agree with you gil, you have to break a mans will , granted not many want to kill someone, but what he said was tame ,hurt or be hurtgilgamesh wrote: ↑28 Nov 2020, 21:48Why would you be upset? I wouldn't want to cause a brain injury to a guy or nothing life altering like that, but if I break a bone in his face I'll be honest. I'd be proud of that. It's the hurt business. If you don't like hurting people at least to some degree you probably oughta do something else.

Dubois did not break his orbital bone.,, where is that coming from?

Re: Round-by-Round: Joe Joyce vs. Daniel Dubois - 28 November 2020
In defence of Dubois quitting, anything unfamiliar is scarier. I think he went down to assess the damage but obviously isn't a medical expert, and with fears of potential blindness and righthands he couldn't see he just thought better of carrying on. Had a surgeon been able to tell him he'd heal fine I think he'd have fought on.
Boxers are used to a variety of painful shots, and it's largely through familiarity that they're mentally capable of dealing with them (usually). It's like how motocross riders take a lot of broken bones in their stride, when if most of us broke anything in our legs we'd be like ‘I might never walk again!’. But after the second or third time you can pretty much mark out your recovery on a calendar.
Nobody trains to endure eye and brain injuries, and remember Jim Watt's regret over McClellan.

Fair play to Joyce he boxed well. Dubois will come again, with more head movement and more variety in his shots he still a good prospect. What the fornicate were the judges watching

I had no idea Dubois had made such a revolting comment about Joyce's blind mother.
I wonder how Dubois' eyesight is today.

Watched the fight this morning, really pleased for Joyce, it was a strange ending, I think Dubois was feeling the pace of the fight, suddenly couldn't see out of his eye, and the jab hurt. He basically panicked, went down and thought he couldn't carry on, when you look at the damage some other boxers have walked through to win/lose a fight, it might be a hard sell to get people back supporting Dubois.
For Joyce I hope he does get a title shot off of this, some talk of Usyk for the WBO title

I don't know if Dub is capable of independently communicating on his own, he is part robot, that comment was prob downloaded into him by someone

Yeah Tony Tucker has the exact same injury against Bruce Seldon and his attitude is business as usual. There's never a moment he wants to stop and is distraught when the doctor waves it offf.Old bones Ian wrote: ↑29 Nov 2020, 04:07 Watched the fight this morning, really pleased for Joyce, it was a strange ending, I think Dubois was feeling the pace of the fight, suddenly couldn't see out of his eye, and the jab hurt. I was watching the thing last night thinking how refreshing it was to see two likeable gentlemen boxing and then I read Dubois' comments. Maybe DDD was told to say it, dunno, but it's dreadful.margaret thatcher wrote: ↑29 Nov 2020, 04:12 I don't know if Dub is capable of independently communicating on his own, he is part robot, that comment was prob downloaded into him by someone

maybe if his face had looked like this it would be easier to let it slide....leb showed some serious heart in that one..it was uncomfortable to watch even while he was winning..and guillermo jones showed some damn iron chin, took some hellacious shots from den.

ya, i mean it was a pretty stupid thing to say, but i just never sense any true malice or dickishness in dub, he is too simple for that, i think he's just been pressured into making 'beef' for the fightTuan_Jim wrote: ↑29 Nov 2020, 04:32I was watching the thing last night thinking how refreshing it was to see two likeable gentlemen boxing and then I read Dubois' comments. Re: Round-by-Round: Joe Joyce vs. Daniel Dubois - 28 November 2020
i don't write dub off at all, joyce is a tough tough opponent for a 23 year old who is likely still improving. a huge guy with loads of am experience and wsb experience and a pretty good pro career so far. and it was a close fight. the reality is that it doesn't really even take that much to be operating around the top 15-20 and in range of a shot these days, you can lose and still get near there not much longer after
dub can come again, he's got some nice toolls and his physicality will be a handlefull for most, though that said some serious work obviously needed for the better levels (worrisome how the jab couldnt be stopped) and he did get gone when it got tough...so rightfully you gotta be more suspicious
there's just sorta a 'well it's not fair boxing is this tough' look to dub's mindset....he was deep into a tough fight where he'd taken plenty, it was hardly a cowardly weakling no hearter, but things are gonna get tough in pro boxing and you gotta push yourself through

it was john latham who had dub up wide, 88-83, it wasn't 8 points so not as bad as first reported though still quite generous to dd. victor laughlin had it 87-84 jj and mark lyson 86-85 dub

Re: Round-by-Round: Joe Joyce vs. Daniel Dubois - 28 November 2020
People can talk all they want about Dubois coming back from this due to his age etc. The reality could be very different. The aura around him has gone, the bubble burst. How he deals with this internally is the key here. Mentally he just took a sustained pasting from a guy who did not fear his power, a guy who could take his power all night.
That is gonna eat away at Dubois. Add to the the whole "quitting" aspect. That eye was bad and no doubt extremely painfull, but taking the knee and waiting out about that he could have clearly risen from is gonna haunt him and raise questions of his heart, his fighting spirit.
Joyce`s chin looked almost superhuman, but the question has to be asked about the power of Dubois. Clearly he has power, but perhaps not what we thought and the power clearly waned as the rounds went on. It`s fine knocking over tomato cans, but when a guy takes your power and keeps smashing you up, we saw the results.
This will be a very hard defeat to take and I think we could have seen the end of him. A bit like Brook after GGG. Brook was never the same guy after that beating, his belief had gone.
Dubois needed another couple of years and maybe a dozen more learning fights against increasingly competent opposition. He was rushed into this and got found out.
His corner were poor. They seemed well out of their depth and they just added to the panic and literally gave zero instruction, just some pound shop psychology that had th eopposite effect of what they were looking for.

Re: Round-by-Round: Joe Joyce vs. Daniel Dubois - 28 November 2020
Rewatched the fight. Joyce was boxing, Dubois was throwing occasional power punches. And Dubois was hitting the target! Just nothing worked. Those were the punches to KO Gorman and the other guys. Joyce chin is freakish. Joyce was taking Dubois' punches well and kept boxing. Joyce bossed Dubois.
I didn't expect Dubois to be that one-dimensional, but more I didn't expect such a chin of Joe.
Dubois still can improve, while Joyce must fight a top 10 guy now.

Dan’s face was reddening and marking up even in the first round I recall..
Should his corner have stopped it with the eye a round earlier?
Why didn’t Ian John Lewis have the doctor in to check ?

I don't think Dubois trained for that version of Joyce, they weren't expecting that amount of jabs, Joyce just kept the jabs coming and unsettling Dubois with it, add in the strength of Joyce in the clinches he was the stronger man.
There was no plan b after the first 2-3 rounds you could see what Joyce's plan was, but Dubois corner couldn't adjust to beat the jab.
