Terry O'Connor
Re: Terry O'Connor
My apologies looking at the video it does look not a phone - although the still image that was on the net does look like a phone - it looks like he is texting.

Re: Terry O'Connor
Trial by media? Who else can try him? He’s been allowed to continue for years despite being unable or unwilling to do the job properly. The board clearly aren’t interested, but at least boxing fans are paying attention and trying to highlight his incompetence.
Re: Terry O'Connor
Trial by media in that it is clearly not a mobile phone. This is why proper procedures must be followed, the same for real courts.

Why does he need to look at his scorecard during a round ?

That sir is a bloody good question. I would say you shouldn't do that, otherwise you are leaving yourself open to the allegation of home cooking. Each round has to be judged in isolation and on its merits. Checking your overall scorecard during the fight is consistent with home cooking, its not consistent with scoring what is going on in the ring at that time. For a judge with a reputation for it, that is a bad move.CaptainSpacerod wrote: ↑19 Oct 2020, 17:10 Why does he need to look at his scorecard during a round ?
Re: Terry O'Connor
I've posted on another thread already, but anyway....my understanding is scorecards are collected at the end of each round, so if I'm correct, it can't be a scorecard.
Re: Terry O'Connor
they are given 12 sheets of paper so if it happened in the 8th he would have 5 sheets on him still

Tbh doesn't really make a big difference. Why would he be looking at it anyway--why is it necessary and what purpose does it serve?
Fact is he wasn't watching the fight there, turned in a shit card, and has done so for years without being held accountable. Not sure why you keep posting trial by media in these different threads as if he's been hard done by--he's had it very very easy, allowed to perform absolutely sh!t and still get the biggest fights. If the rest of us perform sh!t we get fired, if Tel does it it's just another 'a star' assignment from bob smith

and lol, as if tel would undergo any trial other than by social media, obviously bob and the bbbc aren't going to hold him to account at all

Do the individual cards have the round number on them? Perhaps he just wanted to double check what round it was?JimJim2009 wrote: ↑19 Oct 2020, 17:49That sir is a bloody good question. It’s not a good look but he glances at it for barely a second. I know you can still miss something in that time but, if it was his scorecard, then it’s no big deal for me. The big issue is still how he managed to give Ritson 9 rounds including rounds where he only landed 3 punches.

Yeah, the argument about what he was holding is irrelevant really. It’s his terrible judging which needs to be focused on.maverick23 wrote: ↑20 Oct 2020, 06:00Do the individual cards have the round number on them? Re: Terry O'Connor
was he maybe watching a better fight on youtube and scored that instead !
Re: Terry O'Connor
If we're placing O'Connor on trial, and f*** me it's long overdue as another poster has said, we can only take him to task on this particular incident, not accumulative ones before it. So, that's the first thing Smith needs to do if he's going to conduct a fair investigation.
If it's not a phone O'Connor is glancing at, he's still out of order for not focusing on watching the fight he's meant to be judging. And if he's looking at his scorecards, what does that imply, I wonder? "I gave the last round to Vasquez, better give the next 2 to Ritson etc".
O'Connor has no justifiable excuse either way, and for the reputation of the sport needs to go. As some others have said, Robert Smith isn't that bad as a figurehead for the BBBofC - it's not an easy role. But he came across as a proper disinterested, dismissive c**t on the IFL interview. If he was that tetchy the morning after, he shouldn't have given it. At the very least, he needs a refresher on how to handle the 'media'.
There's a more polite way to address reactionary bellends on social media, and Smith missed his cue.

Re: Terry O'Connor
Whilst on the subject of Terry O'Connor I often wondered what he was doing at the end of Whyte-Chisora II. He first gets a look at the scores from Michael Buffer and after the first score is read out in Chisora's favour he then starts tapping Whyte's held arm against Whyte's leg. Not starting more conspiracies I just never noticed a referee doing that before. I guess he just can't keep a secret

Re: Terry O'Connor
While we're scrutinising Terry O'Connor's body of work, let's not forget the strange pattern of his stoppages. A sides seem to get a lot more opportunities than B sides. As an example: if Amir Khan knocked down Prescott so heavily that as he stood up he went reeling back into the ropes on unsteady legs, do you think Terry would have given him the chance to continue, like he did Khan?

118-110 Davies over Hughes
118-110 Joseph Parker over Hughie Fury
98-92 Tyson Fury over McDermott
Please feel free to add to the list.
With Stan (John McD Father) knocking out Terry 32 previous to the Fury vs McDermott, im sure Terry was getting his own back.
I hope Stan McDermott gave him a proper hiding back in the day.

Basically just means it doesn’t have any shares or shareholders; you can’t buy into it and the BBBoC wouldn’t be able to pay out any profits to its members, as it’s a registered charity.Shhhh wrote: ↑20 Oct 2020, 15:56Can you explain what this means bro ?Boxerbeetle wrote: ↑18 Oct 2020, 14:45It’s limited by guarantee with no share capital, so not the usual private limited company structureSlim Cockney wrote: ↑18 Oct 2020, 14:37

Re: Terry O'Connor
I think it had been cleared up the "phone" incident.
Looks like his scorecard and maybe a pen (that gives of the shiny reflection) which at the still capture looks like a phone, along with Terry texting thumb to add to the illusion.
But the scorecard is still ridiculous, yet another in a long line for uncle Terry!

Re: Terry O'Connor
It looks like a phone in my opinion. And yes, unless the format has changed in the last few years, scorecards are collected at the end of each round and handed to the governing body supervisor, who then adds up the scores on the main scorecard after each round. Also, there is now way a judge in any form of competition, should have a mobile device on and on show.
Re: Terry O'Connor
Shouldn't be judging a fight at 67 should be a cut off age, this gives the chance for new younger officials to come in, you don't see many if at all young boxing officials, most seem to start in the mid-40s
