Press Release

The elite facility in Spain will be run by former boxer turned trainer Ricky Pow, with his tremendous expertise in boxing leading to him becoming a WBC representative.

The gym has already proven extremely popular in the past, with the likes of Ricky Burns, John Ryder, Kevin Mitchell, and Cecilia Braekhus having previously had training camps at the gym, and Pow is excited to now see it go from strength to strength as MTK Costa Blanca.

Pow said: “I am very pleased to be teaming up and working together alongside MTK Global. They are making big moves in the boxing world and I feel with my experiences and knowledge of boxing in Spain and the UK that this partnership will be great for both parties.

“We have a fully functional boxing gym equipped for all levels including, beginners, amateurs & professional boxing. We have former amateur and professional kickboxer Hristo Ivanov running kids and adults amateur boxing & kickboxing classes.

“I deal with all the professional aspect of the club as well as being on hand to help with the amateur boxers as well, and we also have the option for people to do one on one training sessions and also non contact sessions for people who want boxing as their fitness training.

“We have great determination and work ethic in our area and have produced great fighters in the province of Alicante including Kiko Martinez and other national prospects like Eusebio Arias and Juanfe Gomez.

“We have good strong and dedicated amateurs coming through and having a partnership with MTK Global can bring great opportunities and recognition for boxing in this area and hopefully move it to the next level.”

MTK Global Commercial Director Jack Johnstone added: “This is another fantastic announcement for the future of Spanish boxing.

“Alicante and the surrounding areas have produced a number of great fighters over recent years and we look forward to building this with Ricky and his team.

“The perfect training conditions, beaches and mountains make MTK Costa Blanca a great destination for European training camps.”

The launch of MTK Costa Balanca means MTK Global has now expanded to an incredible 25 locations worldwide, following the unveiling of MTK Marseille, MTK Worcestershire, MTK Fuerteventura, MTK Alberta, MTK Leeds, MTK Miami, MTK Lake District, MTK Munich, MTK Denmark (based in Aarhus) and MTK Costa Brava earlier this year.

They join strongholds in Osaka, Japan; Marbella and Tenerife, Spain; London, Manchester, Liverpool, Newcastle, Scotland, United Kingdom; Johannesburg, South Africa; Santa Catarina, Brazil; Sydney, Australia; Almaty, Kazakhstan; Tucson, Arizona, USA and Dubai, UAE.

What does an announcement like this actually mean ? Do they just take a gym and rebrand it an MTK gym and that's basically it ? I don't want to find a horses head in my bed over it but am just curious.

I know we’re in lockdown, but I still haven’t heard of MTK Leeds. I’d be interested to know where they are.

Just done it. Josh’s dad has a gym in Batley, Jack Bateson trains at his dads home gym, Burmantofts or Golden Tiger.

That'll be Dicky Jasewicks old gym, used to go weight training there 30 years ago, heard Josh trains there now. So the MTK thing seems to be basically rebranding a gym, suppose it is like a franchise operation, with a new sign over the door.

I didn’t find that out through google. My pal spars Josh there a lot and Batley isn’t big so I’d imagine you’re right.
