Well what do you expect it’s the Tory party. I still laugh at working class mates and colleagues who put Boris and Jacob rees on a pedestal.
I agree with there and I don't normally talk politics but what did we gave in the election. No way could I have voted for Corbin
The 'bailouts' look to be more like loans than anything else.
Looks as though the government are aiming them at sports that they know will be able to pay them back.
Athletics and amateur boxing already barely get by and although they get lottery funding, these seem to be limited only to the very top guys/girls.
Although club Rugby hemorrhages money, international rugby is a different story.
Sold out events at Twickenham, Murrayfield and the Principality several times a year plus TV rights for the 6 nations helps the coffers a lot.
Horse racing attracts huge crowds of punters and makes a fortune from gamblers. Also seems to have a lot of wealthy, influential backers behind the scenes.
Hearn talking nonsense as usual. The fund consists of 85% of loans at generous rates and payback terms. It’s purpose is to provide finance to large businesses to tide them through this period, stay in business and employing people and then have them pay it back at a later date.
I doubt many amateur boxing clubs or grass root sports clubs will be looking to burden themselves with a large loan to pay back further down the line when it’s easier for them to simply mothball or just tick over.
If they were needing low level finance then that is what the bounce back loans and grants are for as part of the furlough package.

As awful as Corbyn was he can’t have been worse than the idiots we have in charge. Working class people voting Tory is like turkeys voting for Xmas.

Completely. Sheep who believe the sh1te peddled by the tory press and the rubbish they read on Facebook. The whole 'Boris' act certainly fooled a lot of complete bellends, that's for sure. Fancy believing that the Eton Elite would look after the man ( and woman ) in the street. Laughable.

Has any political party ever looked after the man in the street ?
Hate to get political on a boxing forum but the last general election was basically the brexit folk believing Boris was the saviour to get UK out of the EU and restore the British Empire . Deluded to the max.... People in Liverpool and North East voted blue in massive numbers... it was really unbelievable. I had an extremely poor view of Boris before the election and he somehow has managed to be even worse than I expected. Absolutely zero integrity or accountability by him or the majority of his MPs.
His arrogance believing CV19 wasn’t an issue.
allowing his MPs to keep their job despite unlawful actions,
pushing illegal agendas regarding the EU exit, giving his brother and his mates a lifelong seat in the House or Lords,
giving huge government contracts to companies with either a) no trading history or b) links to him or other Tory MPs
Not to mention his behaviour before he became PM ... the Brexit lies that mislead the population, the disgusting stuff he wrote in The Spectator.
Having said all that there was no way I could vote for Corbyn either :)

Corbyn giving them their election handed it to them on a plate. If COVID hit 2 months earlier maybe Brexit would have been affected too.
The Hearns own a stud farm, Mascalls Stud. They actually bred the winner of the 2018 St Leger. For Junior to use Racing in his propaganda is a bit rich IMO.
I hate the tories and one thing I hate more than the tories are this current government. Saying that - it isn't their job to bail out professional boxing - professional boxing is what it is - a business that will survive COVID-19 - that has been going in one form or another since the late Middle Ages.
I would be more annoyed if Sunak designed a bail out package for professional boxing - do you think the boxing community cares when you pay your hard earned for a sub-standard PPV? Professional boxing is so corrupt and rotten to the core, the last thing it needs is taxpayers money to 'stay afloat' how many boxers are able to live on their ring earnings anyway? If that was the case I could see a case for professional boxing needing bail out money from the government but that isn't the case.
Professional boxing will make a hearty comeback from this pandemic. It will be fine whatever happens, why wouldn't it be?

Seen a petition flying around to get the government to reconsider over looking boxing, but did boxing even make a request? Who exactly within boxing would make it?
BBBofC? Amateur Boxing England? The Amateur Boxing Alliance? BIBA? Where would the money go? What would the loans be backed against?
Seems like a petition filed for the right reason without deeper thought put into it.

I was wondering that myself. Can’t help thinking boxing’s weird structure might have discouraged the government from prioritising it. The constant claims of corruption directed at officials probably doesn’t help much either
Anthony Joshua has stepped in with a “substantial financial backing” to help amateur boxing federations across England, Scotland and Wales just days after defending his heavyweight world title belts.
Boxing clubs across the country have been struggling to stay afloat as a result of the impact of Covid-19.
And Joshua, who began his career at Finchley ABC as a teenager, said he felt the need to step in, backing clubs through money handed out to the English, Scottish and Welsh Amateur Boxing Federations.
Joshua said: “Boxing helped shape me both physically and mentally. It is no secret that, without boxing and the family created around my amateur gym, my life could have been very different.
“The sport has given me a lot of and I want to help highlight the issues affecting grassroots clubs and do what I can to keep the lights on for those most in need.
“I would like to thank the Federations of England, Wales and Scotland for their support in helping facilitate how the financial aid reaches the most affected clubs in their regions and also agreeing to make sure the moey goes directly to clubs.
“I am not using this as an opportunity to criticise Government for its lack of funding towards boxing – these are unprecedented times – however I would like to use my platform to respectfully ask them to rethink their stance. Without support, we will lost community hubs and potentially the stars of tomorrow.”
Joshua has also stepped in to financially contribute to his Finchley ABC with new training kit.
Let the cynics speculate as to his motives all they like, the fact Is his donation will help keep clubs open that would otherwise close and that’s what matters here.

As has no doubt been said before, boxing doesn’t generate huge tax revenues or employ thousands of people unlike other sports.
There is, however, a lot to say for the benefits it brings to society.
