Williams-v-Skelton II - repeat or revenge?
Hope you liked the completely original hook there.
Any chance for Skelton next weekend? I came accross a BBC article where he was saying he would be attempting to change his "rough and ready" tactics, which, although he believes won him the first fight, he is going to attempt to be "a bit more pure."
To be honest, I can't see Skelton changing the tactics and default style of an (albeit short and successful) career. Neither can he develop new skills in a matter of months And there's no real problems fitness/temprament wise, so he can't really improve there.
The ??? all still reamin with Williams. Whilst this tent nonsense can perhaps be laughed atslightly, if it is indeed burning his lungs etc (presumably whilst he's exercising in there) that can only be doing good for his fitness and stamina. Plus, he came in at his lowest weight for 2 years for his fill-in job in N Ire, despite the fairly short notice and knowledge that his opponent would be no Joe Louis. So whilst we may not exactly see 200lb of riplling muscle and vibrant blood cells, he should be coming in well under 260 if he's done any decent training at all.
One thing I found slightly bizarre in his last fight was the way he'd just stop fighting and let his opponent hit him with the body shots. Not sure what sort of tactics they were (if they were) but I'm sure he wouldn't be contemplating those for the Skelton fight.
All in all, it's surely got to be Williams again, with his prediction of a stoppage in 10ish not entirely improbable.
Any other offers?

If I remember correctly I had Skelton just edging the first fight. It was a good scrap, scrap being the keyword. Probably see a repeat, dirty fight close decision that could go either way. Leaning towards Danny due to his revolutionary fitness training & plus he hurt Skelton in final rounds.
Danny may have his number.

I'm still dissapointed that the rematch is going ahead, it wasn't a great fight (scrappy) last time and neither fighter, now unfortunately, inspire me to tune in. I would have liked to have seen the winner progress to European or a world title fight.
I don't like the Williams vibes, when he does this talking about how well training is going (and its been practically non stop for the last 3 years) it usually means he is out of shape and fat. The scales will reflect alot IMO.
I thought Williams won handily last time, but Skelton can hurt him and so can Williams hurt Skelton. I'm about 70:30 in Williams favour, and I think it will be a carbon copy of the first fight.
Skelton cannot fight another way, Williams doesn't want to (he'd rather eat the pies).

Yes. I don't want you to start thinking that because I started this thread I'm falling off my seat about it.
And whilt, stu, you think it would (on paper) lead to a euro or even word shot (particualrly for Williams again, even after the 1st Skelton fight) quite frankly, I don't see Williams beating Vidoz or Valuev. Granted, despite all the question marks, he's probably the best equipped GB heavy to move up from domestic level, but I just don't see him improving suffieciently to beat either of the two. In all honesty, I'd be hard pushed to give you a winner between Williams and Beck. And whilst I'd say SSS hasn't improved much since their fight, has Williams either?
Even if Warren gets Williams a fight with Valuev, my (albeit laymans) prediction would be a mid-fight stoppage for Valuev, and that would leave Williams back at sqaure one, looking at fights with Gammer and so on. (Assuming we look beyond money which, granted, you cannot discount. Professional boxing is, after all, a job.)

I enjoyed the first fight, although it was'nt one for the purists it was still quite entertaining. Maybe for me Skelton just edged it but at the same time should have had a point or two taken off so a Williams win was about right. I cant really see the rematch been any different a close split decision to Williams but maybe this time Skelton losing a point along the way.
He thinks more people will pay for that fight, then some other ones. At a guess. Or that he thinks Williams fighting anyone good will be a repeat of the Klitschko fight.Max Molyneux wrote:I'm watching it since I like Danny but I wish he'd have smeg it off to fight Vidoz.
Wonder whats with Warren to want a rematch though!

But not everyone will beat him like Vitali did.

No, you are probably right. Could well be financially based though.Max Molyneux wrote:Well he probably is right, people will pay for it!ILikeBeer wrote:He thinks more people will pay for that fight, then some other ones. I reckon Danny will win on points again. Most of all though, the last fight was a pretty poor advert for boxing, Skeltons use of the head should have lost him a couple of points, if not DQ. Rather than a rematch, Danny should have gone for the european title after the first fight. Matt Skelton belongs in unlicensed fights in abandoned car parks or on the door of a dodgy nightclub, not in a proper boxing ring.

It all depends on the Ref.
Terry O'Connor ruined the fight for me. I know Skelton is rough, but they've allowed Skelton to fight in his way for his entire career, then the moment he gets in with Williams they come down on him like a ton of bricks!! Skelton had to fight a completely different fight to usual, and it showed. Let Skelton of the leash, and Danny will quit on his stool.

With Danny Williams you never quite know what you are going to get and I wouldnt be at all surprised if Skelton wins the rematch.
I guess its going to follow a similar pattern to the first fight with another absorbing encounter followed by a tight decision.
Expect to hear lots of bullshit about how both fighters have trained beyond belief and are in superb shape (even if our own eyes tell us a different story)
Wouldnt it be a surprise for Skelton to win and set up a rubber match...just what we want

Well, despite the majority being seriously underwhelmed I'm really looking forward to the fight. It's always great to have a live fight on ITV with 2 seemingly evenly matched opponents.
I thought Skelton edged the first but it was close enough that I don't feel it was a bad decision as such. I kept expecting Danny to wilt under the barrage but he stood up and made it count in the final round.
I do feel a bit sorry for them in that I don't think neither will get a title shot on the back of this fight. I hope they do though.

If Danny got himself down to 250 he has the chin, power and skills to be doing so much better than fighting, with respect, a one-dimensional brawler. It's a shame he seems to have compensated for the lack of mental strength which plagued him earlier in his career by packing on the pounds and making himself into a punching bag who can only fight for 30 seconds a round.
If he comes in better shape I can see Danny stopping Skelton late on this time, if after everytime he punches he leans against the ropes and takes punishment again I can see Skelton stopping him.
If it goes to the scorecards, Danny will win whatever happened during the fight, for obvious reasons.

250. Danny won't come in at anything like 250. 274 more like. I don't know why people keep making this point. It doesn't matter what Danny can do if he comes in in shape. He'll have been stuffing cakes again, and the only shape he'll come in as will be round.

You have a point there. What with Danny being touted as getting a shot at *sigh* the heavyweight title, there is no way they'll let him lose on points.
