Roy Jones vs Joe Calzaghe
Roy Jones vs Joe Calzaghe
If the Jones/Calzaghe fight took place in 1998 instead of 2008, who wins?
I think Jones wins, he was on another level from anyone else from the early 90’s to 2002ish.

This is the one where Joe's "O" would probably go.
Jones had more of the vital stuff that made Joe excellent and especially at that time.

Would have been close I feel , calzaghe didn’t have hand problems then and his speed would have still caused Jones nightmares but then jones was p4p no.1 back then. Think joe would have hit the canvas in this one as well

Calzaghe would have pushed him, but Jones would have won. Might have been a a pretty good fight.

Re: Roy Jones vs Joe Calzaghe
I have a suspicion Joe would have beat him. At the least, very close. Roy didn't like southpaws, cal close in speed and much more active.
Re: Roy Jones vs Joe Calzaghe
If it were the best version of Joe against the best version of Roy you may well be right. If it's just both of them as they were in 1998 I don't know if Joe is ready for that yet.Onetimeonly wrote: ↑01 Dec 2020, 20:40 I have a suspicion Joe would have beat him. At the least, very close. Might never be, but it's definitely not the 100/0 fight that comes out every time it's brought up.gilgamesh wrote: ↑01 Dec 2020, 21:36If it were the best version of Joe against the best version of Roy you may well be right. Re: Roy Jones vs Joe Calzaghe
I would think Jones, he was special. Though again his strength of competition doesn't stand out. I understand OTO's point about Calzaghe at his best. his high work rate and southpaw stance could give Jones fits. Jones prefers to fight at a slower pace he achieves it by using his speed and power to counter guys but JC could potentially use angles and work rate to throw that off.
