Jimmy Paul versus Cubanito Perez

Post by goose 5 »

Did anyone here see this fight ? I'd like to read some memories about it.

Seem to remember his fights with Paul and Camacho were good scraps and I thought he’d eventually win one of the alphabet belts but the Taylor fight made it clear he wouldn’t

The Perez 15-rounder took a lot out of Paul.

I saw it too..it was part of a long but good night of boxing that also had Bernardo Pinango W15 Gaby Canizales and Buster Drayton W15 Carlos Santos. All world title fights in June 1986, one of the most loaded months in boxing history. (I can only think of December of 1982, May 1983, November 1983 and March 1984 being loaded with as many good, quality fights) 45 rounds in one night, can you imagine?

The fight was on the table until the 15th when Paul took it and won, maybe by 144-141 but 143-142 was about spot on. It was a war.
