Boxers in accidents

Post by AntonioMartin »

I was just thinking...which boxers got involved in transportation accidents? Be it car, truck, train, plane, bike, bicycle, boats you know whichever type and also whether they died or survived...

Off the top of my head:
Salvador Sanchez..T
Willie Pep
Giselle Salandy..T
Miguel Cotto
James Shuler...T
Ricardo Arredondo...T
Jack Johnson...T
Lupe Pintor
Errol Spence Jr
Carlos Monzon...T
Gilberto Roman..T
Roberto Duran
Masao Ohba...T
Arnold Taylor...T
Rocky Marciano...T
Marcel Cerdan...T
Jorge Locomotora Castro
Max Rivera...T
Carlos Teo Cruz...T

Those with a T next to them died due to the accident..

Who else can you remember?

The Davey Moore tragedy is one of the worst involving a car. His car was parked outside his house on a slope and began running down the slope. Moore ran in front of the car, slipped down on to his backside and the car then ran him over. It cut poor Davey in half.

Ken Norton was severely injured in an auto accident in 1986 or so.

A couple of years before Salvador Sanchez fought Danny Lopez, he was scheduled to fight for the Mexican bantamweight title. Unfortunately, the champion, whose name I don't recall, was killed in an auto accident a few weeks before the fight and Sanchez didn't get that shot. I find it a little creepy considering what happened to Sanchez.

Andre "Thee" Prophet, a promising Philly light heavyweight went same way as Shuler (motorbike crash) in late-80's.

Do I remember right that Orzubek Nazarov badly injured in a car crash? Lost part of his eyesight etc.

Giovanni Parisi perished in car accident I believe.

Pernell Whitaker & Graciano Rocchigiani died as pedestrians run over by a car. (well, so did Victor Galindez albeit in more peculiar circumstances).

Magne Havna drowned in a boating accident.

What is your source for 'It cut poor Davey in half'?
The autopsy showed that he died from asphyxiation due to a compressed chest.
