Povetkin vs. Luis Ortiz..... who wins?

Post by thunderking500 »

battle of the 40 year olds... :)

both elite fighters that are still very dangerous, this would actually be a great fight to see, maybe Pov's swan song or something, They fought in the amateurs and all their fights were neck in neck.

Who would you favor?

Povetkin beats Ortiz from the first day he first laced his gloves to the day he takes them off

Povetkin will KO Ortiz. They are on about the same level of abilities and power, but Povetkin has much more experience at the higher level, he is more accustomed to tough fights, he gotta have more tools. I see this fight as an intense battle on the mid range with Povetkin getting better of the most of exchanges and catching Ortiz eventually.

I'd say Ortiz. Would be an interesting fight. Fury should get this fight on his undercard, perhaps someone will tune in.

Why is everybody favouring Luis Ortiz to beat Alexander Povetkin? :o

The Cuban's reputation is built on media hype. He hasn't accomplished anything of any note.

Let's compare Ortiz's resume with Povetkin's:

Alexander Povetkin:
• Olympic gold medallist
• World championship gold medallist
• Two-time European champion (amateurs)
• Seven bouts against current/former world champions: Wladimir Klitschko, Anthony Joshua, Imamu Mayfield, Chris Byrd, Ruslan Chagaev, Marco Huck & Hasim Rahman.
• Engaged in seven world championship bouts
• The former regular WBA world champion and the current WBC interim titleholder
• Notable names fought: Wladimir Klitschko, Anthony Joshua, Marco Huck, Dillian Whyte, Ruslan Chagaev, Carlos Takam, Eddie Chambers, Manuel Charr, Mike Perez, Chris Byrd & Hughie Fury
• Currently rated 5th at heavyweight by ESPN and 4th by The RING
• Scored a fifth round stoppage victory over Dillian Whyte two months ago

Luis Ortiz:
• KO’d twice by Deontay Wilder and defeated Bryant Jennings five years ago
• Most recent victory was a decision win over Christian Hammer almost two years ago

I'm not making it up, the above bullet points are these guys career highlights.

I'll ask the same question again, why do most people favour Luis Ortiz to beat Alexander Povetkin?

Jenn was coming off a razor thin fight vs Mike Perez (wouldve been a draw w/o the last round point deduction), who Pov then iced in 90 seconds

Not everybody is favouring Ortiz in this thread, but only a slight majority up to this point. If you read this thread, you'll see it's 3-2 by picks in favor of Ortiz. Are you a lair and ignored this fact on purpose or have you just been mistaken?

they fought in the ams? based on what? did you just make that up

Ort hardly made it to any major international competitions where povetkin fought, because ort could only win cuban nationals once despite being in the ams for years

I’m not sure if Povetkin actually fought Ortiz in the amateurs, but I know for certain the Russian defeated fighters that were better than the Cuban (i.e. Povetkin beat guys that had either defeated Ortiz or had overcome the Cuban’s victors, such as Povetkin beating Mohamed Aly, who had defated Michel Lopez, who himself had beaten Ortiz).

If that makes sense? I'm not sure of a better way to describe it.
