What fighter had hardest luck?

Post by rimmjobb »

Has to be Mike Tyson.

Youngest HW Champ ever who beat HOFers Holmes and Spinks, then...

1. Cus died
2. Kevin Rooney quits to train Vinny Pazienza
3. Teddy Atlas pulls out gun
4. Robin Givens
5. Don King pretends to be friend
6. Buster Douglas long count. Like 15 seconds. Douglas really knocked out.
7. Bullshit prison charge
8. Holyfield massive steroids
9. Holyfield headbutts
10. Broke has to fight Lewis when old

Mike was impressive with all these problems.

which bullshit prison charge? When he raped the girl, or when he kicked the OAP in the balls? He was a div and it was all his own doing.

Don King got Tyson wrong lawyer. Even in documentary about Tyson. Mark Breland saw Tyson and girl talking dirty together.

Even Sylvester Stallone refers to it with character George Washington Duke (Don King) in Rocky V. :TU:

Mike Tyson was Iron fisted warrior from US ghetto. Punched harder than KIMBO SLICE.

They took advantage of his lack of education. Otherwise this granite chinned street fighter would be best AT.

I know it’s a troll but
1) Cus died before he was champ
2) Tyson got rid of Rooney, most trainer train more than one fighter.
3) Atlas thing happened when he was about 15 or so and made a proposal to a 12 yo girl
4) She was a pudendum by all accounts but that’s still his own choice to be with her.
5) Don King pretends to be everyone’s friend
6) Count of 10 not 10 seconds. Buster could’ve gotten up at 4 or 5. The case was thrown out of court. That should tell you a lot about it’s validity.
7) Only 2 people know the truth. I tend to side with Tyson because the woman had falsely accused at least one person before.
8) Probably, though I Tyson could have been on the same.
9) Tyson has never been a clean fighter either
10) Could’ve handled his money better, could’ve fought Lewis in 96 instead of paying him millions to step aside, could’ve fought Lewis after Holyfield if he won or if wasn’t suspended etc for a couple of years.

Jesse Burnett

-Robbed against John Conteh
-Robbed against Leon Spinks
-Robbed against Bash Ali (rookie judge mixed the two fighters up and they let the decision stand)
-Receives title shot as a substitute on 48 hours notice and has to fly to Europe (24 hours in transit) where he is jetlagged and succumbs in the 9th round (although still manages to drop his opponent early in the fight).

Povetkin had some really bad luck. Two failed drug cases, where later he was justified in both, but still lost an opportunity of a shot against Wilder and some time. He would KO Wilder.

Jim Braddock sure wasn’t doing too well after the Loughran fight and that bad run continued right up to the Corn Griffin match. He was legitimately concerned that his family would freeze to death at one point. Conversely, from Griffin and afterward, he had incredibly good luck.

Tyson had a horrible early life, as did legions of other boxers. I wasn’t a fan of the man, but I’m genuinely glad he seems to have found peace and happiness in this stage of his life. Most of what was mentioned here, however, was a result of his own poor choices, not hard luck. There is one thing that I will say was particularly awful for him and it was not career related: the death of his young daughter.

Yeah, Tyson had it much tougher than someone like Sam Langford.

Tyson lived in a mansion in the countryside from the age of 13; by 1988 he'd been guided to 35-0 with all the belts and a team that shrewdly invested his millions so that he was set up to retire in his 20s and live off his earnings for the rest of his life.

Not the first man who springs to mind when I think of hard luck fighters.

Tyson has been quoted as saying that no, he did'nt rape Desiree Washington, but deserved to go to prison for a lot of other things that he got away with. That's a pretty candid admission

Luis Firpo.Knocks Dempsey through the ropes and then the scribes sitting at ringside push him back into the ring.Dempsey should have been DQ'd or had the chance to beat the count. Firpo should have been the heavyweight champ of the world that night.

John Henry Lewis. At 25 lost enough of his eyesight to have to retire. A wonderful fighter and top 20 LHW of all-time.

Herol Graham - Always managed to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory in his world title fights, especially his last challenge at 38 when he was beating Charles Brewer handily until once again falling short.

Too add to this, he also missed out on fighting the UK MW and SMW legends of the late 80s and early 90s.

They were all busy fighting each other, but Graham never managed to get in on the act.

Wasn't he a trainer? Didn't know he fought. Sad thing to be done at 19.

He beat montgomery and I think Ike. Lost a title rematch with Bob and got a detached retina.
