Why is Josh Warrington not scheduled?

Post by Perkin Warbeck »

He apparently wants to fight.

Could he be added to allegedly's Fury-TBA in early December?

Or is he promoted by Matchroom now? They have plenty of events coming up: Chisora-Usyk, Povetkin-Whyte II, and Joshua-Pulev.

Hearn will want him as main event I presume.

Leaving his roster thin..

Gonna have to have at least 5 fights on a card.

Should should have Warrington-Can on the same night as Saunders-Murray. Co-headline.

Probably this, but surely staying active at this time has got to be a consideration .
If this covid thing hangs around as long as some predict some fighters could be losing years of their careers .
Is it any harder getting these shows on at the minute , or is it purely a financial thing that they are not viable ?.

Yes. Promoters and fighters would be wise to have fights for less money right now.

Kid Galahad is his mandatory. Warrington pulled out injured in 2019 but then had to fight him or be stripped. Warrington struggled against him so has no desire to fight him again.
He is perhaps hoping that there is a Chinese fighter who has lost 2 out of 20 who might be handed a belt soon.

He’ll be waiting some time by the looks of it...

No crowd is the new norm, seemingly.

His mandatory is due by the end of February. It's an easy fight to make.
If Warrington was confident of winning you would think it's a good time to get his mandatory out of the way.

My guess is hearn was hoping to use a warrington date with a crowd of some kind. But thats gone for now. Saw a interview with jw dad a week or 2 back and he said they were still hopeful of the unification fight that had been agreed will go ahead.

Regards to his mandatory its due February and how things have panned out im guessing hearn doesn't fancy paying for it after the last fight where the styles didn't gel.

How easy would it be to make a unification without crowds?
If he was confident of beating his mandatory who lives just down the road, why not get it out of the way?

Unification? With who?

If it's the same promoter, it should be easy as long as both want it.. The only thing that came in the way for Loma-Teo was the money splits, but that's only because certain revenue streams were compromised and covid..

Firstly his beaten kid 3 times so he wud b confident of winning and secondly
Its business. Hearn know he can't sell it as ppv after the last fight. He will try get the unification then if josh wins. He moves up to be a 2 weight world champ leaving kid to fight for the vacant title. Keeping the title in house.

I think he probably can. I’d be surprised if Xu is expensive. It will have to be it’s own headline, Sky will have to pay a little more for it (or they use some of the PPV profits to subsidise it) and they probably won’t spend much on the undercard.

I think it will either be December 19th or some point in January as Josh needs to fight and Eddie will want to keep him happy.

I'm guessing warrington wud have to take a drop in money. But thats seems the route their going. Potentially ppv with a decent undercard. Guessing more news will happen next week if Lsc is stripped of wba title like expected and can xu promoted to world champ.

Just because he can doesn't mean he will. Its a fight that will b a hard sell with no crowd that deffo wudnt b ppv. Imo hearn plan is unification for jw then move up leaving kid to a vacant title shot keeps title in house and he is not paying for a fight that makes no business sense to him after the poor quality of the first fight. Also with josh beating kid 3 times his not gunna be overly concerned with the thought of a 4th bout is he.

Probably financially worth Warrington holding out for 12 to 18 months for Covid-19 restrictions on live crowds to lift. The difference between what he'd pull in from a full arena to an empty one is huge. Also, not sure Leeds doing well will benefit him either, ironically.
