Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez vs. Callum Smith - December 19, 2020
Re: Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez vs. Callum Smith - December 19, 2020
Like someone else already said, Smith has solid chances to beat Canelo. If he uses the jab properly, and keeps the distance from the mexican, he could win.

Callum Smith: Canelo's Best Days Are at 160, At 168 I Beat Anybody!
"I thought that couldn't be me when I saw it because I hadn't agreed anything then. They made us an offer a few hours after he put that out but I wasn't happy with it. Thankfully we agreed to the fight in the end but even after I was still checking his Twitter to make sure it was me," Smith told Daily Mail.
If Smith wins, some will view the outcome as a massive upset. Others view the unbeaten Brit as a very live dog.
Smith believes Canelo's best weight is 160-pounds - which he aims to prove next month.
"It depends on how you rate me. If you think I'm good you won't be surprised. If you don rate me you'll probably put this one up there. Canelo's best days are at middle. At 168-pounds I beat anybody. I'm the best in the world at this weight," Smith said.

if there should be any special 'canelo rehydration clause' involved smith can right away hand over his belt pre fight and stretch out for the count as the bell rings.
a fully hydrated, motivated & relentlessly aggressive smith is long, strong, versatile and fast enough to win the fight quite clearly but he has to stop canelo as he just won't get the decision.
I'm sure Smith is already well aware that this is a simple pre-arranged money and belt transfer.
If there is to be a re-hydration clause then I hope Smith has requested a larger fee for his services from the notoriously avaricious Canelo camp.
Smith might be willing to play the part of a hooker for Canelo, but there's no need to be two-penny one.
Even Billy Joe had a little more dignity than that.

Red - Should be November 2019?Ruthless-RKO wrote: ↑19 Nov 2020, 07:44 Canelo Expects Great Fight With Smith, Aims To Work With All Promoters
Mexican superstar Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez recently ended his relationship with his promoter for more than a decade, Golden Boy Promotions.
Earlier this week he announced his ring return for 2020, when he faces WBC super middleweight champion Callum Smith on December 19th, likely in Texas. DAZN, who recently parted ways with Canelo after a lawsuit settlement, will stream the event.
Now, as a free agent, he hopes to secure the biggest fights possible - regardless of who promotes them.
According to Canelo, beyond the economics, what he wanted more than anything was to stay current and continue fighting in 2020.
Canelo has been out of the ring since November 2020, when he knocked out Sergey Kovalev for the WBO light heavyweight strap.
"For me the money is the least of it, obviously I always want to have my family doing well and I get in there to give my life for something, to have a better life, but the truth is that I love boxing and for me money means less, but I think I'm going to do much better as a free agent," Canelo told TV Azteza.
"I am going to be able to make the best fights and now I am going to decide each thing in my business matters and I think I will do much better, I trust God and I have always said that what is done well cannot go wrong and we are going to do better... in the end what I want is to be able to work with all the promoters and to be able to make the best fights for the public."
Canelo is expecting a tough encounter with Smith, who holds a big edge in height and reach.
"He is a fighter who comes forward looking for a fight, who does not give you a chance to breathe, to get your rhythm going. He is a fighter who has many qualities, a lot of power too, but we are ready for this and for more. I think at these levels we have to fit in with everything with the experience we have and it will be a great fight. I'm ready for this and these kinds of challenges are the ones I like in boxing to keep going and make history," said Canelo.
I am happy to see when fighters become stars they drop promoters and fight who they want.
Looking for Bud Crawford to do the same soon.

Some of the criticism was warranted imo but he’s on a hot roll which is great for his legacy, the fans and boxing.margaret thatcher wrote: ↑26 Nov 2020, 05:38 it is, credit to canelo, ppl act like he's a sissy be-otch but look at who he's fought
I think this is a great match up, two weight drainers in their athletic primes.

Hahahah, funny but true... Let's hope to find honest judges this time.

How much Smith weigh in fight night? Was his weight released in some fight he had ?
Re: Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez vs. Callum Smith - December 19, 2020
I can imagine Canelo will be around 180 at fight night, while Smith around 185

Has Cal ever had his chin tested? By some one his size even?
Re: Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez vs. Callum Smith - December 19, 2020
He took solid shots from Ryder. But Canelo is bigger puncher. I am surprised everybody talking about Canelo wearing Smith down. Smith can take constant punishment pretty well imo, he is pretty tough. If Canelo stops him, it would be one punch which catch Smith. Still think Canelo outboxes Smith by something like 118-110 to 116-112Ruthless-RKO wrote: ↑27 Nov 2020, 04:54 Has Cal ever had his chin tested? By some one his size even?
Re: Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez vs. Callum Smith - December 19, 2020
I’m not predicting a stoppage either but I don’t know Smith too well. He looked very uncomfortable against a smaller, compact and strong fighter like Ryder who was putting the pressure on whereas he was content to box with Groves and looked good. Canelo is versatile and he can box and also pressure fight plus he’s hard to hit, I see him outscoring Smith comfortably. Smith though does have a strong punch, a dirty left hook also. He’s also got some intelligence so I imagine he’ll have his moments. But for me it goes back to, Canelo is hard to hit and hurt.Cent0089 wrote: ↑27 Nov 2020, 05:05He took solid shots from Ryder. Julio Cesar Martinez defends WBC flyweight title against Francisco Rodriguez on Canelo-Smith card
Francisco Rodriguez will challenge WBC flyweight titleholder Julio Cesar Martinez in an all-Mexico battle on December 19, promoter Oswaldo Kuchle told The Ring late Monday night.
The 12-round bout will take place at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas and will precede the main event bout between Canelo Alvarez and Ring Magazine champion Callum Smith.
Both fights will be streamed live on DAZN.
Rodriguez (33-4-1, 24 knockouts), who resides in Monterrey, Mexico, has not fought since November 30 of last year, stopping Jose Maria Cardenas in round 6.
Since losing back-to-back fights to then-WBO junior flyweight titleholder Donnie Nietes and countryman Moises Fuentes in 2015, Rodriguez has mostly campaigned at 115 pounds. He has displayed more aggression and power in winning his last 14 bouts, including 11 by knockout.
Despite currently being ranked No. 7 by The Ring at junior bantamweight, Kuchle believes Rodriguez can not only make 112 pounds but can pull off the upset win over Martinez.
“It’s a great fight, which we just finalized,” said Kuchle, who runs Promotions del Pueblo. “We are very confident in (Rodriguez to win).”
The 27-year-old Rodriguez became the WBO strawweight titleholder in March 2014 by stopping Merlito Sabillo of the Philippines. Less than five months later, in a unification fight, Rodriguez defeated Japan’s Katsunari Takayama by unanimous decision to add the IBF world title at 105 pounds.
Martinez (17-1 1 NC, 13 KOs) was scheduled to defend his WBC title against McWilliams Arroyo of Puerto Rico on August 15 in Tulsa, Oklahoma, but had to withdraw from the fight, reportedly due to a throat infection.
In his last bout on October 23, Martinez, who is ranked No. 3 by The Ring, stopped late-sub Moises Calleros in round 2 in his hometown of Mexico City.
The 25-year-old Martinez is trained by Eddy Reynoso, who also trains Alvarez, heavyweight prospect Frank Sanchez, WBC junior featherweight titleholder Luis Nery, and unbeaten lightweight Ryan Garcia.

To be fair, Callum Smith is The RING champion and also the WBA titleholder.Post 4 Post wrote: ↑02 Dec 2020, 19:31 I'm already hoping that Canelo's next fight after Smith will be more exciting than this one.
He won the WBSS and is considered the top dog at 168lbs by ESPN, TBRB and BoxRec.
And the forum were clamouring for Canelo to face Smith, immediately prior to the Brit’s subpar performance against John Ryder.
Realistically-speaking, there aren’t that many alternative opponents for Canelo to face that would be considered bigger names that pose a greater threat than Smith does.
If the Callum Smith doesn’t excite you, then you’re a difficult man to please.
And if that’s the case, I’m guessing you hold all fighters accountable to the same standard you apply to Canelo?
I assume you must really hate Gennady Golovkin’s next outing against Kamil Szeremeta?

It’ll be like the Rocky Fielding fight, but it’ll take longer for the Mexican to force the stoppage.
Callum may initially do a Kovalev, by winning some of the early rounds, due to being the busier fighter, but Canelo will own the narrative of the fight, and there’ll be a sense of inevitability about the outcome, as the Brit begins to fade from round five onwards.
