Eddie Hearn
What do you think of Eddie Hearn?
Do you think he is good for boxing?
Personally I think he had been fantastic for the sport, when I feel it needed it most.
When thinking about how brilliant he has done, I then contradict myself by stating I absolutely hate the hold and monopoly he has on the sport. Other promoters do not get a look in.
Feel free to debate.

Re: Eddie Hearn
From a fan point of view he's put some decent fights on.from a pro boxer point of view I wouldn't know as I'm not a boxer. Do they get paid on time? Do they get what was offered?

Re: Eddie Hearn
I’ll begrudgingly give him credit. He’s taken what he’s got and ran with it. I think he’s getting worse recently. Knocking back Loma and Crawford while putting on Rachel Ball and Babic and trying to convince everyone there the fights the public wants is crazy!
He’s also stitching Sky up with Smith and Campbell. Sky could turn their back on him and ruin it for everyone.
Saturday is for me, Wilder-Fury apart, the best night of the year. Nothing to do with Eddie!
I also laugh when reading his press releases or watching his videos, that he’s thinking of doing this or that with the Fury-AJ fight! Has he forgotten about Arum, MTK, Wazza! As if he’s in charge!

Re: Eddie Hearn
If he put in the same effort in promoting his fighters as he does himself he’d be the worlds best ever!
He’s put on some great events over the years, but now they are on the slide and just rinsing people with these ppv cards, padded with woman’s boxing (cheap to put on) and then then non title main events and they want £20 for it! do me a favour!

And in what world does Whyte call the shots with Wilder?
I’m aware Eddie thinks he could have got up at 8 in his last fight but that’s going too far.

Re: Eddie Hearn
There has always been a monopoly on British boxing regards who owns the capital and who can pick the top amateurs to join their stable - back in the day it was Harry Solomons and Harry Levene, then 'The Cartel' and then we had FW promotions - it seems Hearn puts on decent fights but obviously he is taking the piss out of it with his PPV shows that aren't really but apart from that - he makes fights the fans want. There were plenty of dire shows under FW and The Cartel - horrid shows with very uneven match ups which I don't think happens these days.
Bennie will remember the 'Tijuana Tumblers' and of course Chuck Gardner vs Bruno, Bright Spider vs Mo Hussein - Eddie has never done anything along those lines ever - he stacks up well in comparison to who has gone before him.
Apart from that, there was always the likes of Jack Trickett in Manchester, Ron Gray in the black country/Birmingham, Gilmour and Morrison up in Scotland, Gus Robinson in the North East, despite The Cartel - there was always a strong boxing tradition in the regions with Barney Eastwood coming out of the fore in Northern Ireland in the mid-1980's to early 1990's but apart from Eastwood, no-one else really challenged the cartel - I don't know of any regional promoters challenging Hearn.

Re: Eddie Hearn
He is a great seller of his product and refreshed the British scene quite a bit. Should sometimes shut up and just be a promoter. I do not think he holds that much of a monopoly, uncle Frank is still alive and kicking after all.
Re: Eddie Hearn
Since his link up with DAZN his domestic Sky bills have been pathetic. His "world champions" have been taken to the sacrificial altar in the USA.
Saturday's FW main event is a must see. Despite the platitudes from the schills (Company Nelson, B3llend, Oliver, Bent-legs Kugan, etc. etc.), Swiss Tony is not delivering.

Yeah the last few years have been awful, properly dreadful. Get the sense Hearn is just cashing out with Sky as much as he can.BigDoofus wrote: ↑24 Nov 2020, 06:28 Since his link up with DAZN his domestic Sky bills have been pathetic. There’s loads of regional guys of about the same level as the guys you’ve mentioned. And if we’re going Northern Ireland, Cyclone had a go.Fray Bentos wrote: ↑24 Nov 2020, 06:20 There has always been a monopoly on British boxing regards who owns the capital and who can pick the top amateurs to join their stable - back in the day it was Harry Solomons and Harry Levene, then 'The Cartel' and then we had FW promotions - it seems Hearn puts on decent fights but obviously he is taking the piss out of it with his PPV shows that aren't really but apart from that - he makes fights the fans want. Re: Eddie Hearn
Truly outstanding businessman and promoter. As I said in another topic, I believe him to be the best boxing promoter there has ever been in the UK (although modern comms channels have helped him significantly). HOWEVER, I think he is awful for the sport of boxing.

True, TV has always been a factor since the advent of TV - The Cartel had the BBC to themselves (though, again, Barney Eastwood broke through with McGuigan and Bomber Graham) and though ITV were a lot more accommodating, it was mostly FW though we did have 'Fight Night' and 'Seconds Out' some excellent shows throughout the country, I have no idea why ITV or Channel 5 don't revive that kind of regional boxing format - like you said in your other post, there are still plenty of top-notch regional promoters doing small hall shows who would jump at the chance at profiling their fighters on those kind of shows.mickey1975 wrote: ↑24 Nov 2020, 06:29It’s impossible without Sky or BT. Re: Eddie Hearn
DAZN will shake BT and Sky up big style. If MTK could get their fighters on DAZN en masse, I reckon both Sky and BT could be forced out of boxing.
Re: Eddie Hearn
You cant blame Eddie, if we were in his shoes you would want to dominate. The bigger picture is the problem, too many belts and bodies. 1 belt and 1 body, solves all the issuesSpud wrote: ↑24 Nov 2020, 06:00 What do you think of Eddie Hearn?

Re: Eddie Hearn
You are not the 1st that I have seen with that viewpoint.
Since the emergence of DAZN, I have always felt there would be a conflict of interest between Eddie, Sky and DAZN.
Would Sky turn to another promoter when DAZN makes a success in Europe and Eddie can no longer jump between the 2.

Bennie will know more, but I’m sure Duff was at least co-promotor for Bazzas title fights.
Re: Eddie Hearn
If DAZN can keep securing funding from large investment portfolios for another year or two and maintain a price point South of £5 per month (all inclusive, not additional ppv charges) I don't think Sky or BT will even try to keep pace. They'll just chin it off until DAZN sink when investors realise ROI isn't coming (unless it does come).Spud wrote: ↑24 Nov 2020, 07:12You are not the 1st that I have seen with that viewpoint.
