Unrelated, but one of the boxers who beat Johnny Famechon was also a famous teen idol singer in New Zealand after he quit boxing due to a detached retina., Dion Murphy...
Not that I know it is the case here but I have lost count of the number of times a pro record has been romanced. The saddest are when the person has died and their son / daughter emails to ask if we can help research their career.
I ended up sharing a skiing holiday with a guy who said his dad was a boxer who has never been knocked out and had over 50 fights. Naturally I was intrigued and googled him. He has a ton of stoppage losses but they all seemed to be tko or cuts losses. So I suppose he wasn’t wrong.
I used to have a client and we would talk boxing all the time . He grew up in London and lived there through the 1930s to 1970s. Well he used to tell me that he used to work with a boxer but I would never have heard of him. He always remarked that this boxer had huge hands. That seemed to be the distinguishing feature of this man.
Turned out it was Larry Gains. Heard some good stories about him, none I have recollection of now. . . Except the huge hands.
