Good to see a topic can get re ignited and discussed after 7 years ha. I was actually watching that documentary on sykes.. Think he was a bum bandit btw. Made look for discussion forums on here on him. Came across this thread. Interesting comments. Then I saw someone mention Graham Brett like he deserved a book written about him lol. Coincidence I thought I knew the guy so joined the discussion. General consensus I think these types are all the same and someone rightfully said previously.. Frustrated closet homosexuals who never had the balls to come out.. Liked getting landed back in jail time after time so they can get themselves some fresh easy meat behind closed doors. I have seen the documentary about Sykes several years ago. I am a bit shocked more than anything. Never met anybody like him in Liverpool, Manchester or London.

The Krays weren't too sharp anyway. All of the old lot who are still alive or just recently passed have been putting the boot into them for years now, saying they were both mad, and pissed all the time, thick and crap businessmen. They would just find out when another villain had put some work in and then go and frighten the hell out of them for some money. They were completely homicidal and lived in a fantasy world where they wanted to kill everybody and the gang around them (a "scruffy little firm" according to Albert Reading, who was Reggie's minder: one of the main ones to grass them up in the end- he said because the twins expecting him to take the wrap for one of the murders for them) apparently pretended to do the things that Ronnie ordered and hope he'd forget about them. There's a story in Roy Shaw's book where Ronnie visits him in Broadmoor and asks if there's anything that needs to be done, and Shaw tells him that his wife has been seeing some poor bloke who works in a market and Reggie has him shot. Then years later I read another book (I think Reading's one) where they say Ronnie orders them to shoot this bloke from the market for "his mate in Broadmoor" and they decide between them that its out of order seeing as the poor woman deserves her own life and so they just lie and tell Ronnie that they did it and eventually he just forgets about it.

Boro's Graham O'Malley was a hard man in the ring (never floored, never stopped) but he seemed to be well liked by everyone. His death in 2018 from the awful Motor Neurone Disease sparked a lot of genuine sorrow. He even made the front page of the local newspaper.

Anybody who thinks a similar fate wouldn't have awaited Sykes when dealing with nutters like them is just too caught up in the North-South thing. Everybody is mortal and the Krays were both about 5'8", thick, mad and gay and they wouldn't bother fighting people. They'd just murder them or get somebody else to do it for them.

I never met Duffy, I’ve asked about him a few times. A traveler , and hard man in his own right, when I asked if Duffy was as good as they say replied “no, better “
