Valdez...Carter isnt everything he was written to be and his first round ko over Emile Griffith, impressive as it was, was more of a fluke IMO.

Combine that with the fact that thanks to the fact that there's a movie made about him, Hurricane Carter is WAY overthought of here.

Valdez would've stopped him in one sided fashion I'd imagine. Carter was not at this level.

His big win over Emile Griffith is his only real big thing. The title fight with Giaradello he lost clear in spite of the movies portrayal of it.

I don't see Carter having much of a shot against any highly regarded Middleweight from most eras.

Btw, it was a such disgraceful act to illustrate the fight like that in a movie.

That's movies for ya. They always gotta exaggerate a story because they think the general public isn't entertained enough by the Truth.

Hurricane's story would've been interesting without embellishing what happened in his title fight.

That's basically just 1 of the things that is factually wrong with that movie.

Besides beating Griffith, Carter destroyed Florentino Fernandez and won decisions against George Benton, Holley Mims and Gomeo Brennan. In particular, the Benton fight was a terrific win and a great bout. Rodrigo owned Briscoe, but other than him his list of middleweight wins isn't comparable to Carter's. Still, it's a great fantasy bout and Valdez was a superb fighter who, in my view, might beat Carter for his greatest career win.

Carter was an overrated middle and probably a murderer.
