Tony Yoka-Christian Hammer Set, November 27 in Nantes, France

Tony Yoka will enjoy a quick ring return and possibly with a stateside tour immediately to follow.

The 2016 Olympic Gold medalist and current rising heavyweight prospect from Paris will enjoy his second fight since the pandemic. Yoka will step up in class as he faces Germany’s Christian Hammer atop a November 27 show, which will air live on Canal+ from H Arena in Nantes, France.

“My next fight is on November 27,” Yoka confirmed on Wednesday. “Despite the confinement, the ‘Conquete’ (conquest) doesn’t stop!”

The event will give Yoka a two-month turnaround, a needed rate of activity given his last ring appearance. The unbeaten 28-year old needed just 121 seconds to tear through countryman and former title challenger Johann Duhaupas, scoring two knockdowns in registering the quickest win of his three-plus year pro career.

Prior to September’s clash, Yoka (8-0, 7KOs) had not fought in exactly 52 weeks, scoring a pair of wins in 2019 following a year-long suspension for having missed mandatory random drug tests.

A stiffer test is expected from Hammer (25-6, 15KOs), who fights for the first time since a 1st round knockout win last December in Wolgast, Germany. The 33-year old German-Romanian heavyweight was once targeted to face England’s Dave Allen this past October, only to have to withdraw due to testing positive for COVID-19.

With a win in November, the next step for the undefeated heavyweight is to conquer the United States.

Yoka—whom bested current unbeaten heavyweight contenders Filip Hrgoviç and Joe Joyce in the medal rounds to capture the Gold in the 2016 Rio Olympics—has been approved for an O-1A travel visa, granted to individuals with an extraordinary ability in the sciences, education, business, or athletics. The visa is valid for three years, which grants plenty of time for Yoka to make his first career appearance outside of his native France.

Me too. That fight had more sense, it supposed to be more or less competetive. Yoka gotta deal with Hammer without problems.

Decent fight and name for Yoka still.

He needs to get a move on. God knows what happened to the Duhaupus fight.

Has Yoka fought better names than Hrgovic?

Definitely Dycho.

I'd say, Hrgovic is better than Dychko.

Damn, Dychko hasn't fought over a year.

Good test for Yoka, Hammer been stopped a few times but also went the distance with Povetkin and Ortiz recently, think Yoka can make a decent statement by stopping him

A lot of PED usage in that post

Press Release | Tony Yoka vs. Christian Hammer Clash Lands on ESPN+

Tony Yoka, the dynamic heavyweight punching Parisian, aims to impress in his ESPN platform debut. Yoka, who won a super heavyweight gold medal for France at the 2016 Rio Olympics, will fight veteran Christian Hammer in a 10-rounder Friday at H Arena in Nantes, France.

Yoka-Hammer will stream live and exclusively this Friday, Nov. 27 in the United States on ESPN+ beginning at 2:55 p.m. ET/11:55 a.m. PT. The ESPN+ stream will also include the return of unbeaten 2016 French Olympic gold medalist Estelle Yoka-Mossely against Pasa Malagic in an eight-round lightweight bout. Yoka and Yoka-Mossely, who have been married since 2018, welcomed their second child in May.

Earlier this year, Yoka inked a promotional agreement with Top Rank, which will co-promote him with Ringstar France.

“Tony Yoka’s potential is limitless, and he is a grounded young man who is motivated to be a great professional fighter,” said Top Rank chairman Bob Arum. “France has never had a world heavyweight champion, and I believe Tony is the one to bring the sport’s biggest honor home.”

The 28-year-old Yoka’s stellar amateur run included a berth at the 2012 London Olympics and gold medals at the 2015 World Championships and 2010 Youth Olympic Games. Before his triumph in Rio, he’d already defeated the likes of former heavyweight world champion Joseph Parker and current undefeated prospects Joe Joyce and Ivan Dychko. At the Rio Olympics, he defeated Croatian standout Filip Hrgovi? in the semifinals and edged Joyce in the gold medal match.

As a professional, Yoka (8-0, 7 KOs) made his debut in June 2017 with a second-round stoppage over the previously undefeated Travis Clark. Apart from a decision win over Jonathan Rice in his second outing, Yoka has stopped every foe, including durable Englishman David “White Rhino” Allen and former European champion Alexander Dimitrenko. He made his 2020 debut Sept. 25 and stopped former world title challenger Johann Duhaupas in one round.

Hammer (25-6, 15 KOs) has fought many of the leading heavyweight names during his 12-year career, falling short against Tyson Fury, Luis Ortiz and Alexander Povetkin. He’s notched myriad upset victories, including a highlight-reel knockout over David Price and a 2016 split decision over Erkan Teper for the WBO European belt. In March 2019, he went the 10-round distance against Ortiz and has not been stopped since Fury forced him to retire on his stool after eight rounds in their February 2015 clash.

“It was a tough fight versus a difficult opponent but we grow [from the experience],” Yoka stated on Saturday. “Unfortunately, I will not be able to fight in December because I fractured my hand."

“We will take time off to take care of this,” vowed Yoka, who is co-promoted by Top Rank and Ringstar-France, with the former angling for a stateside tour for the 6’7” heavyweight sometime in 2021.

it's kinda something ive seen in him since the amateurs and wsb too, a bit like he's got a touch of sawftness about him, albeit he did improve quite a bit over the course of his am days. he has got some good talent but defo not sold on him beyond being a good euro level fighter yet
