Limited by Guarantee doesn't mean that there isn't a profit motive. Just means you have to take the money out through salary as opposed to dividends

You actually don't need the board of control. If you started a new board they wouldn't be affiliated to the BBBoC, the EBU, WBC etc.
Also you would be under no obligation to follow the existing rules, the medical ones being the most important..

I agree mate it’s a racket. Do people of integrity get into the boxing business? That’s what seems to be wrong.Muttley wrote: ↑19 Oct 2020, 09:26You actually don't need the board of control. Re: Terry O'Connor
What's always surprised me is how few top tier (TV) referees there are in the UK. A pool of maybe 8 (off the top of my head!) at any given point? And many of them double up as judges as well.
How come there are so few? Surely that's not a healthy thing in itself.

Re: Terry O'Connor
Thats not quite true. if the right people formed a new board they could apply for membership to the European union, WBA, WBC or whoever. Its a business like any other. if enough promoters and boxers, say Matchroom,Warren , Fury,Frampton, Saunders, etc,of course the governing bodies would accept them. The EBU and WBC can do business with whoever they choose to

Re: Terry O'Connor
Personally, I think they do and it can be done. If I was to start a new board I'd run it pretty much along the same lines as now but bring it more in line today's technology and practices and run it more like UFC type organisation but would also focus more on boxers welfare, before, during and after their careers. There is some really good, honest and integral people in boxing. we all know who they are. You need old school, honest types that have the genuine health and welfare of the boxers at heart. There could also be after career services as well to advise/help on a path after boxing. I really believe this is possible. What do people think? I'd be interested to know

Re: Terry O'Connor
In the 1980's - FW and the IBF tried started a new sanctioning body in the UK and Terry Marsh vs Sylvester Mittie was going to be the first IBF-UK title fight at welterweight but it never took off. I think it would be a lot harder for a new sanctioning body to set itself up in the UK to rival the BBB of C.
Buncey said he was going to write a book about the IBF-UK and those times, that would be a good read if Buncey is still reading the forums.

Re: Terry O'Connor
He has, yes but the Board statement was a very weak one paragraph saying practically nothing, only that Terry will appear before the board. There was no date of when or if he was suspended.Ruthless-RKO wrote: ↑19 Oct 2020, 10:23 He's been called to stand infront of the BBBofC and explain himself.
Re: Terry O'Connor
If I remember correctly, and I could be wrong so please correct me? But as I remember FW was only going to start a new sanctioning body because he was not able get a board of control license at the time or he was granted a licence but the Cartel at the time had frozen other promoters out of staging shows at the popular venues. As I say I could be wrong it was a long time ago and my memory is not as good as it used to beFray Bentos wrote: ↑19 Oct 2020, 10:34 In the 1980's - FW and the IBF tried started a new sanctioning body in the UK and Terry Marsh vs Sylvester Mittie was going to be the first IBF-UK title fight at welterweight but it never took off. Re: Terry O'Connor
He was a BBB of C promoter at the time, he had Terry Marsh, Sammy Reeson (maybe Joe Bugner before he emigrated to Australia) and loads of prospects under his wing (the Collins brothers, Stretch, Sheils etc) he was running loads of shows in the south east of England but he was certainly up against the cartel who had a lot of sway over the BBB of C - maybe he was after taking away ground from the cartel but he ended up being the main player a few years later as the cartel broke up and faded away.Muttley wrote: ↑19 Oct 2020, 10:41If I remember correctly, and I could be wrong so please correct me? I would say the IBF-UK was his plan to break the dominance of the cartel but the BBB of C put a stop to him - he ended up being the main man a few years later anyway.
Re: Terry O'Connor
I think, at 67, they might retire him. This one has gained a lot more publicity because of the picture of him on his phone. And there's still Phil Edwards, IJL and Michael Alexander to routinely shaft away fighters.Ruthless-RKO wrote: ↑19 Oct 2020, 10:23 He's been called to stand infront of the BBBofC and explain himself.
Re: Terry O'Connor
I think your pretty much on the money Mr Bentos. The only thing i'll add is,in my opinion the board may have agreed to a more even playing field with FW in exchange for dropping the IBF UK idea . Re: Terry O'Connor
I actually think it will be the last time we see him officiating a least a 12 round fight in a BBBoC sanctioned bill - I wish people will stop saying it "looks like a mobile phone" - it is a mobile phone!
Still though the worst decision I have ever seen (who was the judge / ref) in a British / domestic 12 rounder was Barnes vs Vincent - and the almighty cover up after stank even worse - at least Eddie has said Vasquez won this one. Warren went from practically begging Barnes' corner to pull him out to saying the decision was just about fair! At least I hope this has stopped the nonesence of Ritson vs Taylor or Ritson vs Prograis - we don't need the kind of mismatches we saw some of our fighters get when thrown in to the lions den - the likes of Jennings vs Cotto, Andrade vs Rose.
There have also been stinking decisions in world title fight on these shores - still cannot for the life of me see how Froch beat Andre Dirrell, but we've had some other stinkers - Woodhall vs Catley, Brodie vs Jorrin. Harrison vs Polo, Nelson vs Jones - too name but a few.

O’Connor shouldn’t feel aggrieved about anything. He should be embarrassed about his scorecard and disappointed that he was caught looking at his scorecard, or something else, mid fight.
What’s Hearn meant to do? Stay quiet? It makes the sport look corrupt.
Re: Terry O'Connor
I think it would be tough to get rid of an existing experienced ref or judge but if he was on his phone it will be an opportunity
Re: Terry O'Connor
While the EBU, WBC etc are perfectly entitled to do business with whoever, they have a long and strong relationship with the BBBoC.Muttley wrote: ↑19 Oct 2020, 10:19Thats not quite true. if the right people formed a new board they could apply for membership to the European union, WBA, WBC or whoever. Yeah, it was his scorecards, phone wouldn't have made sense. Just a crap judge
