Gennadiy Golovkin and DAZN restructuring deal
Gennadiy Golovkin and DAZN restructuring deal
Gennadiy Golovkin and DAZN are restructuring their deal before GGG faces Kamil Szeremeta next month on December 18th. Mike Coppinger is reporting the news of IBF middleweight champion Golovkin (40-1-1, 35 KOs) and DAZN restructuring his six-fight, $100 million deal with the company.
GGG is finally returning to the ring after a long period of negotiations with DAZN. It’s been 13 months since Golovkin last fought in October 2019 in defeating Sergiy Derevyanchenko by a controversial decision in New York in a fight shown on DAZN.
When you’re Golovkin’s age, you don’t like to miss out on a year of your career, but it looks like he had no choice due to the negotiations with DAZN and the pandemic.
GGG needs to upgrade his opposition
Golovkin, 38, will be taking a pay cut. He’s currently getting $15 million per fight, which is a lot of money for him to be fighting guys like Steve Rolls, Szeremeta, and Derevyanchenko. Those are not marquee names, and it’s unclear whether DAZN had big expectations of Golovkin facing more popular fighters.
Golovkin destroyed the 35-year-old Rolls in 2019 shortly after signing with DAZN. It’s anyone’s guess why DAZN agreed to let Golovkin face Rolls rather than insisting on him fighting a better opponent that would bring in new subscribers.

Re: Gennadiy Golovkin and DAZN restructuring deal
Golovkin will be at least 39 years of age by the time he faces his next opponent, after he’s engaged in the Szeremeta mismatch (an extraordinarily feather-fisted unaccomplished fighter ).
And who else within the DAZN stable can he face at middleweight?
Jaime Munguia and Demetrius Andrade. That’s about it.
This means that DAZN would have to pay a premium to motivate middleweight fighters from rival promoters to cross the proverbial street, assuming GGG has no intention to prove his previous boasts about being capable of beating the very best 168lb-ers on the planet.
Personally-speaking, GGG might have already reached the point where he’s ready for the taking.
And if he wants to keep winning (to protect his chances of the Canelo rematch), he’ll have to keep facing opponents with the same sort of calibre of Rolls and Szeremeta.
And let’s face it, they aren’t good enough to justify $15m paydays.

Tbh I'm happy that Golovkin succeed to earn big money considering how risky and low reward type of fighter he was in his peak years. Even if G will take 10 M's / fight it's a very good payday
I want to see Golovkin fighting guys like Munguia, Murata and Eubank Jr.

Let's face it if we 're talking about low opposition then also Canelo fought Khan, Liam Smith , JCJr and Rocky Fielding.

You’ve listed guys that are not only better and more accomplished than Rolls and Szeremeta, but they were also commercially bigger names.apollo creed wrote: ↑21 Nov 2020, 10:02 Let's face it if we 're talking about low opposition then also Canelo fought Khan, Liam Smith , JCJr and Rocky Fielding.![]()
Let’s face it, you already knew this, but you’re agenda is to attempt justify GGG’s recently dire opposition by dishonesty pretending they’re on a par with those fighters Canelo faced.
They’re superior fighters than Rolls and Szeremeta, so stop lying!

They are low opposition too and also washed up. I just said that they were low opposition for a p4p fighter like Canelo, which is true.

it's beyond ridiculous after chasing canelo for 24 rounds around the ring, getting as the reigning champion a draw (118-110!) and his first loss out of it, ggg should still pursuit a 'rematch' with the mexican 'face of boxing'.

Are you claiming GGG deserves to receive $30m to face Rolls and Szeremeta? And then $15m per bout against any other fighters that are of a similar calibre to those two guys?
And if you feel that Canelo is automatically obliged to face Golovkin for a third time, does this mean that you also believe that GGG must fight Jacobs and Derevyanchenko again?
I’m assuming you’re a man of integrity that refuses to show favouritism, because you consistently apply the same moral rules and standards to judge all individuals that have experienced similar circumstances.

Son, I didn't say that Rolls and Szermeta are good opposition. lol I just said that Canelo fought poor opposition too and people didn't complain too much but when it's about GGG then people complain. Let's be fair.Enlightened-One wrote: ↑21 Nov 2020, 11:46Why mention them in this thread?apollo creed wrote: ↑21 Nov 2020, 11:42 They are low opposition too and also washed up. If you feel that former world champions like Chavez Jr., Fielding, Smith and Khan were “poor”, then does this mean you consider Rolls and Szeremeta as fückïng appalling?
There’s no way in hell do you honestly feel that Rolls and Szeremeta are on a par with Chavez Jr., Fielding, Smith and Khan!
GGG’s considered a pound-for-pound fighter too and should he be paid $30m to fight Rolls and Szeremeta?

Also is much more 'beyond ridiculous' to vacate your 155lbs 'mw title' b/c you had to fight a less older Golovkin. loladislav123 wrote: ↑21 Nov 2020, 11:53 it's beyond ridiculous after chasing canelo for 24 rounds around the ring, getting as the reigning champion a draw (118-110!) and his first loss out of it, ggg should still pursuit a 'rematch' with the mexican 'face of boxing'.
And also is as much as 'beyond ridiculous' that Cotto was allowed to bybass his No. 1 mandatory challenger in Golovkin in 2015.

I don't understand why an armchair warrior like eo is criticizing Golovkin so much?!lol I mean Golovkin took the very hard road for a foreign fighter.
Maybe eo is so damn bored of his life and he just wants some virtual attention by starting an ol' GGG forum debate ? lol

You resort to insults whenever your dishonesty is exposed.
I asked a simple question that you should be able to answer, but then you realised that providing an honest reply would only serve to undermine GGG, hence your frustration!
You essentially claimed that GGG deserves to receive $30m to face Rolls and Szeremeta!
And you also dishonestly pretended that Rolls and Szeremeta were on a par (ability-wise, accomplishment and commercial worth) with the likes of Chavez Jr., Fielding, Smith and Khan!
If you believed otherwise, then you wouldn’t have persistently dodged answering the same question on multiple occasions!
Your agenda is to attempt justify GGG’s recently dire opposition by dishonesty pretending they’re on a par with those fighters Canelo faced.

Great points, but let's admit it, if we were in Miguel Cotto's shoes back then wouldn't we have been tempted to do the same?
It's more or less considered boxing strategy nowadays.
Golovkin's road to the top has been one of the most impressive in recent boxing history.
The only doubt that could remain is the 'what if?' if he'd met Dimitry Pirog as was planned way back in August 2012.
GGGs record for taking on tough fights is second to none in modern times. He's definitely up there with both Joshua and Whyte.
Evidently there is no pleasing some of his detractors, but that's not his or our problem.

Tbh it's about of us boxing fans being screwed of very intriguing matches b/c of boxing's business side. Of course that Cotto did the best thing for him and took that big payday fight vs Canelo and with or without that strap, Canelo vs Cotto fight it still would've been a huge match, and 'suleiman' threw his 'straps' into that fight to get some fee$ but in a ideal world of respecting the rules Cotto should've been fighting GGG or be stripped.Thomastearns wrote: ↑21 Nov 2020, 14:57apollo creed wrote: ↑21 Nov 2020, 12:41Also is much more 'beyond ridiculous' to vacate your 155lbs 'mw title' b/c you had to fight a less older Golovkin. loladislav123 wrote: ↑21 Nov 2020, 11:53 it's beyond ridiculous after chasing canelo for 24 rounds around the ring, getting as the reigning champion a draw (118-110!) and his first loss out of it, ggg should still pursuit a 'rematch' with the mexican 'face of boxing'.![]()

As for Golovkin vs Pirog fight , indeed it was a sad thing that Pirog got badly injured and that fight didn't happen. Btw both Pirog and GGG fought Ishida , one after another and Pirog only UD Ishida. Golovkin KO'ed Ishida in three rounds. Styles make fights but a KO in only three rounds it has to mean something.
