Would you change your mind if Dubois' didn't actually fracture anything?

Post by Controversial »

So the word is Dubois' orbital bone is fractured and he has nerve damage to his eye, of course we have to assume that is true and wish him all the best on recovering. However Hearn has alluded to the fact that no proof of this injury has been shown. So that got me thinking, what if it transpired that DDD never actually fractured anything and he just had a swollen eye. Would your opinion on the whole "did he quit or not" change?

Nope, wouldn't change anything, DDD didn't feel right or had had enough after ten tough rounds. He didn't bail straight away when the going got tough, he tried and failed. This happens...a lot.

Maybe some will recognise how effective and damaging Joyce's punches are now. The wins over Bryant and Ustinov demonstrated Joyce was already closing in on the big boys.

That doesn't mean it wasn't broken to be fair, there's a difference to having someone press on you and a 18.7 stone bloke punching you.

So you think he quit regardless whether he was injured or not? Maybe more of a question for those who didn't think he quit because he had a serious injury, would they still think he was right to quit if it transpires he just had a badly swollen eye.

Yes. But I had no issue with his action and support it. I was one of the 45 in the poll who picked a Joyce win by stoppage and was pleased Joe won, but the reaction to the ending has come as a huge disappointment.

A fight with the British, Commonwealth and European titles on the line is still a big deal and should be celebrated with all that's still great in boxing. This is the right side of boxing IMO.

I was wondering why endswell gets applied to these blown up eyes with potential orbital fractures. I've never had that kind of swelling but surely if there is a fracture on orbital bone, pressing a steel object into it as hard as possible is only making it worse. Same thing was going on in the Kell Brook fights where his eye got damaged.

It wasn’t a “bad” quit and he didn’t make a meal of it, I’ve seen worse put it that way, anyone remember Chavez bailing out against Randall in the rematch? He took advantage of the 4 rounds completed rule because of a not very bad cut he had, I’d put that in a worse bracket than Dubois

Course not ,, I think the trainers should of caled the doctor DD was out on his own , supposed to be a team in there alls DD knew was he could'nt see , and thats scary , he did'nt have the doc telling him its just swollen , your safe to carry on , he did'nt know , his team let him down .

Said it before i damaged my orbital bone , and it was'nt really painful at all , but nerve damage to the eye probably would of been ,, but pain is'nt the issue here , DD is in the pain buisness , he could probably tolerate the physical pain , its the thinking am i blind , will i be blind , not knowing just how bad it was , BECAUSE his corner did'nt help him .. me i would off called him off two rnds earlier ... DD done the right thing , and all these wankers calling him a quitter , sre doing it because ,

1....... By pulling him down and saying they would'nt do it , there just trying to boost themselves up in the eyes of others ,, OR

2 ...... There just wankers

Bit cruel of Bricktop and Dubois not to fax the medical report straight to matchroom HQ, what are they playing at?

If he had a broken/fractured bone he musnt be getting the hard spars, wouldnt he be used to getting smacked about if he had decent sparring partners? I cant remember one right hand landing on DDD it was all jabs. Anyone remember bruno's eye against lennox lewis? Now that was from rights hands jabs lefts and right hands, remember tysons eye against buster douglas? Now lets get this straight i dont want anyone to die in the ring or get seriously injured but if you give it out for 15 fights then you gotta be able to take it in 1 fight,it cant all be one way traffic,if it was that easy we would all be doing it. DDD quit,he was smacking Joyce around in the early rounds and Joyce took it with no sign of quit.

Whether he had a broken bone or whatever. He knows his own body. If he was exhausted, and knew he couldn't go on, he made the right decision not to continue.

Do you think if he was getting hit regularly with big gloves and a head guard on in the gym, his orbital bones would become stronger and less likely to break when hit with little gloves and no head guard in a fight?

Course not, bones cant be strenghtened like that. We all have different thickness and slightly different shapes of bones. Its what makes us individual. Maybe DDD is unfortunately blessed with a thin orbital structure.

As for Hearn not having seen any evidence? What fekkin business is it of EH's?

DDD never quit because he was losing and didnt like it (Bellew, Duran etc)

DDD took a knee because he had sustained an injury from which it was difficult and more importantly dangerous to carry on. Brook took the same knee v Spence.

so DDD hasn't sent evidence of his medical status to a man who isn't his promoter

well if that doesn't smack of him faking it, I don't know what does

PS it's nice of Camp Eddie to remind me what a complete, snidey little KUnt he is. I said something vaguely complementary about him a week ago, that was his ration the foppish mockney prick

My take on all of this is Dubois got beaten fair and square after a hard fought ten rounds.

Over the years I have wrongly got myself involved in slagging off a fighters performance in the ring, so I am certainly not going to slag off Dubois, except to say he got beaten without a hint of controversy.

I have met Daniel, he was very kind to me over my illness, and he took the time to talk to me and my wife when we visited the Peacock .... what clearly came across to me in our conversation was how much he wanted to progress ... so knowing his desire and determination to succeed having failed against Joyce he must be gutted.

I am not going to kick whilst he is down.

It's about the most cuntish thing I think I've ever heard him say. Generally I don't dislike Hearn as much as others but that really showed him up as the tosser he is, didn't it? I expect with the all the crowd-less shows this year Hearn has forgotten that he gets booed every time he gets on the mic. Classless from a bloke who couldn't punch his way out of a wet paper bag.

Exactly. What everybody seems to be forgetting is that this is not only a human being, but seemingly a very nice one too.

I don’t think so either, just wondering what Gman meant with the hard sparring comment

His face would used to getting hit is my point,he doesnt even look like he has ever been hit clean till Saturday. Sparring gets the nerves in your face used to getting hit.

Maybe you should give his team a quick email, suggest they try a few rounds sparring in preparation for their next fight?

As radical an idea as it is, though, don't think you can guarantee a grateful audience, prophets and innovators are seldom recognised or appreciated in their own time, and I imagine the current training team would be a little red-faced, that they didn't think of the sparring idea themselves.
