George groves
Anybody know the reason why groves retired. He looks big and I think he is only 32

Re: George groves
he wasnt old for age, but he was at a point as a fighter where the call made sense. had injuries and a number of tough fights. accomplished a good amount.
Re: George groves
always had the impression groves over did it in training also....he looked absolutely knackered in fight week vs smith. I picked smith based on how groves looked in fight week

Re: George groves
It felt like Groves had been a pro for ages.. had some tough fights too
Re: George groves
Groves took and won tough fights routinely that lesser boxers would expect world title shots for beating.

Must’ve been increasingly difficult for him to make 168, stayed there his whole career and he was always described as a naturally big super mid

His heart wasn't in it after the eubank injury and surgery on it. I think he'd achieved financial security, won big fights and had no more motivation left. The Groves of earlier in his career would never have shook his head and stayed down from a body shot like he did vs Smith.

People forget groves peaked very young and was in a lot of battles early. Fought unbeaten guys when 10-0 maybe? Going life and death. Likes of AJ never did... was very battle worn. Very good and exciting fighter

I remember seeing Groves at the Smith weigh in and he looked badly weight drained. I liked Groves but he was right to retire.
Re: George groves
He had alot of wars and tough fights pretty much from the start of his career. I remember his 1st Commonwealth defence was against unbeaten Commonwealth gold medalist Kenny Anderson. What a fight that was. Groves had to show his mettle and get up off thr floor to stop Anderson.

Ya, AJ had much easier times with the unbeaten guys he faced early ondanconnollyeire wrote: ↑04 Dec 2020, 19:27 People forget groves peaked very young and was in a lot of battles early. Yes and I don't think I've seen a fighter with so many shiners when going through press conferences etc - even at an early age. Seemed to have lots of hard sparring which didn't do his longeivty any good.rio wrote: ↑04 Dec 2020, 20:16 He had alot of wars and tough fights pretty much from the start of his career. Nice to see his ring earnings have earned him a trip to advance hair studio.

Good to see George in the Sky studios tonight. Spoke well and seems happy with life.

Doesn`t look too bad to be honest. There wasn`t much to work with either. he suffered the bald curse that befalls many a ginger.
If you google him and bring up the photos you will see it.
Loads of people have them nowadays. Hearn has had at least one.

I bet when they were teens in Dale youth they never thought they'd be researching hair transplants on Google in their late 20s

What a mystery it is that all these modern boxers are getting premature male pattern baldnessTheLeprechaun wrote: ↑06 Dec 2020, 03:07ShadrachSimmo wrote: ↑05 Dec 2020, 09:09It’s not too bad. Spencer Oliver has one, never shut up about it on the podcast with Max. Think he must have been sponsored by them. They’re getting even worse now about grooming products.
