in a fight they are being paid to judge how can there be “nothing controversial about it”? From the Twitter pic it certainly isn't 100% what it is.
Re: Robert Smith must resign
I hope it is a phone, so there is no option to get rid of him. He is terrible as judge & really could affect overseas fighters coming over as they are never going to get a fair deal with him judging. I know he isnt alone but he is the worse.
Irrelevant if it was a phone or not, he was clearly not watching the fight at that moment (could argue he didnt watch any of the fight the way he scored it) & should have some sort of investigation as a result of it. He is paid to watch the fight and score it fairly.

The major reason why judges and referees are unacountable is quite simple the A Star referees are all on the referees committee they alone decide which referees and judges are competent etc they also decide which referees are promoted to A Star so basically they vote on themselves to keep themselves in the lucrative overseas work etc also if your face don’t fit you will never become an A star referee irrelevant of your ability and competence simple as that the system I wrong it’s like being in crown court and having your family on the jury

I can see why Smith doesn't get in front of the camera too much. What an incredibly unprofessional way of answering what is 100% a legitimate problem.
Nothing will change though, O'Conner has been a cluster fornicate for years and IJL is has gotten as bad. All under Smith's watch.
Nothing done, just getting worse.

That was a bad interview by Smith, I think when the dust starts to settle he'll wish he'd handled that differently. That is how you're meant to carry on when the camera is not recording, not when it's recording

Smith made a big show when that old yank judge , who hardly ever been to the uk and prob wouldnt be back again anyway, miscored burnett-haskins. said he wouldnt let the guy judge in the uk again, was furious, etc
Yet when his buddies constatnly botch fights day in and day out, even on the phone during the fight, it's no big deal
He's part of the problem , lets it go on with impunity

It's a big accusation to say there is direct bribery.gregregegg wrote: ↑18 Oct 2020, 20:34Better than the alternative of the BBBC conducting an investigation on the BBBC and coming to the conclusion that as long as they get there quota of manila envelopes everything is fine.

Aleaxander and Gray gave Warrington the hometown decision over Galahad.
